I've trained at a few different schools historically and I have been training here for over a year. Classes are divided into beginner and advanced belts. There is a clear structure and cadence to the learning that progresses you from the basics to more advanced systems. At an advanced level, each month is dedicated to offense and defense in a new position (back, mount, half guard, leg locks, side control, etc). The instructors clearly put time into lesson planning and keep it interesting. The final half hour of each class is application of principals to live rolling with quality folks of all levels. This is an excellent place to develop your skills.
My son 12yo just got his first stripe! He's enjoying the class very much. Great instructors!
Training at CMJJ has been an incredible experience! Under the guidance of Professor Armando, my Jiu-Jitsu game has grown tremendously over the last few months. His emphasis on fundamentals has given me a solid foundation, improving my technique and overall confidence on the mats. The coaching staff is top-notch, and the atmosphere is welcoming, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned practitioner. If you're looking to level up your Jiu-Jitsu in a supportive and high-quality training environment, this is the place to be! Highly recommend!
I am so grateful to have found this wonderful place to learn Jiu-Jitsu. The instructors are impeccable in the personal and encouraging delivery of this art that develops their students at a rapid but appropriate pace. I cannot give enough stars!! Thank you!
Very professional staff, welcoming atmosphere, would highly recommend for any age
I moved here from South Carolina nearly two years ago and was looking for a new place to train. I tried out a few schools and none of them felt like the right fit. On my first day at Carlos Machado I knew that I had found the right place! From the quality of the teaching to the quality of character present in each individual including the coaches one would be hard pressed to find a better place to train. Not only will you develop your jiu-jitsu skills but you will learn discipline and respect that will be carried with you both on and off of the mat. If you’re looking for a place to continue your training or just starting for the first time Carlos Machado is perhaps the finest you will find.
This is from Miranda and I. 😁😁 Best Jiu Jitsu gym
If you want to learn BJJ with a training staff that truly cares about technique and application. This is the place to go. This isn't a place trying to grow membership counts, it's a place trying to grow a community. I would highly recommend this place whether you are new or seasoned to jiu-jitsu.
I have been coming here for 3 1/2 years. I love it, the instructors are amazing and it is a nurturing community with amazing people.
Hands down the best place to learn BJJ! The instructors are extremely knowledgeable, thoughtful, methodical, and intentional in all their teachings. This gym has a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere that caters to a diverse group of individuals. I feel so empowered after every lesson, and I attribute it to the Carlos Machado community for their relentless work towards delivering high-quality instruction. I would highly recommend this gym to anyone who is looking for quality self-defense classes and a supportive community of learners.
Carlos Machado ABQ is an amazing place to train. They have amazing coaches and people there. Highly recommend
I’ve been coming here since November and absolutely love it! The instructors are patient and explain things very clearly. They help you scale up at your pace but also push you. Also the people who attend are awesome! Especially as a woman, it is great to feel welcomed and comfortable in the community
Awesome people here at CMJJ, including the instructors who are great at explaining the moves. Overall, it's a great atmosphere with great people!
This is an amazing Jiu Jitsu school. Each of the instructors are knowledgeable and overall great people. The entire CMJJ community makes this a special place. Wish I had started sooner!
CMJJ is awesome and they take such good care of their people!
Great place to train, very friendly enviorment!
This is an amazing gym and very welcoming to women. Every coach there has something amazing to offer! There is a lot of variety including gi, nogi, Muay Thai, judo, and Wing chung.
I come in from out of town and have been able to drop in quite a few times for different classes. I’ve been able to have classes taught by Joe , Anthony , and Armando. All the instruction has been great with how they all teach differently but the same. The school as a whole has been very welcoming. It is a cool place to come and learn. Would bring my children and have recommended for my friends and family. who live in Albuquerque
Glad to call this my gym! It's a clean atmosphere and I encourage anyone interested to try it out. I've been here for a little over a year and always look forward to class.
I wish I started at this place for training BJJ earlier. I feel welcomed and they always try to help each other out. This is a great place to start, to train, to be the best in BJJ.
CMBJJ a great choice for anyone thinking of trying out a new martial art. I’ve been training here for well over a year and I’ve been loving it here. Love the team and how friendly the environment is!
CMJJ is the perfect place to go if you want to learn self defense. Come here. Come train. Don't mess around. And watch your life begin to change. The hardest part is showing up, but once you do, it's hard to leave!
I’m over 50 and I was nervous just making the call. Been there for over 6 months now. From the beginning, the entire crew and students have made me feel at home. I knew nothing about Ju jitsu walking in. It’s been a life changing experience for me. I would highly recommend trying it out.
I've trained at several gyms, and the people and atmosphere here just make it feel like home 🏡 Great place for self defense based jiu jitsu
Great people and great instructors! Very welcoming and understanding for new comers and they make you feel like you can succeed at BJJ even though it can be intimidating and awkward to start. Another bonus is that Anthony and Joe are great with the kids classes! They challenge and encourage them to grow while having fun and giving insightful and helpful direction. Definitely the place to go to for learning and growing in BJJ in ABQ no matter what level you're at!
