Northpark Jiu Jitsu is a fantastic gym. My son went there for several years and we would’ve continued, but we had to move. We appreciate all of the coaches and the great program that they ran. My son learned so much and we highly recommend this gym.
Awesome place to train. Great instructors! Plenty of mat space with plenty of training partners.
Been here for 6 years and still going. Never a dull moment and best staff to coach from kids to adults. Come through and try a class. You won’t regret it
I started with North Park Jiu-Jitsu back in 2018 and highly recommend this academy to all levels of experience. The moment you walk in, you’ll immediately feel the academy’s friendly, close-knit, and family-oriented atmosphere. Over the years, they’ve taught me various techniques and concepts of the martial-art, for which I’m forever grateful for and still use to this day. The knowledge and wisdom I’ve gained from these exceptional instructors are truly unmatched.
Took a Realtor self-defense class tonight with Prof. Mike and Coach Tio! They were both highly skilled and professional. I feel more prepared and confident to go out and take on all my open houses! I highly recommend North Park JiuJitsu to anyone interested in the art or self defense.
I attended a great self defense class hosted by Prof Mike and Coach Tio! I can’t believe how many useful techniques I learned in only one session. I can only imagine how much more empowered I’ll feel with continued training!
I attended my first class ever! I went in with the mindset that I would hate it but to my surprise, it was great! Mike taught the class and was very patient with me. I learned quite a bit for the hour I was there and I am already looking forward to my next class.
The best teachings and well known in the community!
Best vibes, welcoming community, and great depth of expertise from numerous skilled upper-belt instructors! I’ve been going for 2 years have had nothing but great experiences
Before coming here I trained at another high quality school in Orange County. I moved to San Diego and was worried I wouldn’t find a place that I would like as much. I originally planned on doing a trial at three different places before making a decision but ended up trying NPJJ first and staying. What I like most about NPJJ is that the techniques/methods of teaching are always evolving.
Dropped in on the no-gi class today, Professor Mike offers great instruction, balance of technique and drilling was perfect, and a bunch of good training partners to roll with. All around great Academy.
North Park Bjj is an awesome place to train! Everyone’s friendly, fostering an environment that’s fun where everyone’s helping each other to progress and grow.
Family oriented fun place to learn Jiu jitsu 👍🏼
Started here almost a year ago at age 38 and couldn’t be happier with the academy and its 6 am crew. Very beginner friendly with top notch instruction and really great members to drill and roll with. The atmosphere is chill, but everyone is serious about learning and improving. Would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to start training Jiu Jitsu!
North park jiu jitsu is one of the best gyms in San Diego. The instructors here are top notch and actually care about advancing your BJJ skills. Couldn’t recommend this gym enough.
Amazing crew and coaches. Great spot if you near the downtown
First experience with any grappling whatsoever and Professor Mike has been encouraging me to push my limits. I highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn Brazilian Jiujitsu! A welcoming environment for all. BJJ has helped me with anxiety and depression as well. It has helped me come out of my shell to try new experiences. I have learned from my failures in class and come to class whenever I can make it. I've met many interesting people and can say it brings together all sorts of personalities. It has really opened my eyes to a new way of living life as well. I appreciate all the other professors who take their time and patience to teach us techniques. Private lessons have been helping me as well.
Love this place! Great instructors, very clean plus a fun and safe environment! Recommend for new comers and advanced students.
Laid back atmosphere with friendly students and top tier jiu jitsu instruction from head professor Michael Cusi

I transferred to this academy 2 weeks ago and it’s been a blast! I love connecting with all the men and women and the professors including the coaches have been so helpful and great. I don’t think I had the time spent with me to go over technical movements until I hit this gym, the break downs the step by steps have been helpful in so many ways! Many have been helpful & the vibes have been awesome!
Great place, and friendly people. I love the fact both my child and I can take classes at the same time.
Amazing place to train and learn! Such a great community with amazing coaches!
Mike Cusi is one of the best instructors in San Diego, period. Array of knowledge and great teaching skills and keeps class fun while challenging his students at the same time. Great with kids as well! If you want to learn jiujitsu to elevate not only yourself on a personal level but to also learn the art and its ins and outs. Go to North Park Jit Jitsu
NP Jiu Jitsu has one of the best atmosphere for learning. The instructors are all awesome and welcoming. Mike is an amazing instructors that will teach you the concepts & techniques and has a great ability for breaking down the technical piece so all levels can learn successfully. Paulette is amazing with the kids program and makes everyone feel safe, comfortable and welcoming for all kids at all skill levels. My two girls age 10 and 11 have been training with Paulete and are always excited to go to class. Having a female black belt instructor is great for young girl’s to look up to and to see that they can be successful in Jiu Jitsu. They have grown so much in their Jiu Jitsu journey. We all have by switching to the North Park family. I have trained at 5 gyms over the years and NorthPark Jiu-Jitsu is truly like a second family.
This is a great gym full of great people. I joined about 8 months ago without having any grappling or combat sports experience. Everyone from the instructors down to other students are helpful and show each other respect. I highly recommend this school for anyone looking to expand on their skills or those who are just starting out.
I’ve trained at jiujitsu gyms all over the world in my military career and this is one of best. Highly knowledgeable instructors and a welcoming atmosphere for all levels from beginners to advanced.
I was visiting SD from out of town and called ahead to see if I could drop in - really glad I did! Mike extended an invitation and a couple hours on the mats with the crew here was the highlight of my trip. Mike, Ram and the rest of the group were welcoming right off the bat and made me feel like I was at my home gym. Clean and spacious gym, and a group of super talented grapplers at all levels. With family in SD and regular visits I'm very much looking forward to the next time I can swing by and train with NPBJJ. Thanks again guys.
North Park BJJ has awesome coaches and great training partners. This gym has so much mat space so even when there are a lot of people on the mat it never feels crowded. Come train here if you want to learn BJJ in a clean, fun, and friendly environment!
Big Thanks to Professor Mike and the rest of the crew at North Park Jiu Jitsu! I was visiting San Diego, and they welcomed me onto their mats with open arms. Did a solid hour of training rounds with some real killers, and everyone was friendly and happy to be there. If you live in the area, I highly recommend this place.
Finally found a reason to justify my move to San Diego, very friendly and inclusive environment. Everyone there welcoming and fun to be with.
This is a great gym. I visited the school this weekend when my wife was traveling for work. Super friendly atmosphere and welcoming. I often get intimidated in new environments, especially in the sport of jiujitsu. The moment I walked in, I felt immediately welcome and comfortable. I had the opportunity to meet two Black Belts, Ram and Gabriel and they were such nice guys! Super clean facility, large gym floor, and easy to drop in for a session or two. Definitely going to return next time I'm in town!
Awesome, laid back place to train! I dropped in as a visitor and everyone was very hospitable and welcoming. Large mat space, clean facilities. The head coach Mike is super chill and I got a great workout and picked up some cool techniques during the classes he taught in both gi and no gi.
These guys are legit Rab, Mike, and Rob know what their doing and treat you like family. Facilities are clean and their putting in a shower to catch a class between a busy schedule.
Top notch instruction and great rolls. I have dropped in to NP Jiujitsu a number of times when I've visited San Diego and they are always warm and welcoming and glad to have me. Michael is funny and a patient instructor. 10/10 will drop in again when I visit San Diego in the future.
Great spot! I dropped in to train while I was visiting from out of town, and received a warm welcome from the instructors and students. Checked every box I look for in a gym; clean, safe and friendly training environment with high level jiu jitsu. I would absolutely train here if I lived in the area.
Very clean and spacious place. The instructors are very passionate about what they do. Would highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in getting into self defense.
Very awesome gym! I highly recommend it for anyone who has been curious about jiu-jitsu :3 It's a very friendly environment ♥️🖤🤍
Been here for 3 months and its a great school with an awesome environment! Everyone is very nice and welcoming. All the instructors are good at teaching. Professor Mike and the coaching staff provide great attention to detail to make sure everyone understands what is being taught. Not one bad experience!
I started out here as a complete noob white belt and now am a formidable purple belt. I have traveled around and visited many Jiu Jitsu schools and I can tell you that the level of technical Jiu Jitsu that is being taught here at North Park Jiu Jitsu is world class. Because this is my home academy, I didn't realize how good it was until I saw other schools. Not only that, but North Park Jiu Jitsu is constantly hosting famous Jiu Jitsu competitors as guest instructors. People like Lucas Lepri, Nicholas Meregali, Abraham Marte, and more. You really can't get much better than this. I can't believe I randomly stumbled upon this hidden gem years ago. If you are even considering trying out Jiu Jitsu, don't hesitate to come here. The people are kind and considerate and the Jiu Jitsu is top notch.
I've been coming to NPBJJ for just a couple months now. Total beginner, no experience in martial arts. But it's been an awesome experience, and I feel lucky that NPBJJ was the gym I stumbled into. The whole team here, and everyone I've taken classes with, Mike, Paulete, Ram, Audric, Tio, Romero, Johnny, have been incredibly warm and welcoming. I told them at the outset I was looking to learn discipline, and when I started missing classes a few weeks in, Mike reached out to me directly to see what was up. I've seen Mike and the team give everyone that comes through the door that same level of attention and respect, whatever their background. They have created a community based on trust, humility, and camaraderie, and you can see it in the loyal trainees that come by every day. There's more being taught here than just technique -- and ultimately that's what's kept me coming back. Really recommend anyone to come by and give it a go. You will meet some incredible people, and find a real challenge.
I started my 7 year old son here 4 months ago originally as a way for him to get out of the house and not play as much video games, but his has turned out to be better than I had hoped. The friendliness AND professionalism that the coaches show all while building an environment of teamwork and friendship will have a lasting impact on my child for years to come. There has to be a level of patience above normal when teaching kids as young as 4 with very little attention span and this place has it. Highly recommend it and thanks team North Park BJJ!
My daughter (5) has been attending the children's classes for a few weeks now and absolutely loves it. As a parent, safety is always top of mind, especially for younger children who require more supervision, instruction, and repetition. This is something I think the coaches do very well, especially coach Audric. His teaching style is thoughtful and age appropriate (something that can be very challenging with children of varying ages). As a parent, I highly recommend the childrens class. My daughter looks forward to attending every class!
Came to North Park Brazilian Jiu Jitsu because how close it was to my home. But after my first week i realized it had been i had made a great choice. Any sport let alone a martial art can be intimidating to start especially as an adult. But at NPBJJ those fears quickly vanished and it just became a fun learning environment. No ego or chips on shoulders, at least none that i could see. Men and woman even kids rolling around in the same class. Safe fun and welcoming. Starting this mew adventure at NPBJJ was a great choice for me. Now i would not want to move from where i live just to stay close to NPBJJ. Profesor Mike is the man him and the other coaches are great teachers. Definitely check out NPBJJ
Great environment. Everyone is welcoming and are trying to make each other that much better every day.
My journey at North Park Jiu Jitsu began a year ago when I was first introduced to BJJ as a means of managing my health, diabetes in particular, while learning the art of self defense. When searching for a gym, I looked for a place that was welcoming to beginners and responsive to diverse needs. Some enter BJJ to compete others, camaraderie through athleticism. Some are those like myself who are interested in learning an art while achieving health goals. The great thing about North Park Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is that it is a one stop-shop with everyone in mind. Additionally, I appreciate the structure, encouragement, and live feedback from instructors during training. I look forward to continuing to grow at NPBJJ!
I moved to San Diego about 8 months ago and dropped in at several schools and I ended up at north park. Mike and the rest of the instructors have cultivated an awesome culture and provide technical instruction. It’s very hard to find a gym where you get world class instruction and a room full of friends and I happened to find both at NP.
Awesome place to train. Easy going and relaxed atmosphere with cool and friendly people. Top-notch and very knowledgeable instructors!
Just moved to the area and was looking for a place to train. I contacted North Park BJJ and they got back to me immediately to set up a trial. The mats are clean, everyone is super friendly and the vibe just feels right. Mike is a fantastic coach and pays attention to the little details. I cannot recommend this place enough. Go there for great community and excellent bjj.
If you are interested in learning something that is physical yet mental at the same time jiu jitsu should be on the top of your list. If you want to be around students and instructors with a mindset of learning north park is great family environment for the kids classes and womens and beginners classes. Want some technical rounds you can find them in the advance classes… if learning is the goal you are in good hands! Osss ! See you on the mats !
NPBJJ is an amazing school with great instruction that still maintains a welcome and family inclusive environment for adults and kids. Weather you are just starting Jiu Jitsu or a seasoned practitioner NPBJJ is a place that you definitely want to check out.
This place is amazing. Great professors and great people. Jiu Jitsu has made my life so much better
Instructor Ram is funny and helpful. I like coming here. One thing, entrance is though laundromat.
I highly recommend North Park Jiu Jitsu. There is no doubt that you’ll receive top-level instruction here. The instructors are knowledgeable and continually seek to learn new techniques and teaching methods from top Jiu Jitsu practitioners around the world. The gym culture is another plus. NPJJ promotes values such as work ethic, humility, inclusivity, among many others. NPJJ supports its students in achieving their BJJ goals, whether it be winning competitions or simply learning the art. To top it off, NPJJ has an amazing women’s program. The program is lead by Ms. Paulete Cusi who is a seasoned and accomplished competitor herself. She shows a wide variety of moves and assists women in acquiring the confidence to achieve their full potential. The growing group of women are awesome people to train with whom I am proud to call my friends.
Amazing instruction for all levels and friendly training environment!
Northpark BJJ is everything to look for in a gym and a community. As a gym, it’s relaxed and challenging. As a community, everyone is clearly there to learn and enjoy themselves at the same time. Every class has a wealth of experience and as long as your willing to ask the question, there will be plenty of people more than willing to help get you to the answer. I walk out of every session with my body aching and a smile on my face. You won’t find a group of better instructors or a more welcoming community than the one they’ve built at Northpark.
North Park Jiu Jitsu is a great small gym with extremely talented and passionate professors. I feel very welcomed by the instructors as well as the other students. I love the women's classes, it is a fun group of gals that support each other and work hard to get better together. I also appreciate how laid back the gym is - no strict gi requirements but still respectful traditions like bowing on/off the mat. I highly recommend NP whether you are looking for a new way to exercise, make some friends, or simply learn one thousand ways to break someone's arm!
Came to San Diego to train, and found a great gym! Everyone is super friendly and welcoming. Had some tough rounds and learned a lot from the coaching staff. I definitely recommend North Park Jiujitsu.
North Park jiujitsu has the perfect vibe that I am looking for in a BJJ school. When you walk in you feel at home and relaxed. I’m a 42 year old retired police officer, I’m not looking for a militant school where everyone is trying to kill each other. I just want a place where the vibe is good, the people are passionate about jiujitsu, and everybody is there to learn and to help each other grow, and that is north park BJJ. The head professor Mike Cusi is a phenomenal teacher, a wealth of knowledge and his love for jiujitsu and teaching is very apparent. All of the professors at the school are great teachers and a reflection of the vibe that Mike brings to the table. If you’re looking for personal growth, an excellent workout, a relaxed atmosphere surrounded by good people and jiujitsu that matches the Southern California lifestyle, then north park jiujitsu is your school. I highly recommend this place.
North Park BJJ is a great training spot for families and people looking to learn the beautiful art. I trained there for a few months and learned so much from Mike, Pauline, Ram, Audric and others. The relationships and technique you pick up will last with you. Highly recommend North Park BJJ!
North park Brazilian jiu-jitsu is one of the best jiujitsu gyms. Friendly environment and fosters a great learning experience. Very technical and detail oriented. I learn something new every day.
Chill, tight-knit community with competition black belts Ram Ananda and Johnny Tama. Including seminars from world champions Mikey, Tainan, and Meregali
North Park Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has unquestionably changed my life. As someone who started training karate at age 5, martial arts are an important part of my identity, but it was always a dream to train Jiu-Jitsu. I got a lot more than Jiu-Jitsu though, since joining North Park BJJ in August of 2019. I found a new family and lifelong friends. As a timid white belt, Professors Mike and Jim fostered a fun and welcoming environment that made Jiu-Jitsu accessible and exciting. They took a genuine interest in my personal development and invested a great deal of time on and off the mats to guide and inspire me. Receiving my blue belt and representing North Park at a competition were two of my most rewarding and meaningful experiences to date. I could not be more grateful to be a member of the North Park family and could not possibly provide a stronger recommendation to anyone interested in self-defense, martial arts, camaraderie, self-actualization, or just having the most fun they’ve had in their life.
I came to this school thinking that i was going to be training only twice a week, and it’s been almost two years training pretty much everyday. The instructors are top notch, starting with the lead head instructor Professor Mike who poses a large wealth of Jiujitsu knowledge, and there isn’t a single question he can’t answer. He’s has taught me a lot from the beginning as well as always being in my corner every-time i go to any tournament. Professor Jims fundamentals classes on wednesdays are absolutely a must for beginners and advance students where concepts and training methods are always introduced to get the aaahh!! moments, especially for those still in the beginning phase of learning the universal language of Brazilian Jiujitsu. Coach Paulette is also another amazing instructor who leads the women's class where my girlfriend has the opportunity to attend. Coach Audric with his outstanding wrestling background and takedowns leads the kids classes and teaches adult classes as well. If you’re debating whether to start your jiujitsu journey or not, do yourself a favor and come to this school for a trial or week trial class and discover your human potential, you won’t regret it, not only i’ve grown as a person in this school but i’ve built great friendships with others.
North Park Jiu Jitsu is a great place to go to for any skill set. You can walk in as a beginner and feel welcomed and treated safe as if you’re one of their own! Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, women’s class, and kids there’s something for everyone!
North Park BJJ has been a great experience the past month. I had no experience on the mats before joining and only a month in I feel like I have learned a lot and have been exposed to high-level movements and techniques. The professors are highly knowledgeable in a multitude of techniques from jiu-jitsu, wrestling, and self-defense. They follow a curriculum that allows you to understand the chosen move thoroughly, before moving on. After the class, you can roll/spar with quality training partners for 30min to an hour. If you commit to the art you will be able to grow exponentially here at North Park BJJ. 100% recommend.
North Park BJJ is perhaps one of the most friendliest BJJ communities I have met, Professor Mike, Professor Paulete, and Professor Audric take their teaching very serious. Throughout my time of training here they've showed me so much about the art of BJJ and a way to keep my mentality good. I had anxiety and some other stuff for a while and they taught me to remain calm even in the worse situations. Overall I will be coming back. This is a community well worth your time.
My experience training at NPBJJ has been fantastic. The coaches and staff have found a great balance of laid back vibe and formal/traditional training styles. The gym is very welcoming to new students and won’t try to “sales guy” you if you try a free class. 5/5
Thinking of taking up BJJ, thinking of getting better in terms of health and self awareness? Then this is the academy for you! I couldn’t have imagined the amount of generosity and positive vibes I received when I first started here and still when I go and train. This place makes you feel like family. And I don’t what makes you work harder than family ☺️🙏🏼 Amazing academy, amazing Staff, Amazing Coaches, truly delivering amazing Brazilian juijitsu!
When I moved to California from the south, my biggest goal was to find a jiu jitsu gym that is gi focused, technical, and most importantly female friendly. I have felt incredibly welcomed and respected across the board here, the staff knew my name the first week I trained, and there’s a female instructor, and all girls class, and a super female supportive environment all around. The instruction is very technical and the instructors do a great job teaching at every level. I’m pretty new at the sport and have felt like I know whats going on 😂 I’m super thrilled to have found NPBJJ and plan on training here for a very long time.
Highly recommend it!!! It's a great place to train with great instructors who are focused on making you understand Jiu Jitsu and put you in a position to be able to perform at your best. Also, everyone is super nice with an awesome vibe and have only your best interest at heart. Cheers!!!
I’ve done martial arts for most of my life, and when I moved to San Diego, I decided to look for a good place to learn BJJ near my home. Ive been to good schools, and bad ones; North Park is a great one. My classmates have really become a family, and the staff really cares about you achieving your potential. It’s a great place to learn to your own level—it provides equal benefits to those looking to win competitions, as well as those looking to break out of their shell, or maybe just looking for a new hobby. The staff is incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and encourages questions. You’ll learn BJJ the right way, in a friendly and low pressure environment. If you’re in the military, it’s particularly great. There’s a solid military discount, and it’s a great place to “turn off” the military life. I’d say 30-40% of the students are in the military, but you’d never realize it. No one will be compulsively thanking you for your service or looking at you like you might have ptsd. In short—great value, high quality education in a fun environment.
I have been with NPBJJ now for almost a year and has been some of the best instruction and training I have had during my 5 years of training Jiu jitsu. All the training partners are great and everyone is eager to learn and make others better. Everyone has been super friendly and there is no ego, everyone there just loves training Jiu jitsu. If you’re looking for a great place to train with awesome instruction in a fun/clean environment, look no further.
Jiu-jitsu at NorthparkBJJ is a welcoming experience to all levels but if you are especially interested in modern cunning edge technique that will turn your game into a cold, calculated series of relentless attacks and counters then you may want to come by...
I was visiting San Diego and called NorthPark BJJ asking if I could attend their 730 Friday class. Rob was very welcoming and Professor Mike was interactive throughout the class. Great school and friendly people I'll definitely be stopping by again.
Great Jiu Jitsu gym! Went in for the 730AM class and everyone was so welcoming. The class focused on one specific position which was really helpful and informative. Will definitely stop here again when I visit San Diego!
Do it! Go train. This place is GREAT. Read further for details. Just wrapped up a session at North Park Brazillian Jui Jitsu and I can recommend this place strongly, without hesitation as your primary training center or your go to place for a drop in session as you travel through for work, vaca or whatever brings you to SanDiego. I travel a-lot for work and get opportunities to roll at different gyms nationally and internationally. I can say North Park was exceptionally welcoming. Everyone was friendly, willing to train hard, work hard, teach and learn. Jamie Reynoso was the instructor tonight and the instruction was clear with logical progression. I got a chance to roll with him. He is a monster. I never once felt like things were out of control or that i was at risk. Also, props to their purple belt that was finishing the kids class on my arrival at the gym. He had clear expectations, class control and demonstrated what seemed to be infinite patience. Thanks you guys and i hope to return before i fly out.
This place rocks! Big, clean facility. Very welcoming instructors. I highly recommend North Park Jiu-Jitsu to beginners and seasoned athletes alike!!!
Very well maintained gym with friendly staff and training partners! I dropped in once while in San Diego for work and hope to become a regular visitor!
Great place to train Instructor Tama is very knowledgeable and funny . Laid back atmosphere and very cool friendly people .I travel a lot from the east coast to west and been to several different gyms. Hands will come back for another visit when in town ! Thanks Guys and Gals for having me .
I started jiu jitsu about 6 months ago, and it has completely changed my life. I visited a few different places before I found North Park BJJ, and it is definitely the best instruction and community that I found. I leave each training session with such a positive feeling and strong motivation for the next class. I encourage everyone to at least give NP BJJ a try, given the impact it has had on me.
Great instructors and good people, wether you are just learning or you need to sharpen your skills with a great workout
The instructors are super patient and really helpful. Getting my ass kicked has never been so much fun.
Getting to roll and learn new moves all while getting a great work out.
I highly recommend this place to everyone! I'm so glad I found this school! The coaches and the students were very welcoming, patient, and knowledgeable. I will definitely be training there in the future because of the great atmosphere and the high quality coaching. I think North Park Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a great place for people of any age and level of experience to learn the art of BJJ.
This is the perfect place to learn the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and I'm really glad I signed up with this gym. All the instructor's here are knowledgeable and technical, always giving great advice. The instructor's are really patient and personable as well, your not just a number in their class. I really like the overall environment, I'm a beginner and I don't feel intimated at all. Everyone here is always willing to help and teach others. I definitely recommend North Park BJJ!!! Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
I came in just to have my little one, Kaia who is 8yrs old, to learn self defense and discipline. The people here are super friendly and knowledgeable and suggested I train along with my daughter for encouragement. Three months later and 20lbs less I can honestly say this was the best thing that has happened to someone over 40 and I recommend this for all ages! This school has top notch professors in Mike and the rest of the coaches!
Love this place, the more jiu jitsu in North Park the better! Great, central location and extremely knowledgeable black belts so you're definitely in good hands. So happy to have a legit BJJ gym in my neighborhood now! If you want to train in North Park, I'll see you there!
I normally never ever leave reviews, so this is kind of a big deal for me. North park bjj is just that awesome I had to let it be know. The people here are awesome, much like finding the perfect pair of jeans one that fits just right this gym has a eclectic collection of professors and students that has make this gym "just right for me". Come check it out you will not be disappointed.
If you're young/old, trying to get in shape, or have desires to compete this school will have something for you. Gym has a very friendly and unintimidating atmosphere. The head instructor, Mike is a great teacher and knowledgeable. He is very detailed in his instruction that it makes learning the art perfect for slow learners like myself. Highly recommended.
I've been training in Jiu-jitsu for 7-8 years so I know what I'm looking for in a gym when I first walk into a new place. The things I look for are a clean Gym, good instructors who know what they're talking about when they show a move and most important to me is chill training partners who are not trying to take your head off. North park Jiu-Jitsu checks all my boxes for training at a new gym, and can't beat the prices too
I have been training at North Park Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as soon as it opened. I live 5 minutes from the gym. This place has a very good chill vibes in regards with the teachers and students. Very friendly atmosphere. If you want to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and self defense stop by and give them a try.
Went to a free trial class and while the kids enjoyed it the complete lack of Covid protocols make us too uncomfortable to continue. No masks on teachers or the students in an enclosed and stuffy room is just not for us right now. Be prepared for that going in, we had no idea it would be that way. For some people, however, this is probably exactly what you and your kids need. For us, vaccinated or not, it’s too soon to be this close to other people, especially given who else we could potentially expose.
I am giving 2 stars to this establishment due to them having amazing coaches (Audric, Joe, and Rino) for the kids class BUT our overall experience is less than mediorce- the owner Rob is NOT clear on his policy of not attending anymore then still charged me for both kids even though they have not attended for over a month and when asked, he had different answers for every parent that wanted to cancel. This type of leadership and business makes me question why we were treated this way and does the bottom line comes down to wanting to take money from hard working parents who wanted to provide their children with a new skill. -- another issue that is absurd is the lack of communication on the "free GI and patch" when you sign up, we did NOT receive ours and paid for everything out of pocket and no one said a word. I will definitely think twice about joining here and make sure you do your research.
If you are a foreigner, don't go. They deceive you financially. They list ridiculous contract terms. I hate jiu-jitsu because of these people :) Welcome
