i currently train in arkansas and was visiting family when i decided to do a drop in to get some experience and rolls with new people. i was nervous but as soon as i walked in they welcomed me and i ended up doing 2 drop ins! the instructor was so friendly and attentive! the students were friendly and i made so many new friends! when rolling i didn't feel scared of injury and they gave me plenty of time to tap and the instructors made sure i got good roles and felt at home! next time i'm in town i'll be back! 100% recommend no matter what belt you are! have a great day!

All I can say is WOW! Our family was on the verge of signing up with another school and fortunately found Carlsbad Jujitsu just in time. The moment we walked in, we could feel the positive energy! While we’ve only just started with the school, it’s already been an INCREDIBLE experience. Aaron runs a clean, tight, friendly and fun ship. He knows all of the students by name, is super intentional with each interaction, and is just an all around amazing human. The sign up process is simple, the membership is affordable, and the requirements are flexible. Even every fellow member we’ve interacted with has been friendly, easy to talk to, and welcoming toward our family. The environment is absolutely beautiful, filled with respect, and the ratio of instructors to students they’ve chosen also fosters true learning. I could probably write a full 5 paragraphs on how impressed we are but I’ll spare you. 😄 We are so fortunate to have found Aaron and the Carlsbad Jujitsu team!

I've been training here for a few years now and I can confidently say that, at age 40, this is an excellent studio to train in. The instruction is great and the staff and students are respectful, caring and awesome. They have plenty of mat space and a suspension floor that is a dream to train on. We have quite a few competitive students and competitors but I feel the vibe here is more for hobbyists--working professionals that can't afford to get injured and want to train in a fun, friendly environment. They also have an excellent kids program and kids competition team. I highly recommend giving Carlsbad BJJ a try.

The vibe at the gym is wonderful with a wide variety students at different skill levels and sizes. The gym is impeccably clean with plenty of ventilation and mat space. ***2017*** Gracie Barra Carlsbad is the best jiu jitsu studio period. Professor Aaron, who runs it, is an incredibly positive person and a wonderful teacher. As a father to a daughter and son who both participate, I can't imagine a better, more family friendly environment. Hector, Elijah, Jay and the other coaches are terrific role models --patient, kind and excellent instructors with both adults and kids.

I began training at Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu about two and a half years ago. I started my jiu jitsu journey as a result of a great deal of encouragement from friends who train there. I was anxious at the beginning, having never been involved in any sport of this nature. I tend not to be an aggressive person and it all seemed so intimidating! I was so wonderfully surprised to be welcomed into the gym by the professors and those who'd been training there for years. From day one, I've been given so much patience and encouragement to stick with and to grow more with each session. Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu provides a positive environment for both newbies and those much further along on the journey. It also needs to be mentioned that there are several women who train there! This has certainly played a role in my desire to train and my comfort doing so. That said, the men I have trained with there have been incredibly respectful and kind, adjusting their training to my level and size. I have only positive things to report about this gym!

I am grateful to have found this place for my daughter. She loves training with her friends here and has really thrived in this focused but fun environment. Jiu Jitsu is a kinetic activity, but my daughter feels safe on these mats because everyone here is expected to be respectful and worthy of respect - which is key to maintaining an environment where you can trust each other. One of the reasons that we chose to come here was that this place allows for continual growth and development. The youth classes balance discipline, exercise, and play, there is a competition team for kids who are really excited about advancing, the adult classes feature camaraderie and skilled practitioners, and all who are interested are well prepared for participating in tournaments. I can see that she will be able to continue training here as she gets older which could be challenging for girls at many places. Additionally, all classes are well populated, which means that there are always enough training partners. Many of the kids that my daughter trains with have been coming here for 5 or more years - some of them with their entire families. That so many people have been loyal to this place for so long is testament to the relationships that they build here as well as to the strength of the programs they offer. Also, Professor Aaron, Professor Elijah, and all of the coaches are strong, patient teachers. I am impressed with the way that they structure lessons and provide valuable coaching with the goal of helping each student improve. The instructors know the members’ skill levels and personalities and take care to make sure that each person is challenged while remaining comfortable. It is this aspect of Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu that really sets it apart. I really do feel lucky that my daughter ended up here. Jiu Jitsu has become an important part of her personal journey and I trust these people to guide her.

I was in town for vacation and decided to drop in Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu. First, Aaron was a great communicator and responded timely. That was much appreciated. As for the gym itself, it was fantastic! You never know how welcome you will be as a drop-in but everyone was nice and receptive. The class itself was informative and instructive (taught by Elijah). Rolling/training afterwards was great and everyone was respectful and careful not to cause injury. Would definitely recommend for anyone in the area or visiting!

Carlsbad Jiu Jitsu is an amazing gym to train and such a great family atmosphere. My boys have trained here for 7 years and have grown so much as people and in the the sport. Aaron Collins has been an amazing coach mentor to them. The boys have won a combined 8 World Championships under his guidance and with his technique. They have become more successful in school and their other sports because of the lessons learned from Aaron. Aaron and his coaches treat the competition kids the same as they treat the kids just doing it for fun or to prevent bullying. I highly recommend this gym for anyone from 5 years old to 50 and above. It’s a great sport and this is the gym to learn it.

I came to this gym from out of town and the guys here were very welcoming. Friendly atmosphere, and some great rolls were had. Also, the teachings were very understandable and well taught. I would definitely recommend this gym!

Gracie Barra Carlsbad is by far the best jiu jitsu school in Carlsbad. Professor Aaron runs a structured class that has a perfect balance of discipline, fun and learning. The gym is always clean and everyone makes you feel welcome. I couldn't ask for a better place to train. For anyone thinking of trying jiu jitsu, I highly recommended Gracie Barra Carlsbad.

Gracie Barra Carlsbad has a great family vibe. But if you are competitive they also have staff and students that roll at that level. The lineage in this studio is close to the source: Mitsuyo Maeda > Carlos Gracie Sr. > Carlos Gracie Junior > Nelson Monteiro > Rafael "Foquinha" Ramos > Aaron Collins. The techniques taught here are a mix of both old school and new school to be able to defend or compete with different types of martial arts. My brother and nephews train at this gym and it has been part of their daily lives. Gracie Barra Carlsbad is a positive place to be if you ever need to lift your spirits. Aaron and each and everyone of his staff have different techniques and experiences to offer. Reviews is one way to find a home gym, but stepping on the mat and rolling with these guys will get you hooked right away! Come roll with our FAMILY!

Based on a number of recommendations from friends I checked this place out. I was looking for an activity for my two boys to get involved with in between their existing sport commitments. I was taken back by their supportive environment, their commitment to educate, and how proficient they were at their craft. I ended up joining myself :) Its a nice slice of life I get to share with my kids. If you are looking for a place to train or are just a bit curious about BJJ, I highly recommend walking into Gracie Barra Carlsbad.

I've been training Jiu-Jitsu with Gracie Barra for about 8 years now and split my time between the Encinitas and Carlsbad locations. Gracie Barra Carlsbad is home away from home for myself and my son. Everyone is super friendly on and off the mats and I can honestly say that these people are like family to me. Watching Aaron rolling and submitting guys twice his size is proof that his technique is on point and the coaching staff is top notch as well. First timers have nothing be intimidated about, everyone is made to feel welcome and there are people from all walks of life there to share their love of Jiu-Jitsu. All it takes is one time and you'll be hooked!

Professor Aaron and his team of coaches are top-notch. My 6 year old daughter and 4 year old son attend 4 days a week and they absolutely love it. They started in August of 2016 and have met and bonded with so many other great kids. The coaches are patient and give the kids the right amount of encouragement and discipline. They know each child's name and their level. The classes are very structured but also very fun at the same time. It's such a positive environment here and my children have definitely benefited from it. Thank You Gracie Barra Carlsbad!!

My wife and I started training at Gracie Barra Carlsbad with Professor Aaron a little over a year ago, and it has been one of the best decisions we have made. Professor Aaron is one of the most professional and respectful people and has an endless knowledge of jiu jitsu that he is enthusiastic to share with his students. The culture of the gym is outstanding - and there are no egos or tough guys - it truly is a family gym. Everyone training at GB Carlsbad is there to expand and share their knowledge with other members of the gym.
