As someone who had never tried martial arts or any sport before, I can't recommend Hipe highly enough! The head coach Max, is an incredible teacher with endless patience. I've been training with him for over a year now, and he’s taught me the fundamentals of BJJ, self-defense, and wrestling. I started from scratch, and he even helped me compete in the Highland games (Backhold wresting) for the first time in my life! The environment at Hipe is incredibly friendly and welcoming. They offer weekly classes for grappling and wrestling, and you really feel like you're part of a close-knit community. Everyone is supportive, especially with new comers. They also organize social events, so it's a great place to connect with others. The classes are open to all ages and experience level. I highly recommend Hipe, especially if you're starting from zero.

This is an amazing club! I came for the wrestling, I stayed for the people. Max is a wonderful coach, extremely experienced and knowledgeable. I’m 42 and now in the best shape of my life. I’ve lost 10kg and regained the athleticism I thought was gone forever. Max got my kids into wrestling too, which is priceless. Everyone at the club is welcoming and accommodating to any skill level. This is a great place to start back into combat sports or jump in for the first time. You are never too old to grapple. This club has truly changed my life. I will “never stop wrestling.”

Hipe Wrestling has truly exceeded my expectations. I recently had the pleasure of training there, attending seven personal strength and conditioning sessions with Head Coach Max and several Thursday Wrestling group classes and Sunday open mats. The comprehensive training approach was a standout feature. The personal sessions with Head Coach Max were incredibly beneficial. Max opted for condensed conjugate method tailored for BJJ athlete. The group classes were excellent experience. Hipe fosters a vibrant and friendly community atmosphere, where everyone, regardless of skill level, felt welcome and encouraged. The camaraderie among members created a supportive environment that made training both enjoyable and motivating. Coach Max’s attention to detail in these sessions ensured that each participant received constructive feedback and guidance, helping to sharpen techniques and build confidence. An added bonus is that Hipe Wrestling Club is now affiliated with BJJ Globetrotters, broadening the training community and offering fantastic networking opportunities. Overall, I highly recommend Hipe Wrestling Club. I proudly rate my experience 5 stars. Whether you’re seeking the camaraderie of dynamic group sessions or personalised coaching, Hipe offers an exceptional environment for growth, skill development, and community connection.

100/10 for Hipe. I love training at this gym and the environment Max has created. The space is extremely safe & inclusive which is important for anyone partaking in Martial Arts and especially so as a woman in a primarily male dominated sport. Max has played an integral part in my Jiujitsu journey so far and has helped me expand into both freestyle wrestling and Scottish backhold wrestling with his encouragement. He’s an incredible coach with years of experience in a variety of martial arts and that is evident in his teaching practice.

My son is on autism spectrum and since he was not attending PE classes at his school we were worried about his physical development. We decided 1-1 session with Max once a week will be our best option. Initially it was supposed to be only temporary but we were so happy with the results that we continued the sessions even after change of venue (last Friday was our son’s 45th session with Max at Hipe). Max is able to keep my sons attention for the full 60 minutes of class, he can quickly recognise when my son is bored, switch things up and finish the session with some boxing which my son loves. Starting sessions with Max coincided with improvement in my son’s behaviour at school (less frequent phone calls from school were very welcomed…). If you have neurodivergent child or young adult and are looking for some private sessions then Max at Hipe is your man.
