My son (8yr) started going here more then a year ago and I love seeing him enjoy the "gentle art". He was really afraid of it but after watching couple classes he decided to give it a try. Professor Keith really knows how to talk to kids and get them motivated and interested. I have joined recently myself and it been a highlight of my day. It really good schools and have a very supportive but straight and to the point teachings! It also does feel like a local team and it's great to see the kids/adults compete and support each other.
Posted 1 year agoBoth of our kids train at Tenzan Jiu Jitsu, and we couldn’t be happier. Keith is an exceptional teacher who creates a positive, respectful, and motivating environment for the students. The dojo emphasizes both personal growth and skill development, with opportunities to compete for those who are interested. It’s been great to see the team bring home so many medals—a testament to the quality of training and community here.
Posted 1 year agoTenzan Jiu Jitsu has literally helped my son grow into the confident, resilient, and down to earth young man that he is. Professor Keith has skills to teach Jiu Jitsu in an accessible way. And just as importantly he shows his students by example and through encouragement and meaningful conversations how to move through the ups and downs of competition and life while staying grounded and humble. The Tenzan community is also incredibly supportive and we have made lasting connections and friendships with parents and siblings.
Posted 1 year agoStarted out at this dojo a few months ago as my first time dipping my toe into martial arts. It’s been a fantastic experience—Keith Bookman is an excellent professor and he is engaging and fun. He is always down to pause for a moment to break things down and is invested in us learning the fundamentals and doing things the right way. And the community is fantastic! I’m always excited to go and train together with such a great group of motivated, kind, and inclusive people.
Posted 1 year agoOur whole family trains at Tenzan and we LOVE it. Our 11yr-old daughter has been training for 18 months now. She has a blast, all while learning to feel confident comfortable using her body and channeling her aggression. She enjoyed it so much, my wife and I tried it out 6 months ago and now we're hooked too - we both train multiple nights a week and are loving these "adrenaline date nights." Prof Keith is incredibly skilled as a practitioner and a teacher and we love being part of the community.
High quality instruction from a dedicated and gifted teacher. The atmosphere is very welcoming. The kids class in particular outshines other schools I have visited.
We have been going to Tenzan Jiujitsu since they opened the gym. Professor Keith is an amazing instructor, very kind to kids, and a great role model for my teenage kids. Jiujitsu makes you physically and mentally strong and improves focus and discipline. I love the Tenzan community. All the students and their family there are always welcoming and supportive. I highly recommend it here.
I love this place and all the people who train here. It has become like a second home to me and training here is always fun and helps me to improve
This is 100% the best jiu jitsu school in Seattle, with top notch instruction from Professor Keith Bookman. Children, teens, adults and vintage models (me!) receive close attention and guidance during every class. Whether brand new to martial arts or coming from another discipline, a great workout, competition training, self defense and more are available at Tenzan Jiu Jitsu.
This is a great Jiu Jitsu school. My 11 year old has been there almost 2yrs and likes training there a lot. Prof. Keith is an excellent instructor and really good at keeping the kids focused & learning.
Highly recommended! I've just started, with no experience, and it's great! The instructor is clear, classes are energizing and fun!
Fantastic Dojo and incredible Community!!! My kids joined in 2014 and have been practicing since. Professor Keith is great with children and the older kids are very kind, helpful and supportive of the younger ones. Love our Tenzan Jiujitsu Dojo!! Come give it a try!
Great school with an awesome instructor and positive learning environment.
I cannot express enough how grateful I am to have found this incredible Dojo in Seattle for me and my son. At Tenzan, The Bookman name brings with it a legacy in martial arts that is truly remarkable, and it is evident in every aspect of the children's program. Sensei Bruce Bookman's character is not only commendable but serves as an inspiration to the young minds under his guidance. His son Keith Bookman grew up in this exceptional children's program, practicing Jiu Jitsu with his father and brother. Through this he has acquired the natural ability and demeanor to work with kids and adults to make martial arts safe and enjoyable. What sets this Tenzan Jiu Jitsu apart is Professor Keith's remarkable ability to connect with the kids on a deeper level. I have witnessed him engaging in moving conversations, offering emotional support, and motivating the children to overcome difficult times. This aspect of the program deserves the highest praise, as it truly fosters a positive and nurturing environment. The entire Dojo and staff consistently receive compliments from both teachers and parents on their outstanding approach with children. The extraordinary camaraderie and community bond that form within the dojo are truly heartwarming. Watching the kids support and lift each other up, not only in classes but also in local tournaments, speaks volumes about the values instilled in them. Moving on to the adults' program, I, as a 48-year-old, initially felt a bit intimidated starting BJJ. However, from day one, I felt nothing but warmth and a strong sense of community. I can work at my own pace and intensity and develop my practice within my comfort zone. The support from Keith and the other adults has made every practice a highlight of my day and week. The atmosphere is not only fun but also fosters a supportive bond among the adults, making the journey enjoyable at every level. This dojo is more than just a martial arts facility; it is a place where warmth, support, and a sense of belonging thrive. I am grateful for the positive impact it has had on my son and myself. If you are looking for a place where your child can grow not just as a martial artist but as a well-rounded individual, and where adults are welcomed with open arms, this is the place to be. Highly recommended!
We adore Tenzan Jiu Jitsu. We started attending about 5 months ago, and it's such a warm and positive environment. My daughter loves it and wants to go every day, and I'm considering trying out the adult classes.
I started training at Tenzan Jiu Jitsu for a couple of months now. I had no prior experience in BJJ, and Professor Keith has always been extremely encouraging throughout my practice. I definitely feel a significant improvement in my movement and strength, and I'm always excited to come to class! I highly recommend this school for anyone who is new to the art (and also to those who have experience under their belt)!
I had an amazing experience at Tenzan Jiu Jitsu! The class with Professor Keith was fantastic, he is a knowledgeable and passionate instructor who made the class both fun and educational. The facilities are top-notch and the community is welcoming and supportive. I highly recommend Tenzan Jiu Jitsu to anyone looking to improve their Jiu Jitsu skills or simply looking for a positive and encouraging environment to train in. Thank you Tenzan team for an unforgettable experience!
