My two boys (8 and 11) are in the kids program, and I train there as well. Marcelo's has been a fantastic place for our family. My kids absolutely love MABJJ and it's had a huge impact on their confidence, discipline, and toughness. The coaching for the kids program is extremely strong, with tons of individual attention and a culture that encourages the best aspects of martial arts. It's been amazing watching my sons progress from knowing nothing of jiujitsu to watching them roll with solid technique in just over a year. I can't praise MABJJ (and 'Coach Pete' who runs the kids program) enough.

I was in Seattle for a day so I dropped in their competition class, everyone was extremely polite and knowledgeable. Coaching was top level and class was great as it showed different variables to attack and defense. Will come back next time in Seattle!
I joined Marcelo Alonso last December 2022 and left July 2023 due to moving to Dallas and I would strongly recommend it for a plethora of reasons
1. The quality of teaching is top notch and classes are structured perfectly with many different options available depending on your schedule.
2. The vibe is competitive chill which in my opinion is the best combo that can get the best outta of ppl , keeping the art real in a safe friendly manner.
3. Perfect temperature , gym doesn’t get too hot or steamy and no gym bro’s suffocating people by cranking up the heat and closing the doors , as an asthmatic this was crucial to me.
4. Great group of competitors to hang around with and learn if you want that track.
5. Many sister schools around WA that you can drop at once a week if you want.
6. Parking is very manageable
Loved the place and would recommend it for beginners and seasoned athletes alike.

Training under the Encyclopedia of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a complete honor! You can’t get much better then that!
Very happy I decided to train at this school! Marcelo is a wealth of knowledge. He has taken my jujitsu to anther level. He is very generous with his knowledge. He takes time to show everyone how to make the techniques work for there body types. I feel that I am always having aww haa moments. He also has a great sense of humor and the atmosphere is light and fun. Aside from Marcelo himself the rest of the staff is very knowledgeable fun and welcoming. I am happy to be a part of this team and to have made so many great friends. I can't say enough good things about this place. It has been great having the brand new facility as well. The workout is second to none.
I have had my 14 year old now 16 year old boy training here for the last 2 years and the experience has been priceless. The change it has manifested in his life is truly remarkable, confidence, strength, discipline, hardworking, and social skills to boot. Marcelo and the rest of the team have taken him under there wing.
These people are the salt of the earth. If you live in the area and are interested in martial arts you should definitely check this place out.

As Behavior Analyst, the methods they use to teach their curriculum is impressive as it accelerates your techniques and understanding of the concepts! Marcelo Alonso and the other blackbelts target the areas that need improvement so that there are no flaws in this sport and they do it in style!

Awesome. Visiting Seattle, I took a morning class and it was taught by Marcelo, a real honor to learn from such an expert. His teaching is lively and driven. We covered 5 variations of guillotine, and 2 situational roles, instead of the usual 3 and 1 I'm used to. Then rolling for an hour. There are many skilled and friendly people here.

To sum it up in one sentence: Marcelo is a great teacher. Marcelo is funny, exact, knows amazingly much about BJJ and is an intense but cordially guy. If I was living in Seattle this would definitely be my school. To see if a BJJ professor is good you have to look at the students - which were all using precise technique, having not much ego and were very friendly.
