This is a great gym. My son has been coming to this gym for almost a year. He’s now 10 years old and a gray belt and competed in two different tournaments and absolutely loves the coaching staff and the team. It’s also great for making friends.

I’ve been taking my boys here for about 3 years. I watched my youngest start at age 3 (now 6) and I was skeptical of the sport initially, but watching him grow into the athlete that he is has been an amazing journey. His older brother watched him grow and also decided that this was the activity for him as well. So a parent’s dream come true to have a sport that my 6 and 13 year old can attend simultaneously. Professor Daniel Souza and his family have run this gym with an amazing amount of heart. My boys love coming when they can and there are plenty of class options to choose from. I hope this gym is around forever and I can’t wait to watch my boys grow with the rest of the gym. A great place for everyone.

This is by far the best jiu jitsu place ever! I recently became interested in jiu jitsu and have only been going for less then a year however I already see great improvement in many things such as my health and the very skill itself. The whole gym is like a family and everyone is so caring for one another. I have a younger brother who have been doing jiu jitsu for a couple years now and he has learned much more compared to the gym he used to go to. Love love love this place so much!!

This place is a great place to take your kids. If you are looking to make your kids tougher and stronger, this is the place for you. It is also a great family environment for all ages. The staff are extremely nice and will help you every way they can. The teaching is strict, but it teaches better character and makes you want to try harder.

The entire Carlson Gracie team lead by Professor Souza, their patience and depth of knowledge is fantastic and encourages people to build an excellent foundation and work hard, whether you want to compete or not. Hands down the best Jiu Jitsu gym in town!! The Professor and all the coaches are amazing with the kids, teens and adults. In only 5 months our children have grown so much in the sport and have already competed in three competitions. It has not only been a great outlet but has improved their confidence, resilience, discipline, commitment, respect, good habits, socialization, and so much more. All the kids get along great and have really become a team. We have also met some really awesome people and the gym has been a very welcoming community. The professors are very knowledgeable, attentive and great motivators. The Jujitsuka training here are extremely friendly and focused to bringing up the skill of the academy as a whole. I was in town for the day and set out looking for a school I could drop in on. After looking at all the gyms in town this was the only one with a morning class. When I called Professor Souza he invited me in and made me feel very welcome. He taught a great bow and arrow sequence that worked great when I tried it at open mat back home. Great gym and he has forgotten more about BJJ than I will ever learn. I highly recommend this business.

This is the best Jiu Jitsu academy in the state of New Mexico my kids been with Professor Daniel Souza since he came from Brazil he is not only our professor he is our brother he doesn’t only show my kids Jiu Jitsu he teaches them values morals and how to be a better person on and off the Matt my kids where not born champions but Taught how to be a champion how to act like a champion and how to fight like a champion. My experience in this gym so far has been wonderful, Profesor Daniel Souza shows care for his student's and I truly feel his intention to teach the art to be in good faith. The camaraderie is very family oriented which is not found often with commercial gyms. When it comes to practicing technique and sparring with my fellow comrades there is no ego involved at all. We take into consideration when someone is going through discomfort or when it's someone's very first day, week, and month training. Also, It is great to see Profesor work with the children specially the advanced colored belt kids that have been training with him for years. Shows he is well respected and if given the opportunity to teach, he doesn't disappoint. Give Profesor Souza gym a try you will not be disappointed.

I’m thankful my friend told me about this Brazilian Academy. The training environment is second to none. The team is more like a family. We all genuinely care for each other. I competed in a tournament with only 4 weeks of training BJJ. The whole team was cheering each other on the whole weekend. I have known Daniel Aka- Coyote since 2016 and he is an exceptional BJJ professor. Everyone at the gym is there to train, have fun, and is welcoming to anyone who shows up. There is no ego in this gym nor does Daniel condone that attitude. I began jujitsu without any martial arts background. You do not have to be in "shape" to begin BJJ and you train at your pace. Highly recommend!!!!

*** update*** 28 Aug 22 They moved a few months ago to a different location in the mall. It was a good move for them and increased their capabilities. Biggest downside is that they are not able to effectively manage their customers. We tried to pause our tuition due to being gone over the summer. We tried 3 separate times and were still charged. The actual instruction is good, management should focus on getting the details to prevent customer frustration. Good place for your kids to train. I like that they instill discipline when teaching the kids. Super friendly staff and we are happy with the service

My kids enjoyed the team. The teaching style is different compared to other gyms around Albuquerque. In my opinion there needs to be more coaches helping the kids learn. During the year my kids were at this academy, it was usually just the head coach teaching the entire group of kids. I feel like my kids learned more techniques at home rather than in class because of the lack of coaches. The prices are fair for the amount of classes that are available. Overall a good academy to attend.
