Awesome gym to train at, came for a drop in class and the instruction from Coach Nick was really good. I had some good rolls with the students showing good jiu jitsu and I enjoyed the welcoming environment of the academy.

Nick taught for a brief time at Queens Jiu Jitsu in Astoria Queens and left a big impact on myself and my training partners Amazing attention to detail and very effective positional training. Very attentive to students and their specific needs. Stayed for open mat and rolled with various students. Students willing to go hard and students there for some fun light rolls.

I thought I was joining the BJJ gym to learn self defense (and boy did I learn and used it—story for another time), but instead I got a new family. We have gone from strangers to families that take care of each other even outside of the gym. The instructors at Monarch are extremely detailed oriented with their instructions and patient with newbies like me, who has no background and way past my prime. But if you trust the process, you’ll see huge improvements once you put in the work. The instructors are active competitors in the tournaments themselves so you are not getting outdated stuff. My wife even tells me I am nicer and more patient since I started at Monarch, lol!

Monarch has been a wonderful experience for our family! Our 3-year-old attends the children’s classes, and we’ve been so impressed with how much he’s learned in such a short time. The coaches strike the perfect balance of patience, kindness, and discipline. It’s clear they genuinely care about each child’s growth and development.
