McHugh Cherry Hill is an incredible place to train. Coach Russ and Chief are some of the nicest, most down-to-earth people you’ll meet, and they’ve created a training environment that feels safe, supportive, and welcoming. Coach Russ has a great eye for detail and truly cares about his students’ growth. Training jiu-jitsu here is not only fun, but also a great way to build resilience, strength, and confidence. It’s a fantastic community and a great place to learn!

I started taking Jiu Jitsu classes here roughly a month ago. The environment is awesome — welcoming students & coaches, clean mats, and a strong curriculum. Overall an amazing experience.

Our sons, 12 and 7 years of age, had the privilege of attending the first Junior Sharks class on opening day at the McHugh Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Cherry Hill location, and we just want to tell ALL of Cherry Hill that we, as a community, are extremely blessed to have this world-class jiu-jitsu school right in our own neighborhood. The owner and lead instructor, Coach Russ, is a former teacher who is living proof of how transformational jiu-jitsu is: body, mind, and spirit – ask him about it! He is truly passionate about sharing this life-changing martial art with people of every age, and he was many years of experience doing just that. I myself have benefited tremendously from Coach Russ’ teaching and encouragement in my own journey. He is a proven and skilled practitioner, gifted at breaking down techniques, highlighting key nuances that make a world of difference, and communicating in such a relatable way. During last night’s Junior Sharks class, Coach Russ engaged wonderfully with the kids, giving clear instructions, asking them questions, and giving them opportunities to succeed. Coach Kelly and Coach Chris (“Chief”) comprise the All-Star team on staff with Coach Russ, providing smiles, positive energy, and great patience as they assisted the young students. You can tell that the kids were genuinely learning, being challenged, and also having tons of fun! I was additionally impressed by how well-paced the class was – they were able to do a lot without it feeling rushed at all. From warmups to the standing game to groundwork to randori, it was an incredible time. I would also be remiss if I did not mention that the facility is newly renovated and absolutely glowing. There is a huge lot with plenty of parking spaces, and there are also many great places to eat nearby (on every corner of Route 38). Bottom line, Coach Russ is following his calling and doing what he was created to do. This place deserves a chance to grow. McHugh BJJ schools are known for not just high-quality jiu-jitsu, but also for an extremely supportive, non-intimidating, welcoming environment. It starts from the top down, nurtured by Professor Pete and all the amazing McHugh instructors in each site, and the tribe continues to grow and thrive because our students embrace and live out that mindset. I had trained with McHugh BJJ 2019 thru 2020 when COVID shut down the world. I stopped training. I always loved the training and when I heard Coach Russ was opening McHugh BJJ Cherry Hill, I knew it was time to get back. The depth of instructors at McHugh BJJ from Professor Pete McHugh down provide and accepting, welcoming environment to train in. From kids up to adults McHugh BJJ is the premier BJJ academy in the area! The first step onto the mat is the hardest but Coach Russ will make it worth it and you’ll wonder why you did not start sooner!

Amazing place and would provide 10 stars if I could. My son love the place and I finally got back to training on regular basis after over 8 years of back and forth. Coach Russ and other professors are patient with kids and super supportive so they can have confidence learning and improving. The entire school is welcoming and will treat you like family as well supporting you as you learn. I’m now excited that my wife wants to start training as well. I recommend this school 1000%!
