Posted 3 months agoAs someone who has never done Jiu Jitsu, I will say the hardest part for me was building the courage to walk through the gym doors to sign up. I was greeted by just about everyone in the gym at some point during my few minutes there and I was instantly hooked. As a fresh white belt I was nervous, but the instructor is great at teaching on every level, he will even take one on one time to help you understand. So don’t be like me and keep putting it off, because I regret don’t doing this sooner. Nightshift will become the second family you never know you needed.
Posted 1 year agoBack on the Mats After Years — Night Shift BJJ Made It Feel Like Coming Home As a guy in his 40s returning to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu after years away, I was honestly a little unsure about walking back into a gym. I wasn’t sure if I could keep up, or if I’d even feel like I belonged anymore. But from the moment I stepped into Night Shift BJJ in Flatwoods, I knew I’d found the right place. The coaches are fantastic — knowledgeable, patient, and truly dedicated to helping each person grow, no matter their age or experience. They helped me ease back into training at my own pace, and I’ve been able to rebuild my foundation without pushing beyond my limits. Every class feels productive, challenging, and enjoyable. But what really impressed me was how they work with kids. Watching the way the coaches teach, encourage, and interact with the younger students blew me away. The structure, discipline, and fun they bring to the kids' classes made such an impact that I signed my son up — and now we both train here. It’s become something we share, and it’s been amazing for both of us. There’s a strong sense of community at Night Shift. Everyone trains hard, respects each other, and leaves ego at the door. Whether you're just starting out, coming back like I did, or looking for a great place for your kids to learn martial arts, this school checks all the boxes. If you’re in the Ashland, KY / Tri-State area and thinking about getting into jiu-jitsu — or coming back to it — I can’t recommend Night Shift BJJ enough. OSS. 🥋
