My autistic 11yo has been most welcome at Mat Shark over the last year. Very caring and understanding to his quirks both the team and the kids too. Extremely good value with flexible attendance. Gi and no-gi days ,weekly plans of training, to encourage understanding of techniques taught. Friendly compilation with a family atmosphere. Making social connections outside of school and having an enery outlet. Very happy we found them.
Excellent gym with amazing people and an incredible culture. I’ve only just started and was nervous at first, but everyone has been so warm and welcoming. The environment is supportive and motivating, and I absolutely love training here. My daughter trains here too, and the coaches running the kids’ classes are fantastic — patient, enthusiastic, and great with children of all levels. She absolutely loves it, and seeing her grow in confidence week by week has been incredible.
Absolutely enjoy training at Matshark. Experienced coaches and a great group with an understanding of how to approach new people. I highly recommend Matshark if you're looking at taking up grappling.
Starting at Mat Shark Jiujitsu three years ago was the beginning of an incredible journey. My experience here has been nothing short of great. The coaching team is excellent, providing deep insights into BJJ while also guiding us on how to train effectively and prepare for competitions. The best part about this gym, however, is the community. It is a completely ego-free environment where everyone helps each other grow. I have formed lifelong friendships on these mats, and I could not ask for a better place to train.

Owners Adam and Rian run an incredible gym. Their knowledge, patience and ability to break things down make learning both fun and effective. You can tell they genuinely care about everyone improving, no matter their level. All the coaches have been a huge help on my journey and are always happy to share tips, troubleshoot techniques and somehow make getting smashed feel like a valuable learning experience. The atmosphere at the gym is welcoming, supportive and full of good people who want to help each other improve. I highly recommend Mat Shark to anyone interested in the art of jiu jitsu, whether you’re brand new or have been training for years, you’ll feel right at home.
