I was in town for a conference and stopped in here for a drop in class. The professors were so kind and my training partners were great as well. I loved every minute of it, I felt so welcomed and I cannot say enough good about this school and their program. Each coach cared about my Jiu Jitsu like I was an active student of theirs. If you live in the area I cannot recommend them enough. Thank you to the whole team for a great experience. Also I saw their kids program before my class. Top notch, if you’re going to train your kids in BJJ, this is the place to be.

Six Blades Carlsbad, it’s a great place to learn Brazilian Jijitsu. Professor, Joao Silva is an amazing instructor that teaches old and new school jujitsu. He has amazing black belts that also teach and help you understand the concepts of the class. This place has an awesome culture that is non threatening while still holding true to the ruggedness of jujitsu. This is my extended family!!

Such a great experience! Our kids have been studying with Sensei Joao for two years. It’s an amazing experience for all the kids and they’ve grown so much in discipline, strength, self confidence. The instructors and coaches have an excellent approach that balances high expectations with patience and consistency. I HIGHLY recommend this place. (First class is free and they get an outfit on day one which really makes it a good experience even if you don’t join!)

The class is taught by the greatest jujitsu expert in the US and that is not my opinion, he is the most winningest in the US tournaments that means he beat all challengers and got first place so many times that his walls are lined with his wins. He is a black belt sensei and is number one in his age bracket which is the age bracket that a sensei would be. Aside from that, he is great at teaching which is extremely important. Sometimes someone can be great at jujitsu but cannot translate that to their students. Not only can he expertly teach how to perform each move but he has found a way to transfer the intangibles such as strategy and making the opponent put themselves in a vulnerable position. He does not just focus on the ground game or the takedown, he focuses on every aspect of jujitsu. I don't mean that he's a jack of all trades in his teaching, covering all aspects of jujitsu. I mean he truly focuses on and targets each individual aspect giving you better jujitsu and if you stick with it long enough, mastery level jujitsu in all avenues. He is extremely humble and creates an environment where I have never seen anyone bring pride to the class. Even the children he teaches he immediately redirects their competitive nature into one of mutually beneficial training and practice. There is a major feel of camaraderie, teamwork, being part of something bigger than yourself, reverence for the art of jiu-jitsu and what it brings to our lives as well as a sense of family. It feels like everyone there wants to not only improve their jiu-jitsu but help improve the jiu-jitsu of others. I know that sounds like boilerplate camaraderie talk from someone who belongs to a martial arts class but it really isn't. Other classes lack this and while on the surface they might appear to have some of what I've mentioned, at the core, it's all about pride and personal victory. There is a serious difference here and that difference starts with the sensei himself and how humble and caring he is.

Update! My 9 year old daughter has been training with Sensei Joao for 4 months now and just challenged herself at her first tournament. She had no martial arts experience before joining his program and he was able to get her ready to use her skills to earn a bronze medal! More important to me is that her experience with Sensei Joao gave her enough personal strength and composure step onto those mats with enough confidence and respect for the sport so that she didn't get hurt - either physically or emotionally. Sensei Joao truly cares about his students and plays such an important role in their development. Win or lose, she knows what she is capable of doing and that this journey is all about learning and growing. That's a testament to a good teacher. Thank you, Sensei.

I am so grateful to have found this place. My 9 year old daughter loved her experience with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from the very beginning. Sensei Joao is a truly wonderful teacher. He is patient, supportive, and is able to appropriately challenge students so that they improve and feel confident about their progress. He was sensitive to my daughter's unfamiliarity with contact sports and helped introduce her to Jiu Jitsu in a way that makes everything fun. She went from knowing nothing at all to being able to roll with much more experienced students in a matter of a month. I've spoken to members of his adult classes who say that his strong teaching and concern for the well being of his students translate to a great experience for them, as well. Thank you, Sensei, for the hard work that you put in to make this place such a wonderful one for your students!

Have attended different BJJ schools in the states, Hong Kong, and Malaysia, including most recently, a growing Jujitsu school in Carlsbad California... Well, I can say good things about all of them, but nice things are different than good things. Good things are: clean, organganised, reasonably priced, etc... and Ribiero BJJ School is all of these things, but it is also an extremely nice atmoshere in which to learn. Nice things are a people thing, and it always starts with the Coach. You have to have cool, genuine people to train with, but the students will always follow the attitude of the coach. Coach Joao has a passion for this art, and also respects all other arts. Basically, he first respects other people, and that is what comes across and flows out into the whole class. This makes it a very comfortable place to practice and learn. As a teacher he is relaxed, but detailed, a very capable guy. I've been training here for the past 5 months. The instructor's passion for the art is extremely contagious. I started with little to no background in BJJ and wasn't sure if I'd like it. I would like to make a recommendation for anyone (kids and adults) that might be interested in putting on a martial arts class. I highly recommend Ribeiro Jiu Jitsu in Carlsbad. João is an excellent teacher and coach, the studio is clean and a great place to train and the students are all very friendly, welcoming and all about helping each other learn and improve. He is amazing with kids. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an amazing martial art, but finding the right place to learn and train can make a big difference. Me, my husband and my son take classes there and we love it!

After approaching multiple Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools in the North County area, I stopped at JCS Fitness Ribeiro JIu-Jitsu Carlsbad. It had been some time since I had trained, and wanted to make sure I was finding the right place. Joao was the first person to greet me. He let me borrow a kimono and try out a class. The people I met on my first day were very kind and welcoming. They all became good friends of mine very quickly. I never felt pressured to join the school after trying a class. The atmosphere was friendly and constructive. Joao has a knack for making the class informative and organized, while still maintaining a relaxed environment. The school itself is well maintained, both aesthetically and hygenically. Joao takes great pride in creating and maintaining a professional school for all. I stayed with Joao because of this, and so many other reasons. Overall, this school is top notch. If you are even slightly curious, give Joao a call.

João is a very knowledgeable trainer and spends lots of one on one time with every one to make sure his students are learning and progressing in a safe manner. He’s very patient and friendly to all of his students. This facility also holds Judo classes once a week. Highly recommended to guys and girls of any level. This is a great school which is just getting started. Joao, the owner and instructor is an excellent teacher who really wants the best for his students. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming to absolute beginners to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as well as those who are already training or have trained before. There is also a great judo class once a week, as well as capoeira classes.
