I trained at this jiujitsu gym for 2 months while I was in town for an internship, and it truly felt like a home. The environment is incredibly welcoming, and everyone—from beginners to advanced practitioners—treats each other with respect. The gym is stacked with upper belts and high-level guys who are always willing to share their knowledge and help you improve. One of the things I appreciate the most is how clean the gym is as I saw them carefully clean it every night. I also loved that they do nogi for the summer, this immediately got me hooked on training here. The price is very reasonable for everything they offer—it's great value considering the quality of instruction. Even though I was only there for a short time, when it was time for me to leave it felt like I had been there forever. If you're looking for a place to train and grow in jiujitsu, this gym is the perfect spot.

I am a black belt from just north of the area. I would highly recommend Noel Smith Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. High level technique with great people in a safe environment. If you are in the area or thinking about trying Jiu-Jitsu i would definitely stop in.

This place is amazing, it's the best gym out there. The instructors, coaches and staff care about every person who comes here, when work with you they make sure you understand to the best your ability. Not one Coach there is the same they all have different teaching methods, where each method is the same but different at the same time. Anyway it's a very family friendly place that I recommend to any one in the area.
Noel Smith BJJ & Fitness is an amazing place for the entire family. This gym offers everything you could want! Tae Kwon Do, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kids & Adult Boxing, Muay Thai, and Fitness classes. The price is extremely good for what you get! I'm a Tae Kwon Do black belt from a different school and I've only taken one Tae Kwon Do class here but they are legit! I'd easily recommend this school to anyone in the area. I currently help out with the Kids boxing class and the instructors are both amazing and really keep the kids motivated as well as teach them core values such as respect and perseverance. I mainly take the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and I love it! The instructors to every class are amazing! If I ever need help with anything, they are willing to take time out of there own day to help me achieve my goals. I've improved significantly thanks to these guys. That's not even mentioning the fellow students@ everyone who trains here creates an amazing environment for improvement. People from all walks of life with all sorts of beliefs and opinions are able to become great friends here. Professor Noel has done an excellent job building up his gym and filling it with great people. So yes, I recommend this place to anyone and everyone who is interested! Love this gym! Start training in BJJ just over a year ago and I am hooked! Excellent atmosphere where everyone feels welcomed regardless of age, gender, or experience level. There are numerous different classes available throughout the day and week, making it extremely accommodating to those with a busy life. I’d recommend this gym and I’ve even convinced a friend to join.

I have been taking classes here for the last 5 months. I had no experience but they make it easy to learn. There are many different class levels so you dont feel overwhelmed. I really enjoy the classes and the relationships with those training with me. Since I have started I have added extra classes and even started private lessons. I would highly recommend Noel Smith BJJ!

If you're looking for a positive growing environment with very positive influences for any child this is the place to be. Every single coach there has went above and beyond for my children, they not only welcomed them with open arms but there are so many new friends they have made. They are teaching my children so much, and the confidence that goes along with it is amazing. My children have made new friends, gained confidence, have great societal relationships and learned so much. We use their programs for our homeschool Phys Ed and trust me it's awesome! I cant give enough kudos to them, we absolutely love them all!
Noel Smith has an amazing spacious gym and some of the best trainers I've ever worked with! The trainers care about every athlete and go above and beyond to make classes challenging and fun. Noel, the owner, is great to work with and provides some of the best customer service I've ever had!

I am a student at this gym, I take taekwondo and jiu jitsu. I have been going here for 7-8 years. The instructors are always so kind but strict at the same time. This gym has taught me how to defend myself. I recommend that for taekwondo start your kids at age 4. For jiu jitsu I would say 4-6. I am a black belt in taekwondo. My experience here so far has been amazing and I would live all over again. The gym is growing, but you could make it even bigger by joining today. Note:The gym has moved locations but is next to the old gym to the left. I truly think this is the best gym ever.

An amazing group of people. Really has a family atmosphere. Even from my first class I felt welcome and a part of the team. If you played sports in high school and you miss the sense of camaraderie I would highly recommend you come to this gym. For context, I live an hour away from the gym but come 4 times a week because of the amazing setting.

This is the best place to learn Martial Arts for kids and adults. Me and my family have so much fun with the workouts, we are in much better shape now and I’ve noticed that my kids seem more confident and are doing better in school. I can’t recommend Noel Smith or his instructors enough. If you’re thinking about putting yourself or your kids in martial arts you definitely owe it to yourself to try this place out! I was very nervous when I first went in but they immediately put me at ease, everyone was so helpful and it has become the best part of the day going to take the classes.

I had done BJJ and MMA for about a decade when I came to Noel's. My team situation changed and I was looking for a new home. I had known Noel previously but never trained under him full time. Within a year or so I had broken through previous plateaus, developed an entirely new approach to my game, and ultimately was promoted for the first time in 7 years. The leaps and bounds that I progressed was enough to stay, but the environment at the gym is extremely welcoming and friendly. I've gained great skills and friends. You will not regret giving Noel Smith BJJ a chance!

I started training with Noel Smith a very long time ago. I’ve watched him grow as an instructor, leader, businessman. He genuinely cares about his students and the spirit, knowledge and techniques of BJJ. I have not trained in a long time but miss the teachings and family that is Noel Smith Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
My daughter loves it here! We took her out to focus on other sports for 2 years and when she came back it was like she never left! It has become a second family for her!
I train at a different academy nearby but travel to Noel's for seminars and special events. His academy is clean and welcoming and it is always a pleasure to train with him and his family (because his students truly are family). I only wish I lived closer to be able to train with him more frequently.

I was an early 40's, out of shape guy when I started here, looking for a way to get exercise. Normal gyms bore me. I'd be good for 3 months and then quit for 9. I need to be mentally stimulated too. I wanted a place where I could get exercise and I found it at Noel's. Cardio like no other, strength training using body weight, flexibility and you learn something at the same time. I also wanted to feel welcome. I chose Noel's because you could feel the family vibe. There is a great mix of men, women, kids, all age ranges from kids to 50's. The people here are like my second family. I've never been as consistent at another gym, as I have these past two years!!!

I started at Noel's taking a kickboxing class and loved it. Eventually I tried out a jiu jitsu class and got hooked! Been doing it for two years now and never looked back. Noel and all other coaches are encouraging and helpful and provide a nice atmosphere to train in. There are a variety of class times so it's easy to fit into your schedule. The school offers multiple programs for adults and kids, including a very successful taekwondo program with great coaches as well. Something for everyone here.
When I decided I wanted to try Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I was admittedly a little apprehensive. I started reading reviews of local gyms to try to find one to try and one popped out with a lot of great reviews. I chose Noel’s gym and haven’t looked back. Whether you’re looking for an extra curricular activity, self defense training or competition training, you will find it here. I have made a lot of great new friends along the way and it almost seems like it’s more of a big family than a gym. I could not recommend Noel’s more.

Can’t say enough good things about this place. I’ve been training here for about 6 months. All the coaches are very friendly and knowledgeable. I’ve learned a ton and lost about 40 lbs. Highly recommend to anyone looking to learn self defense or just get in better shape.

I was in town and communicated with Noel about a drop-in. He returned my email within 5 min and was very welcoming. From the time I walked in the door until I left Noel, his wife, his staff, and the team was amazing!! A very open and tight knit group. I walked in a stranger and left meeting some great people!! I'm so happy we found this school. This place has become a second home to my family. Noel and everyone of his kids classes' instructors are amazing. They work great with kids (even young ones like mine) helping them focus and learn. They really know how to positively motivate them to improve and give them confidence. My kids love going to their classes. And for me it's been a great place to workout, learn selfdefense, and be warmly accepted as a beginner. Happy to be a part of the Noel Smith BJJ family!
Ive known Noel Smith, his staff, and the people who train here for quite a few years. All are great, understanding, and willing to teach. An extremely welcoming place to come, no matter your prior experience level. A great location for kids and parents alike to come, learn, and train.
I have been training here for two years or so. I love the environment. So open to the new and inxperienced, and the uppet belts are always there to help you. To be honest there is an amazing group of purple-brown belts. Also, with three super black belt instructors there is never a lack of fresh perspective or more detail even on the most basic techniques. This is proven by the high level of the more experienced guys AND gals who train here. There are numorous women who train here as well, so if you are a girl interested in self defense dont worry about feeling intimidated. Everyone will welcome you, and you will have plenty of female training partners to get you off on the right foot. I love every night spent at Noels training my ass of, you probably will too!

Ever since I switched gyms due to moving to Glen Burnie I have felt welcomed. Everyone is always willing to help me learn, and the family atmosphere is fantastic!
Upon moving to Glen Burnie, I looked up all the local BJJ schools and found Noel Smith's to be the best. I was recently out of the Military and it was an easy transition as there are not only many active service members and veterans alike, but the instructor himself is a veteran. The school has an inclusive membership that covers Judo taught by a black belt, Maui Thai, Boxing, and even strength and conditioning classes. Everyone is humble and you feel welcome from the get go. If one is so inclined, you could even train 7 days a week as someone is always there. Also the purple and brown belts are always staying after class to drill the techniques of the day and/ or answer questions. Private lessons are available also. There is also a kids class full of students, as is the adults. Many also participate in the local competitions and are very supportive as well. I'm very pleased to be part of the team. By the way, parking is great as there is a free parking garage on the same block.
I began training here with my 7 year old son in January after 2 years at another great gym in the area that unfortunately closed. Awesome kids class instructors in both BJJ and TKD. Personable and high quality. Adult classes are great and run every day of the week!. Large mat space to train on. Belt levels that run from white to several brown belts, and quite often a visiting black belt or 2. Always someone to learn from, super welcoming, family atmosphere, from day 1 knew this would be a good place for my son and I. Great relationships with other gyms in the area. Yoga and strength and flexibility training opportunities provided as well. Great part of this gym is also the multiple seminars a year. Already had at least 4 so far this year and more to come. This year ran a full weekend with over 7 high level blackbelts giving classes, including Kurt Osiander, Roli Delgado, Roberto Abreu, etc... Affiliated under Renato Tavares who comes at least yearly, so you know they are legit. Worth your time to come by and get a roll in.
Noel is great at the half guard game, applying pressure in the top game, and fun to train with. He is friendly and personable, which creates a great culture at the gym. The Noel Smith BJJ Team definitely has a welcoming, family feel to it and it's a great place to learn and grow. Noel has several seminars at the gym a year and in 2015 has already had Roberto 'Cyborg' Abreu, Kurt Osiander, and Roli Delgado come out to share knowledge with his students. Noel's instructor Master Renato Tavares also comes out at least once a year and he is a blast to train with as well. There are a lot of great training partners at all belt levels to roll with. This is a great BJJ gym for both the beginner and the seasoned competitor, I highly recommend it!
This is a great place to train. They teach a top notch Jiu jitsu class and the instruction is first rate. The students and instructors obviously care about each other. I've been associated with this school for a few years now and am glad I found it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone in the Baltimore - Glen Burnie area.
Awesome club for all levels! Noel is a great instructor and creates a great environment to study Martial Arts. This is NOT a gym where you pay your money and you are forgotten. All levels are treated well. All of the upper belts are helpful to train you.
I was referred by a judo blackbelt who trains jiu jitsu at Noel's, that has spent many years in martial arts and been to many different schools. His selling point was that it is very welcoming and there is no BS like where some schools have people doing their own thing and dont include new students. My experience so far at Noel's school has greatly exceeded expectations. Right from the get go, like previous reviewers have mentioned, you feel like a part of the family immediately. Every person at this school is very personable, positive, and helpful. Upper belts are all very approachable and love to help and answer questions. Noel is a super guy. Approachable, personable, knowledgeable, caring, and giving are some prefect adjectives that describe his personality. Who wouldnt want to train here?!?!
My son loved the kids Summer Camp program this year and begged to attend the after school care program when school starts up. The BJJ training at Noel Smith's is top notch and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. He has so many upper belts who help out with different styles of their own, you'll develop quickly regardless of your gender, age or body type. Caution: It's VERY addicting!!
I've been going to Noel Smith BJJ for a little over a year and I love it. It's a fun atmosphere and Noel is a great instructor. He takes the time to demonstrate the technique and makes sure everyone understands before moving on. Everyone at the school is very friendly and all of the higher belts are always willing to teach and even stay after class to review techniques or teach you something new. Not only is Noel a great instructor but he's extremely friendly and easily approachable. There are tons of students at the school and there isn't a single person who's name he doesn't know and that he doesn't take time to talk to. As if that wasn't enough of a reason to come to the school Noel also has black belts from other schools come to his school to teach. Almost all of the black belts he has as guest instructors are world champions and known internationally. If you're interested in learning BJJ this is the place to be.
Students young and old love this school! For good reason ... the Noel Smith BJJ experience is way more than just the typical studio or martial arts parlor. It is a community of it's own. All staff and students alike are extremely friendly. Newcomers are welcomed into the flock & made to feel as though they have belonged all along. This is no martial arts boutique with aisles of pretty merchandise for purchase that don't actually help your game; Instead, they are all about the arts itself, focusing on technique and condition. The no-frills motif makes reminds me of my own living room -- it is VERY easy to feel at home here. The quality of the martial arts they present is truly world class, with a number of students and staff competing regularly at every level, and doing well. They get quality instruction, broken down to the smallest steps so that even the greenest beginners can pick it up quickly and easily, and presented broadly enough so that even the most advanced can benefit as well. Be prepared to work hard, & be prepared to feel the results.
I personally can not express on how amazing Noel Smiths Bjj is. He is a wonderful instructor. He goes above and beyond for his students. If you ever want your child to get into something constructive send them there.
Noels "Noels Smith BJJ" academy has been a delightful place to begin to learn the Art of Jiu Jitsu and also get into shape. In the last 8 weeks i've been able to lose roughly 10 lbs and the whole time do it with a smile on my face. The gym is a very friendly place with an abundance of knowledge and people willing to help you on your BJJ journey. The Academy also caters to the children as well with a top notch youth program led by great instructors. I have since enrolled both of my children in the youth program and they love it. They are becoming more fit by the day and more confident by the hour. I recommend Noel Smith BJJ to anyone looking to get into shape and learn BJJ/self defense.
I joined Noel's school mainly for Muay thai. The school was fairly new when i joined, and over time i saw the classes become more structured and organized. The classes now are great because they have different levels and techniques to match your experience. Noel is fair about payments and not pushy with ridiculous contracts like most bigger gyms. I'd have to say the best thing about Noel's gym is the diversity among the students. Having a lot of amateur and pro level fighters, you can get sparring time in everyday if you wanted to. Someone is always up to spar, this is hard to say for some other gyms. technique, principal, and muscle memory are key but something about being in the cage with good fighters has trained me to remain calm instead of being scared; connecting that boundary between training on pads and real life situations. The boxing instructor there is also great. If you don't want to get in the cage or spar, you absolutely don't have to, the pad training is plentiful and every class is a a really good work out. you most likely won't need a separate gym membership if you go here, nor will you have time considering all of their different class schedules.
I am sure the other classes are good but the boxing one isnt. I am doing boxing in this gym and it isnt a good place to learn boxing because the coach doesnt teach you anything at all, the only thing he does is sparring but never teach you anything. no headmovement drill, no padwork, no footwork drill, no defense drill NO NOTHING!
This is not a good place to learn boxing. I really do not recommend this place if you want to learn how to box. Unless you want to waste your money here with a coach that doesn't teach you anything at all.
Do not go here unless you are willing to be ripped off! I have not stepped foot in this gym since July and they have been collecting payments from my acct. from then until December. Bad Bussiness!
