My 7 year old son has been going here for 2.5 years and he loves it. His growth in not only jiujitsu but his mental strength has been outstanding. I’ve also started in the past few months because I know the quality training I will get. Highly recommend to any kids or adults to learn some great self defense jiujitsu in a low pressure environment.
I have been training hear for over 10 years in Jiu - Jitsu and Muay - Thai kick boxing, and love it! It always feels like a welcoming and big family. The instructors; Armando, Joe, Anthony, Christian, and Dylan are super knowledgeable and friendly with kids and adults. Also when I travel or need to put a "hold" on my account, it is as easy as one phone call. I can't say enough good things about this business!
Great school!, the instructors are awesome and it's a great atmosphere to learn jiu-jitsu
Joe is really good with the kids. Explains techniques in a "kid- friendly" way. My son loves going.
If you want to lean Brazilian jiujitsu for SELF DEFENSE this is the place for you. I've tried other schools and I found my place here because everything they teach is for the art of self defense not sport.
Family friendly, fun and self-esteem focused with a thoughtful approach to learning at your own pace. I can't express enough how happy we are that my son and I signed up.
Professor Justin is an excellent martial artist and instructor. World class Machado Jiu Jitsu.
Amazing facility, welcoming atmosphere. Trainers are top notch and can help all skill levels. Great place to make a martial arts home.
I highly recommend New Mexico jujitsu Academy Very friendly and professional instructors with great lenage in background. With a Clean facility and Very family friendly atmosphere.
I’m 63 years old and I’ve never had any martial arts training. Justin is amazingly patient and I am learning so much! I can do this! I feel great and would recommend jiu jitsu to people my age! I’ll be staying in training with them for sure! I’m hooked!
Really great school and teachers. The people here are really nice. And they know their stuff.
Great staff and instructors, everybody is friendly and easy to work with. Great place to learn martial arts. It’s lots of fun, I recommend people come and try it out!
My son love this place. The kids are so friendly and inviting. I really enjoy interacting with Keilyng who is the girl at the front desk. She explains the membership process in detail. Very professional. She even went above and beyond to help me with a dfficult membership payment process. I have been able to watch my son grow confidence and friends here. Great place!
This a great place to train! Lot’s of mat space, clean facility and the instructors are top notch. Professor Justin Hall has infinite patience with the kids and the adult jiu-jitsu class was awesome. Excellent technique shown and when we went to roll, the guys were tough but I always felt safe. Great school.
My son has been attending N.M Jiujitsu Academy for about the past 18 months. I have been extremely happy with the quality of the instructors, supportive environment, and responsible approach to teaching these skills, particularly to younger children. The classes provide great exercise, help build important life skills, and will hopefully help my son keep from losing his lunch money in the Albuquerque Public School system. The students are taught to develop strength and confidence while reserving the fighting skills for defending themselves, rather than utilizing these to become a bully aggressor. It has been a great experience so far, one which we expect to continue for at least the next several years.
They are excellent with kids. Great instructors! My child has been training here over a year and a halfand loves coming here. The instructors are very patient and encouraging to the kids. The bully proofing is invaluable to the kids.
I was going to write this review after the introductory 15 minutes I spent with Justin after having my mind BLOWN by a trap and roll, but I figured I should probably finish out the class before I jumped to conclusions. Then I realized I could never write a proper review until I finished out the free 10 day trial (which I made sure to squeeze as many classes into as possible). Once that was up I figured I should at least get my first stripe at 20 classes before I made any assumptions. Next it made complete sense to wait until I got my second stripe and was allowed to spar so my review contained all that was available (Not to mention Muay Thai, Wing Chung, and Judo). Of course, you can't REALLY review a place like this until you have spent HUNDREDS of hours there, shed blood, sweat, and tears, become a part of a huge community of some of the most wonderful people around, and allowed such an amazing lifestyle to truly propagate through your entire being….. so now, after 2 years of training, 5 days a week, getting the first stripe on my blue belt, I feel like I can say... I think i'll wait for my Purple belt! But seriously. This school has been such an integral catalyst for change in my life that I feel forever indebted to it. Justin and his team have built something truly marvelous here and they welcome new people with open arms. This is the perfect balance of self defense, exercise, community, and sport. I have come up through the ranks here with some of the finest individuals I have ever known. The children's classes are top notch and the kids get a fantastic education while having fun and learning to defend themselves. We call the kids "bully-proof" and I think it is the perfect description. If you have ever seen a UFC fight go to the ground and thought "Man, I would love to be able to do that," or you just need some more exercise, this is the place to be. I cannot wait to meet you. Chances are, I'll be there.
Best place to train self-defense Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Albuquerque. I have a been loyal student for over 4 years. Professional, clean and family friendly environment. Instructors are both experienced and knowledgeable with decades of experience. I recommend New Mexico Jiu Jitsu Academy to anyone interested in training martial arts. I've come to call the place home and it has enriched my life in many ways.
I've been taking Jiu Jitsu classes from Professor Justin Hall for approximately 18 months, and it has been an awesome experience. From day 1, I was treated with respect and have always received excellent instruction. Consideration has always been given based on my work schedule and communication is top notch! There's no surprises here! I've also had an opportunity to observe Justin and his staff communicate with other students, adult and children alike, and have always thought highly of their engagement and openness. The atmosphere is amazing and a true sense of belonging is always fostered. Without hesitation, I would recommend NM Jiu Jitsu Academy to anyone interested in learning the true art of Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Paul
I can only provide a very positive review of Justin Hall and his New Mexico Jiu Jitsu Academy! I have been training with Justin for about 3 years now and have found him to be an excellent instructor as well as an accomplished martial artist. He runs his business professionally and with high integrity, serving as an important role model and mentor for kids and adults alike. If you have any interest in learning how to defend yourself, I would strongly recommend that you visit Justin's academy and try a few classes. You won't be disappointed!
I’ve been training with Justin for several years now. His technical instruction is incredible, and he has a commitment to teaching excellence in Jujitsu. The blue belt combatives curriculum is awesome and I would recommend it to anyone looking to learn bjj and real world self defense, adults or for kids. I’ve also begun training wing chun, and am equally impressed! Highly recommend this school!
I have been taking my daughters here for over a year. Nothing but a wonderful experience. All instructors are very knowledgeable. Front desk staff is very helpful and friendly.
I’ve been a student at New Mexico Jiujitsu Academy for two years training in Wing Chun Kung Fu. Sifu Justin Hall is an accomplished martial artist and a consummate professional in his instruction. The facility is clean and well maintained in an easily accessed location, and all the staff are friendly and helpful. I was given a free lesson and a trial period, providing an ample amount of time to decide this was the gym I wanted to train at. The kids that I see leaving their class are polite, encouraging to the younger ones, and clearly having fun. NM JJ Academy cultivates a supportive environment among its students who train hard, challenge each other, and focus on the fundamentals of their style. If I had more time and energy to practice, I would be in the Jiujitsu and Muay Thai classes, too.
This is the only school in town that teaches authentic GRACIE Jiu Jitsu!!! The Gracie system prepares the student for the STREETS, not for the tournaments or the "demonstrations." I have been attending this SCHOOL since February, and I have a lot of good to say. First off, its a 100% positive atmosphere! All the coaches are nice, no intimidation, no bullying, and certainly no "next big thing fighters" that roll their eyes at you because you may be "interrupting their camp." No Cobra Kai here! I've been to many different "Gyms," "Clubs," and "Dojos" in the ABQ area, and NMJJA is definitely a SCHOOL! They TEACH you with an actual CURRICULUM, and there are many Martial Arts to choose from (Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Wing Chun, Muay Thai, etc.). Its not a "Black Belt Club" where you come in off the street and get tapped out for an hour, and learn nothing (like teaching a drowning man how to swim). Its not a dojo that keeps people at yellow belt forever because "Well, that's how we do things." And its certainly not a place were you drill a random techniques, or mindlessly hit pads. ---> I've said enough, sign up today :) A++
My daughter and I have been going here for BJJ for a couple of years now. All of the instructors are incredible and offer unique perspectives. I appreciate so many things about the culture of this place. My kids love coming here, it's very family-friendly. I like the emphasis on self-defense and practical BJJ. Considering that we are routinely trying to choke each other, I think most people would be surprised by the very friendly atmosphere. :) :)
New Mexico Jiu-Jitsu Academy provides a welcoming, professional, and patient community of instructors and fellow students. The staff is very understanding of the need for work/life balance and does their best to be accommodating. I look forward to every class as one of the highlights of my day. My experience there has undoubtedly been worth the time and money, I only wish I started sooner.
Just moving to New Mexico I wanted to be part of "something" so I went and joined the New Mexico jiu jitsu academy. The instruction is on point and I am meeting great people along the way. Since joining Im now also doing Muay Thai kickboxing. Justin runs a great program. I love coming here it's my new second home.
I have enjoyed learning Jiu Jistu the Gracie way. The lessons are taught and explained well by Justin, Armando and Trey. All their personalities are awesome in different ways but the curriculum is very easy to pick up and understand.
Great facility and great instructors!!! It's like my second home.
I highly recommend New Mexico Jiu-Jitsu Academy! My 4 year old attends class there and is not only developing the physical skills needed but is also learning about responsibility, character and respect. The instructors are patient and truly display their desire to teach young children. I enjoy sitting and watching class in the comfortable atmosphere and feel like they focus on their students 100%. Thanks Justin, Matt & Trey!!
I’ve been training in Wing Chun Kung Fu for the better part of two plus years with SIFU Justin Hall. One of the best decisions I have ever made. He is highly skilled in the art and strives to teach each and every one of his students to reach for excellence. Unlike other schools my SIFU doesn’t elevate his students to the next belt unless it’s earned. Something that is definitely lost with other schools. Although highly skilled SIFU Hall puts his ego on hold in order to let his students know this is about them, not him. I highly recommend New Mexico JiuJitsu Academy to anyone who wants to train somewhere that teaches the proper techniques and respect for the arts and others. The programs are methodical in nature and “Do Not” stray from the basics. The school is clean, the staff is friendly and the instructors are helpful, knowledgeable and welcoming. A great place for individual or family training. I know when the day comes, and it will come when I achieve my Black Belt status, it will be truly earned. Thank you SIFU! Much respect!
The teachers at this school have done a phenomenal job of creating a learning environment where everyone is accepted to learn Jiu Jitsu, no matter who you are, what you look like, believe, or any of the other ways people can be different. The technique portion of the class is thorough and detailed, often focusing on a "series" techniques that pair well together, and there is a proper balance between the instructional period and live sparring. A reputable school is a clean school, and the large mat space and other areas of the school are kept spick and span. I highly recommend this school to anyone who is interested in martial arts, self-defense, or fitness. If you've never done martial arts, you can feel free to swing by and watch a class to get an idea of how things work.
This is a fantastic group of instructors!!! My son is in the youngest class and it is such fun to watch the young ones. They really stress the important values of Gracie Jiujitsu. I highly recommend for all ages!
Love this place. They are amazing with the kids.
I have been a student at the New Mexico Jiujitsu Academy for over three years. The Academy has some of the best instructors ive ever worked with and a training style that is both extremely effective and practical in real world applications.
I had trained for 2 years in different MMA style gyms and never felt that I received a foundation in basic Jits skills. Once I made the move to NM Jiu Jitsu Academy, I knew I had found the place I needed to be. The structure of the Combatives classes is top notch and you get to learn from 3 highly skilled black belts in the Gracie and Machado systems. You will not find a better dynamic at any gym.
Justin teaches both my son and myself, in classes and privately. He is a great teacher - one of these guys who is so calm and mellow and confident in his skills that he just oozes capability. I love the approach - for both. He's not a drill instructor and this isn't Cobra Kai, because this is the real world, and we want to learn and enjoy what we're doing. He has a real focus on the practical application of jiu jitsu both in sport and in real life. And best of all you know he really, really knows what he's doing. This is a fantastic school, one of the nicest facilities I've seen anywhere, and I saw a bunch before choosing this one. The people here are all great, and it feels like you're a part of a family. I can't recommend it more highly.
Excellent school to learn Gracie Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. The instructor is excellent and professional at the classes he teaches. The school has a amazing family-friendly atmosphere and the students are great to get along with. As a affiliated student for 5 yrs, I've had a great experience learning both Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai, and how it taught me the art of Self-Defense as well as discipline. I would highly recommend this school to anyone looking to learn self-defense.
I've been to a few martial art schools over the years and this is one of the best! The instructor is fantastic, the people are great and Jiu Jitsu is absolutely the best! Learning JJ is one of the best things I've ever done for myself. I highly recommend New Mexico Jiu Jitsu Academy!!!
If you are interested in learning Jiu Jitsu, this is the place to go. And this is the only school in New Mexico that is certified by the Gracie Academy. New Mexico Jiu Jitsu Academy offers a safe, clean environment for learning this form of martial arts. Whether your desire is for fitness, self defense, or just to learn something new, this academy offers a program that allows students of all ages to attend multiple times per week. This is a program that can be started and continued at any age, with students ranging from kids to seniors. As a result, you can progress at your own pace in a comfortable non stressed environment. The other students are friendly and supportive. Owner/Instructor Justin Hall is a great teacher; he provides the right combination of knowledge, technical expertise and motivation for all ages and experience levels. He takes special interest in each student and is genuinely interested in their success. I have been taking Jiu Jitsu at this Academy for over two years and have been completely satisfied. This is the only program I would consider training at in Albuquerque.
I have been training with Justin for 7 years. I really like the fact that he teaches the actual arts. A lot of places teach Jiu Jitsu and Kick Boxing, but they are modified for MMA. At the New Mexico Jiu Jitsu Academy, you will learn Gracie Combative Jiu Jitsu. The curriculum was setup by the family of Grand Master Helio Gracie and is the purest form of self defense Jiu Jitsu. We also learn authentic Muay Thai. Justin learned Muay Thai from Ajarn Chai Sirisute. He brought Muay Thai to the US in 1968 and is the President of the Thai Boxing Association. If you are looking for a place to train, I highly recommend the New Mexico Jiu Jitsu Academy. It is a beautiful clean facility where you will learn the correct techniques and nuances of Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. It is a classy school where lessons are taught in a methodical and respectful way. I plan on training here for the rest of my life.
Best place to learn Jiu Jitsu the way Helio Gracie intended it; as a form of self defense! The instructor, Justin Hall, teaches both kids and adults in positive environment and has developed an atmosphere where any age and ability will feel comfortable. My son was having difficulty in school due to constant bullying and harassment. By learning and employing the techniques he learned from Justin, he is now confident and excelling. I can't recommend this school highly enough based on our experience there.
A couple years ago I was looking for best place to learn true Helio Gracie Jiu Jitsu to learn self defense and I found that at the New Mexico Jiu Jitsu Academy! Great school!
Very bad communication from the lady that works the front. She never gave us a copy of a contract she had us sign at the beginning of our sons first class. We didn't have time to read it because class was starting. She also never explained what exactly we were signing after knowing we hadn't had the time to read the contract. Since a copy was never given, we never read the contract we had signed until my boy decided this was not the kind of martial arts he wanted to do. We go in to cancel and that's when the copy of the contract was given to us saying we have to pay $250 cancellation fee! If we were not rushed to sign the contract and given a copy in the first place, then we would have been able to read what we had signed and cancelled before the trial ended. The trainers were very good and I have no complains on their behalf. Although I feel like we were scammed into signing something we were clearly, unfairly, not given the fair chance to read. Why didn't she give a copy in the first place? So we can't read what we signed and get screwed in the process? I even noticed it said, I herein and acknowledge receiving a copy of this document for my records. I signed it, she didn't give me a copy, in fact, she gave me the original one AFTER we decided to cancel a month after the trial ended. I swear I asked her about a contract and she said nothing of one even though that's exactly what I was signing! Don't bother asking the lady questions because I don't think she even knows what's on the contract she's giving you to sign. She said we can take our boy out any time at no charge! They say it's heirsay because we don't have no proof of this situation, but they have my signature!
