Signing our kids up for Jitsu Academy was honestly one of the best decisions my husband and I have ever made as parents. Our son joined 5 years ago, and now all three of our children (12, 9, and 5) are taking classes. We have tried/are a part of so many other sports communities, and none of them compare to the atmosphere and bond that they share with their Jitsu Academy family, and I say family because that's truly what they have become. Parents, kids, and adult members are all so welcoming and kind, in the youth sports world you can find a lot of drama and there is zero at Jitsu Academy. The coaches are all incredible, they're patient, kind, and truly want your children to succeed both on and off the mat. There are (currently) two different age brackets for kids classes, 4-7 and 8-13 which works perfectly for achieving maximum learning/fun for both groups. There is zero pressure to compete at tournaments, but if the kids are interested they also offer an awesome competition class for the older kids that has really helped my sons take their training to the next level. The owner, Oswaldo Jurema, is a world champion in the BJJ world. He still competes in tournaments often, which is great for the kids to see/learn from. Team sports are wonderful, but jitsu being a 1 on 1 sport (when it comes to tournaments) has helped my sons' confidence tremendously, knowing that their hard work, time, and commitment to their training are the reasons for their arms being held high in victory after a match, and if it doesn't go their way they know what they need to work on and know they have a team of friends/coaches that will work on their individual needs to help them get there. I think sometimes these kids forget that they're learning a valuable life skill of being able to protect themselves, because they are having so much fun doing so. Classes are organized, the facility is clean, nice changing room areas for men and women, and there is plenty of seating for parents (siblings are always welcome to watch too and there's plenty of room for them to hang out). Training doesn't stop with youth classes, they also offer NO Gi, Capoeira, Striking, Women's classes (women are also welcome in all BJJ classes too), and so much more. Class times are convenient and offered both in the mornings and evenings, as well as weekends. It's great for all ages/stages, whether you're already in the BJJ world or are brand new. I couldn't recommend this place anymore if I possibly tried. If you're looking for top notch training, a great atmosphere, and an all around great experience that will travel with your kids (or yourself) for their rest of their lives, definitely check out Jitsu Academy CT!

Jitsu Academy is simply stellar. My 5 year old son started in the 4-7 year old kids class back in November and he absolutely loves everything about it. The instructors are patient, kind and incredibly knowledgable. The older students and other families are also extremely warm and welcoming to newer students/families. The culture of respect and supportiveness creates such a positive, well-rounded experience for the students. As a parent, it is a true pleasure to witness. We have, and will continue, to highly recommend Jitsu Academy to other kids and families!

I couldn’t recommend Jitsu Academy’s youth training more. The instruction and more importantly the instructors are all best in class and have created a great environment where children of all ages and skill levels can thrive. Because of their low student to instructor ratio, children receive a lot of individual and small group attention. My son has been enrolled for nearly 2 years and absolutely loves the instructors, classes and the bonds he’s developed with fellow students.

Amazing environment and excellent support from the staff and fellow students. I first got introduced to this school through one of the trainers there I was seeing for private lessons. He kept trying to convince me to stop by for his MMA Class for a while, and finally I did despite the 35 min drive. I haven't left since and also have taken up the Jiu-Jitsu classes. The fellowship and support you get at these classes are something you don't get elsewhere at other martial arts gyms. Highly recommend for the best workout of your life and support while you achieve it

I live in New Hampshire and reached out to train as a guest at Danilo Cherman’s gym while I was in CT for work. Danilo and everyone at the academy was very friendly. The gym is very clean. I attended the Advanced Gi class. Class consisted of instruction, drilling, and live rolling. Mr Cherman is a very knowledgeable and great instructor. Great atmosphere! Very technical and talented students. The advanced students will push you hard, but everyone was conscious of safety and helping each other grow and improve as martial artists. I would highly recommend anyone in the area to try a class. Grateful for the team for having me.

I've been at this BJJ Academy for about 4 months now, and I've enjoyed every minute of it. Our Coach Danilo Cherman is very knowledgeable in the BJJ Arts. His laid back style combined with his expert knowledge, make the classes fun but challenging. The school itself is very clean, the mats and facilities are well taken care of. I've gone to a couple of other schools with friends, but this is the first gym that i felt welcomed, safe, and happy to be at.

I have been training with coach Danilo and team for approximately a year and a half. The team is very welcoming and friendly. All the upper belts help push me to improve my game which is fantastic. Jiu Jitsu is a great means to get in shape too. If you want to learn a new art and get in shape, this is definitely the place to do it.

I started at Jitsu Academy two months ago and I'm addicted. It's a very welcoming atmosphere, which is great considering that I hadn't grappled since High School wrestling and was new to BJJ. There are no egos and the instructors are great. Everyone takes the time to make sure you understand everything being drilled, but at the same time push you to put 100% effort in and grow. The facilities are clean as well. I definitely recommend swinging by and trying it out. Worth every penny.

I’ve played sports my entire life, both contact and non. That being said, I wasn’t really into martial arts whilst growing up. I’ve just recently moved to Wallingford, and as such, I decided it was time to try something new and go outside my comfort zone. I’ve been at the Jitsu Academy for close to a month now and I have nothing but great things to say about Jiu Jitsu itsself, as well as Jitsu Academy. They’re extremely kind, and very welcoming to beginners. Training in Jiu Jitsu is one of the hardest/best workouts I’ve ever had, and you always leave there better than you walked in. It’s a great gym, the schedule is extremely accommodating, and always well-kept and clean. You will not be disappointed. I would recommend this to absolutely anyone.
