Professor Yasmim and Max are truly a remarkable Jiu-Jitsu instructor and mentor! I can’t say enough how important to have a mentor who can motivate you to improve your skills everyday on the mat. Professor Yasmim and Max are the sole reason we make the trip all the way from North Dallas to Plano—and they’re worth every mile! They have a rare gift for making each class both educational and enjoyable. Their ability to break down techniques into manageable steps ensures that everyone, regardless of skill level, feels confident and empowered.
I also appreciate how the class emphasizes important values like respect, teamwork, and perseverance, which extend far beyond the mat. The progress my both kids has made in both their skills and character is remarkable. I am glad to see how my five years old girl who never wanted to step on the mat now enjoy chasing gold medals..We feel incredibly fortunate to train under both the Professors. The journey to Plano is nothing compared to the value they bring to our lives!!
Professor Max has been teaching my son JJ for the past 6 years, and wherever he goes, we follow behind. We were very happy to find out he and his wife, Professor Yasmin, were opening their own brand new gym this fall. It was such a great moment seeing so many parents and kids come together the weekend prior to the opening, helping with the last preparations before the grand opening. If you are looking for an authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu experience (from a Brazilian here) for your child or yourself, this is your place. There are at least 4 Jiu Jitsu gyms closer to our home, but we drive the extra miles for the excellence, expertise, love, care, camaraderie, and social environment. Coach Max is a role model to my son, and my son has developed a sense of belonging there that is priceless in my view.

Northern Tribe Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an amazing academy with very technical and dedicated Professors. Professor Mimi and Max are amazing, they are very passionate about teaching and sharing their knowledge of Jiu Jitsu. They provide some of the most technical and detailed instruction that makes it easy for everyone to learn.

Northern Tribe is an awesome new gym! Prof Max and Mimi are both amazing teachers and super nice—everyone here really loves them. The place is always clean and has everything you need, making it easy and comfortable to train. Definitely recommend checking it out if you’re into BJJ!
I can’t say enough about Professor Max and Professor Mimi at Northern Tribe! We’ve been members at 3 other gyms in the Northern DFW area and tried out another 3 gyms, this is by far the best. We drive 50 minutes from Aubrey to Plano 4-5 times a week because we know that Northern Tribe training is worth it for our two boys. Being good at Jiu-jitsu doesn’t make you good at coaching kids in Jiu-Jitsu, but Professor Max and Professor Mimi have a true gift.
Professors Max and Mimi are two of the most patient and hard-working people, I’ve ever met. This is not just a job, but their life. And they pour this love of jiu jitsu into their students. They go over every technical move and help you to fine tune your technique. They have reignited my passion for jiu jitsu and I look forward to my journey with them. My daughter has been a student with them for over two years and loves them dearly. They really are like a second family. The community they have created at their gym, is one of support and friendship. And that’s due to their leadership and commitment. I’m so thankful to have this gym, community, and these two professors in our lives.
A BJJ gym is only as good as the professors and Northern Tribe has the best that we have experienced in the 6 years that our 12 yr old has trained and competed. If you are looking for a gym as a beginner or an experienced competitor, there is no better place than Northern Tribe!

Northern Tribe is the gym to go for everyone from casual practitioners to passionate athletes. The professors are elite, patient, and detail oriented. We love the environment and support the professors provide and would highly recommend it to anyone but especially those looking to up their competitive game.

Amazing professors with the highest level of experience and dedication to the kids! You will not find a better gym for your children. For the competition kids, they offer BJJ Pro kids classes 5 nights a week for 90 minutes.
