Great gym in Seattle. Stopped in for a session while in for work, it was fantastic lesson, clean space, with a welcoming atmosphere. Check out my video (coming soon) of this gym (and others) on my instagram (@heykenners)

I trained here for several sessions while I was passing by Seattle and this place is a gem! The classes heavily emphasizes strategy and having an overall game plan, which stands out from other gyms. The skill level of everyone is also noticeably higher than many other gyms I’ve trained at. Everyone is very welcoming so there is a supportive atmosphere. I would highly recommend anyone looking to improve their game to train here.

I joined Mat Chess at the beginning of the summer to learn Muay Thai as I was new to Seattle, and boy have I learned! The people at Mat Chess have been so amazing to train with! You really get the chance to grow every single week as we get the opportunity to focus on different skills while still practicing fundamentals. The coach, Roy, has been doing Muay Thai for over a decade and has invaluable experience that he teaches from. He’s fast to point out your mistakes, but very encouraging to help you correct them — meaning as you learn, you grow! Every single session will leave you feeling invigorated with great cardio through striking drills, ab conditioning, and sparring. If you you’re looking for a Muay Thai place in Seattle, I’d atleast give this place a try (first class if free that’s how I got hooked hahaha).

I have nothing but positive things to say about Mat Chess. I joined primarily for BJJ. It has been a great environment that has pushed me to grow over a the last few months. Very welcoming. Great level of competitiveness and respect. Andrew and all the other coaches have been nothing but the best. They have a great thing going here and I believe that things will only get even better!

I joined Mat Chess 10 months ago and my experience there has been nothing but spectacular. Coach Andrew is kind, approachable, and cares deeply about the success of his students. Colored belts are generous with advice and their time, which creates a comfortable environment that is easy to learn in. I’m so glad I started jiu jitsu, but particularly glad I began my journey at Mat Chess. Thank you to Andrew and all my training partners who have helped me get better!
