I dropped in on a Saturday visiting from Germany. I had a great reception from the team and trainer, Nick. It was also very easy to arrange everything with Nate via email. I look forward to visiting again over Christmas
Posted 1 year agoI started out here from white to black belt and I couldn’t have asked for a better family of martial artists and community to join. Truly some of the best Jiu Jitsu instruction in the world here, the level of camaraderie, community and family that I never thought I could receive at a gym. I have trained at many schools all over the world, and there is nothing that compares to MassBJJ. I highly encourage you to stop in and train here. You may never leave!

Very welcoming and relaxed environment to train, coach and staff were incredibly personable.
Patient instructors, clean facility, and variety of striking and grappling classes.
I stopped by here twice while in town for the holidays. Mass BJJ was incredibly welcoming, lots of people of all levels, and from what i saw, seriously knowledgable instruction. A great experience.
I had the privilege of training at Mass BJJ Acton for almost a year before I moved out to Los Angeles. Top-notch BJJ training environment for the gi and no-gi with very welcoming instructors and classmates! Nate and Scot were both phenomenal and lighthearted instructors that took their time to really explain techniques, positions, and their decision making process. The most defining characteristics that stuck out to me was how down-to-earth and goofy Nate and Scot were during all classes. It makes you feel at ease and relaxed. No ego at all. Don’t get me wrong — they will absolutely destroy you during the advanced classes, but it was fun having the chance to roll with both of them and feeling the huge difference in skill level. All the classmates there are friendly, too! If you go to the non-fundamental classes, you’ll have a great time rolling with the upper belts. The competition team was fantastic with Luis and Josh leading the way. Competition training was always fun and intense, but never out of control. Special thank you to Luis and Josh for taking time out of their weekends to come coach during competitions! You’ll have a solid competition team to go compete with. If you have the chance to learn from Pat and Nick during the weekend classes, I would highly recommend it! Learning from these two high level black belts is always a good time. If you get a chance to roll with them, even better! Be prepared to be effortlessly destroyed by them. Only had a couple chances to learn from Ed, but he was great! Very fun and welcoming! 10/10 would recommend this place. I miss this academy and everyone in it! You’ll love going here — trust me!
This is the best BJJ school in the state! The instruction is top notch and the people are like family.
Clean, organized, and kind. Great experience, would easily recommend to anybody.
Excellent diversity of highly skilled instructors. Their curriculum covers the entire gamut from BJJ fundamentals to advanced, kickboxing, MMA, movement classes and more. Extremely clean, organized and well-equipped gym space. The culture here is very positive and reinforcing for anyone from a beginner to an expert.
I’ve been training here since 2015 and can’t speak highly enough about the quality of training, passion of the instructors and warmth of the culture. After training at a number of different gyms in the Metro West area, Mass BJJ offers kids and adults the best all-around martial arts training. Everyone is friendly, knowledgeable and ready to welcome new faces from all backgrounds. 12 outta 10 would recommend.
I have trained here for years and have had a very rewarding experience. This is a well-run academy with grappling, striking and “no-gi” classes, in addition to MMA and fitness classes. Kids classes and women-only sessions are also available. The mainstay of the school is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which its founders each have been practicing for over 20 years. They have cultivated a great cadre of advanced students and assistant instructors that are wonderful mentors and training partners. I am happy to offer a 5-star endorsement!
I love Mass BJJ in Acton, it is been a great experience for me. My friends are awesome and the instructors are really committed to show us the art of Jiu-Jitsu
The short version: This is an awesome school. The instructors are great, the community is great, and the stuff they teach is real and useful. I've been coming here for four years for Jiu-Jitsu and kickboxing, even though I’ve moved far enough away that other schools would be easier to reach. This place is worth it. This school has a wonderful community. Everyone teaches eachother, they’re kind and welcoming, and they work to all skill levels. If you’re just getting into Jiu-Jitsu it’s a good place to start, and if you’re experienced, there’s tons of classes and upper belts that’ll give you the means and a reason to improve. This place is humbling. I joke that it’s my weekly dose of humility, but there’s such a depth and breadth of knowledge here, not just in the instructors, but in the other students, that you really can learn anything, if only you can find the time.
I have found the people who train here are very friendly and helpful. The Instructors give clear detailed instruction with a bit of humor. The classes are fun. I've been training for 6 yrs and this is my 3rd place and is the best as of yet. Mass BJJ has such a great vibe. Everyone is willing to help me advance and there are no oversized egos.
Despite the fact that before training here I had very little experience, was generally known to be a klutz, and was neither coordinated nor athletic, everyone at MassBJJ made me feel welcome from my very first day. Even after moving to another town, we still drive 40 minutes each way to go to this gym. People are very friendly and generous with their time to help me improve.
Mass BJJ is a great place to train. Welcoming and friendly from the first time you come in. Family friendly (I bring my kids in regularly) The instructors are top notch. Classes are a lot of fun, and the other students will welcome you and help you out, and everyone checks their ego at the door. I highly recommend Mass BJJ to anyone looking for a place to train.
I’ve been attending the fundamentals BJJ class and dabbling in kickboxing since the middle of March. It’s probably not hard to find a school that will help a newcomer put down a good foundation for their development, but where I've found Mass BJJ really distinguishes itself is how much emphasis is placed on a highly positive culture. From their first class, a beginner is made to feel welcome and surrounded by people who want them to succeed, regardless of how humble or lofty their goals are. This is a place where the community under its roof is held just as high as the technical growth of its members.
I love training here. Head instructor of the academy, Pat Barbieri, is a legend in the art of BJJ. It's great and my honor to be able to learn from an instructor of such caliber!
I will never be an MMA fighter. That's not why I go to class. But the best part of Mass. BJJ is that no one cares. I have never met a nicer bunch of people spanning all ages and backgrounds. And the instruction is top notch. There really is something for everyone here. If you have ever been interested in trying BJJ but, for some reason or other have been afraid to start, then this is the place for you.
Mass BJJ is awesome. The instructors are excellent - knowledgable, friendly, helpful, always willing to answer questions, and genuinely want to get to know you. The people who train here are a reflection of them. They'll introduce themselves, help teach you (despite the fact they're not the instructor), and are just all around nice people. I definitely had my apprehensions walking into a new gym, and to train in BJJ which I've never done before. But everyone makes that transition easy. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough. Hope this helps you get in there and train!
