Maximum Martial Arts has been a wonderful experience for our child. Instructors strike a nice balance between keeping things fun while teaching discipline and skills. It's a supportive, encouraging environment that motivates students to perform at their best.
Posted 11 months agoGreat instructors. They teach about physical and mental strength, important life lessons and self defense. Love the new location, so much more room for the kids to kick and punch. Always Strongly recommend. Give them 2 👍
Posted 1 year agoMy three kids and I have been training at Maximum for about four years and we’ve experienced most of their programs—Lil’ Dragons, juniors beginners, juniors advanced, adult martial arts, and kickboxing. Three of us will test for our black belts in September, so clearly we’re committed and biased. But my goals for this review are to 1. Brag on Team Maximum, and 2. Help you determine if Maximum is a good fit for you and your family. The curriculum at Maximum isn’t steeped in any one tradition. Instead, members get a broad foundation in both grappling and striking—sport and self-defense. In a typical class, participants might work flexibility, review technique, sweat it out on the bag, do partner combo mitt work, play out self-defense scenarios, and spar. There is a strong influence from Bill Superfoot Wallace, the undefeated kickboxing champ who leads a seminar at Maximum once a year, but generally I’d categorize what we do as modern mixed martial arts. That being said, in the kids’ program an appropriate amount of time is allocated to teaching values like respect, discipline, and courage. Another more traditional aspect of the culture is the junior assistant program that one of my sons participates in. Once a month one of the staff gives these tweens and teens practical training on topics like pad-holding, how to make a praise-correct-praise sandwich, and the importance of using students’ names. It’s very very cool to see my son learn teaching skills and get the kickback of helping others grow, and he looks forward to assisting the instructors in his Lil’ Dragons class every week. Overall, Maximum excels in creating an environment where students feel supported and challenged, and it’s my impression that everyone, staff, students, and parents, feels ownership of the community. I know I do. Shout out to Master Ginter, Master Dylan, Ms. Jocelyn, Ms. Nicole, and all the assistants. See you in class Wednesday!
Posted 1 year agoMaximum took me by surprise with a warm welcome and professionalism. As soon as we signed up online for their free trial, we were welcomed by Jocelyn with a folder of information and free waterbottles. She gave us a tour and even had the kids break a board by the end of their first class. Maximum's instructors continue to be professional, caring, and go out of their way to assist the kids that need a little extra help. The extra curricular events they offer are just the cherry on top. I am extremely impressed by this facility. It is clear they have clear and smooth running systems and processes in place. This is the place to take your children! Couldn't recommend it enough!
Posted 1 year agoMy girls have been taking classes at Maximum Martial Arts for a few years and love it! I took a chance on a Mother's Day themed kick boxing class and ended up signing up for a 6 week course! The classes are hard but I really enjoy them. I have been an indoor cyclist for the past 3 years and after the first few weeks of kick boxing, I have seen amazing progress while spinning! My overall mileage has gone up 2 to 4 miles per class and the overall power has also gone way up. I can tell the classes have had a very positive impact to my overall fitness! I would absolutely recommend kick boxing classes at Maximum! Thank you Master Dylan, Master Ginter, Miss Jocylen, Miss Keyana, and Miss Nicole for helping me and my girls on our journeys!
Posted 1 year agoI moved from Glendale to Flagstaff for college and had to leave a studio that I had been teaching at for years. I knew once I moved to Flagstaff that I wanted to continue my training and teaching. I found maximum martial arts and to say that I love it is an understatement. Kayla and Dylan are amazing individuals and made me feel so welcomed on my very first day back in November. Being able to watch them teach has helped me SOO much not only with my confidence, but with every aspect of inspiring young kids. The environment is so positive and I am so grateful to be apart of such a wonderful crew. Having incredible instructors like these two have made this new journey of my life so exciting just to see what the future holds. The way they uplift the classes and motivate the kids is awesome and I couldn’t be more grateful to be learning from them!
I really enjoy maximum martial arts because of the strong message they send of doing the right thing, working hard, encouraging each other to be the best version of themselves. What I appreciate is that the owner applies these ideals to his classes as well as all of his staff members. This is a great place for all ages.
BEST MARTIAL ARTS STUDIO BY FAR IN FLAGSTAFF!!! I joined Maximum probably about four years ago I was extremely shy, quiet, and had little to no strength. But Maximum has helped me with everything I’ve gone through threw out my life. Maximum gave me self confidence and lots of useful skills I am going to use throughout my life. Everyone of the instructors are great with adults and children alike it doesn’t matter your age.
I took advantage of the free self defense class. I learned so much from this class and it made me feel very empowered and confident. The environment was friendly, educational and welcoming. Everyone there was so kind. This class is the reason I will be taking more classes with them. I would recommend them to anyone wanting to learn, get a workout, have tons of fun and make friends!! Thank you so much for the experience and making me feel welcome <3
This Martial Arts Studio is wonderful my experience at this location. The people are very kind and the instructors are very caring and easy to talk to.
This place is top notch. They are fantastic with the kiddos while maintaining discipline and respect. Huge shout out to the staff. Enroll your little one here. You won't be disappointed.
Best martial arts in flagstaff!!
Maximum Martial Arts has been teaching the life skills, knowledge, manner and many important things to my children. During the pandemic MMA didn’t give up, instead they encouraged the kids keep working on their skills and go forward. As a single parent it wasn’t easy sometimes to pay and take little ones to class but it worth it! I appreciate Master Ginter and all amazing instructors.
This school year our 5 year old had his first run in with being bullied. It sounded like the wild west of a playground where it is simply impossible for adults to have eyes on all the kids. He shared that another child was tackling him and trying to hold him down. The teacher came upon the boys already tussling and was only able to report that to me. We talked with our son about getting help from an adult should happen again. The next day the boy did the same thing, but was even more physical trying to choke. Our son recounted beaming with pride, "Mom I was able to use my martial arts skills of 'break away' before he could choke me and ran to the teacher for help!" It was almost like he was reading my mind because I'm thinking what else did he do.😬 He added, "Don't worry I didn't use any of my kicks or punches on him." 😂 He had a few more run ins with this child, but eventually it stopped. For our son being anxious these episodes actually didn't phase him one bit. I know I have Maximum to thank for that! We have been there for one year and look forward to many more!
Definitely was a great experience I think all woman should take this self defense class
I don’t know how these instructors do it, but they have patience of a saint. Must be 20 kids in class and it is well organized. Parents get your kids into the little dragons and watch them grow.
My daughter started a few months ago and her instructors are so patient and understanding, and have really helped to teach her discipline along with her martial arts. I love how Maximum truly cares about their students!
Went to their Women's Self Defense Seminar, and I learned a lot! Really appreciate that they give to the community and offered it for free. Was very informative and professional. They made sure we were comfortable through out the class, and I will definitely be looking into taking more classes.
Maximum Martial Arts is AMAZING!!! My boys love going to their classes, and learn something new every time! Every teacher is amazing: they are kind and encouraging to the kids, but also hold them accountable for their own learning, and are firm. Questions are answered quickly and they go above and beyond to meet every family’s needs. This is a wonderful, family oriented business that is done right!! The adult classes are also spectacular...no matter what your expertise level is, they are there to help you meet your goals. I would highly recommend Maximum Martial Arts to everybody!
Maximum is amazing for beginners and experienced individuals. I had an amazing time learning kickboxing here.
Maximum has continued to be such a positive force for my 10 year old daughter, even during this pandemic. The teachers are truly incredible and have stayed connected and so positive! The measures they have taken to allow some people to attend in person classes go beyond anything else I have seen, and our family appreciates the flexibility of attending in person or via Zoom.
If you are looking for a place to get fit, stay in shape, learn fantastic martial arts skills, and make amazing friends along the way, then I highly recommend Maximum Martial Arts. My only regret is that I did not start sooner! The Krav Maga classes have led me to become a more confident person, and the Kickboxing classes have kept me in tip top shape. The staff are all friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. Class sizes are the perfect size to ensure some one-on-one instructor time in every class, but also large enough to present multiple partners for any partner drills. Even during the Covid19 era, Maximum has been at the forefront of providing instruction via Zoom and Facebook Live. If you're in Flagstaff and want to empower yourself, go check out Maximum Martial Arts. You won't regret it!
I cant say enough about Jim and all the instructors here at Maximum, they are all awesome! They are great with kids, very family oriented and do alot for the community! I joined kickboxing and absolutely love it, it's so much fun, I've lost alot weight and feel so much better getting into shape!
Fantastic experience! I was lucky enough to to attend a FREE Women's Self Defense Class. Absolutely fantastic. Great training, great instructors. Thankful for this opportunity. Excited to come back for different classes!
Thank you to Maximum Martial Arts for contributing to the community by holding a fantastic free woman’s self defense seminar. Master Ginter and all of those who volunteered their time were extremely knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely concerned about the well-being of each student.
My son is in the lil' dragons class and it's been a great confidence booster for him. The instructors are patient but firm with the kids, and the kids respect them because of it. I also had the pleasure of joining the free women's self-defense seminar on Saturday. In three hours they were able to teach us very valuable life saving skills, and gave us the most realistic scenario training possible. I left the seminar feeling prepared and confident. I can't say enough great things about the team at Maximum. They're AMAZING!
Mr. Cameron did an outstanding job hosting my son’s birthday party, it was a great venue! We also enjoy our weekly classes so much!
I've never written a review and can't think of a more deserving business. Having trained at Maximum for more than a decade, I've never been disappointed. Jim is a true martial artist and a great person. Whether you're traveling through town on your way to an MMA fight or exercising for the first time in your life, you are not only welcome but the Maximum team will make sure to help gear the workout to your level. I'm honored to be a part of the Maximum family and look forward to my kids and myself continuing our training there.
I joined this amazing place to get in shape July 2018 with a few girlfriends to keep us all accountable. This has been one of THE best decisions I have ever made. Some days are harder than others but it’s the best 45 minutes of my day (I try and go at least 3 or 4 times a week). Everyday I walk in there with a new goal and I do it. The staff is awesome. Each and everyone is motivating, caring, respectful and genuinely care about me and encoutage me to do MY best. Check Maximum out....you won’t be disappointed.
I recommend Maximum Martial Arts, hands down! The instructors are amazing with the children!! They are very patient with the kids and always respectful! We have had our daughter enrolled in the Lil' Dragons program and she absolutely loves it and shows improvement every week. She has also taken private lessons with Master G and was begging to take more. I can't say enough good things about Maximum. We sure will miss the program and the staff when we move!! Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to the kids of this community!!
I’ve never tried a self defense class before, and honestly, I didn’t expect to like Krav Maga at all. Jim, the owner, and the other teachers made the whole class so much fun, I’ve continue with training at this studio for over a year. Highly recommended ! Try something new - you just might be surprised !!!
I started last summer 2017, with a better diet and 3 times a week or more of kickboxing I have lost 30lbs and 3 pant sizes also I sleep better. Master G and all the instructors are incredible
My daughter loves her class. She had fun while learning. All the teachers are amazing with the kiddos.
I have been working out there for over 2 years now . Jim the master is a great instructor I love the Krav Maga classes we get to learn all kinds of technique, conditioning and cardio!! You should check it out if you are looking for a place to train and they welcome everyone and all ages!!
I have been going to MMA for almost 4 years. It is a great place to get fit and learn martial arts. Master Ginter is a great teacher and a great motivator. Anthony and Ben are also great. they have motivated me to lose weight, get in shape, and learn to defend myself. But don't let the family friendly atmosphere fool you, if you apply yourself here, you will become a martial artist.
I have two children that attend Maximum Martial Arts and we love it. The kids learn their form, self defense, board breaking, and great life skills. The instructors are firm, patient and good with the kids (from the little dragons on up to the Juniors). Definitely a great investment in our kids and worth the time and money!
My son really enjoyed learning self defense skills! The coaches are great. I only wish the other kids didn’t goof around so much during class.
The 3 stars on this review is completely irrelevant to this exact review, but is absolutely relevant to my other review for maximum. For this reason, I must stand by my original 3 star rating for this review. With that being said, I would just like to share that the new coach Nicole is awesome, she does really good with the kids. Her attitude and the way she explains and shows the kids how to do the moves properly …she is on point and we really like her!!
There are 2 reasons why I’m giving maximum 3 stars. Although i’d really like to give them 2 stars, I don’t think that would be fair. The 1st reason: is due to one of the coaches Kayla. The first issue we noticed at the beginning of class the kids were told if they do good they’ll play a game at the end of class. The same 2 kids would play around during class. Instead of properly handling the situation with the 2 kids, they continue to disrupt the focus of everyone else. Due to these 2 kids at the end of class all the kids get punished & are told to stand still for so long or do so many push-ups or Burpee’s. Keep in mind these kids are 4 to 7 yrs old. I have to now explain to my upset child why he couldn’t play the game even though he did everything correctly, and how this situation is not being handled properly. We complained a few times about this and nothing changed. My child has a true passion for martial arts, it upset him so bad he wanted to quit. My son and I explained the situation to Kianna. She was very sweet & understanding, asked how old he was & then suggested to move him to the junior’s class & that’s what we did. My son was happier and felt like he was back on track. Then here comes Kayla again, with her obvious chip on her shoulder for as young as she is. She seems to think it’s OK that if a few kids cannot hold a certain position like planks in the time that she wants, she will punish all the kids by making them do it longer. That is extremely wrong, every child is different & has different strengths in different areas. Another example: if your child doesn’t do as many sit ups or push-ups as she thinks they should in a certain amount of time, she will go as far as not passing them for their stripe test. Which to me is absolutely jaw dropping, especially when they have done everything they were told & it was done correctly. The absolute unacceptable thing Kayla does is demanding respect from these children. When they don’t yell yes ma’am, loud enough or yes ma’am after every time she opens her mouth they get punished. Kayla will make them do push-ups or sit-ups or whatever she feels like making them do. This is not how you earn respect from anybody!! Respect is not something to be taken lightly, is not something you can earn in a day, a week, a month or even a year. I don’t hear/ see things being done like this by the other coaches at this facility or at my son‘s other martial arts class. There are other parents that are not happy with Kayla as well, one parent told me “ I wish I had the balls to speak up like you.” Another parent has told me “ it’s crazy that we’re paying this much money for our kids to come to these classes and to be taught right and these are the things that are happening.” The 2nd reason: due to the issue that was brought upon by one of your employees. I have to change my child’s schedule around when he’s at your facility, we had to drop him down to 1 class & do a private class as a replacement of the dropped class. Although from one business owner to another, I’m happy that you’re able to up your prices for these classes. I don’t know how we were thrown into the mix of the new member prices. My son has been going to maximum non stop solid for over a year. He has never quit or took a break, and if he misses classes due to a vacation, he makes them up prior to our vacation. The more appropriate thing would have been…we have recently upped our prices but, due to this situation we will honor the original 1 class a week price. We were given a small discount from the new members fee but again, my son is not a new member. Keep in mind we did not change his schedule around because we wanted to, we did it because we had to!! Bottom line is, it is extremely important for me as a parent to make sure my child is in the proper setting while doing something he has an amazing passion for. I do appreciate Dylan & Jim (who both are awesome, excellent coaches) for helping out with this issue regarding my son & working with us on other options so that Kayla will no longer be a coach to my son.
