Highstyle jiu jitsu has a great training environment, with talented martial artists. You don’t be disappointed, if your goal is to learn Jiu Jitsu! 👍👍👍 very friendly martial artist, that are open to trade techniques.
I’ve trained a lot of gyms over my 10+ years doing BJJ. Highstyle is a great place in DC. I’ve found the training to be safe and supportive, especially important to me as a smaller practitioner.
Posted 2 years agoVery professional, genuine trainers. Very clean.
Hard to find a Jiu Jitsu/MMA place not only teaches you techniques but builds your character. The organization itself stands on the right side of social issue and through its leadership it (good character building) is reflected in its practice. PNN.
Some of the best trainers in town. Really enjoyed my time here.
Great place to train with caring instructors and a lovely friendly community gym to train at!
Great gym! Plan on talking a course here next week
I love Highstyle jiu-jitsu stuff they are amazing thank you 😊 ❤️
Solid trainers. Very clean and well kept. Professional gym
Trainer is excellent and this place is amazing!!
Incredible place to train! The staff is very knowledgeable, safe and effective. A very chill atmosphere too
At Highstyle Jiu-Jitsu. I'm very impressed! The place is very clean, which is important for keeping everyone safe and healthy. The instructors are excellent and really care about helping each student get better. Their attention to detail and personalized feedback have made a big difference in my progress. Whether you're just starting out or have been practicing for years, Highstyle Jiu-Jitsu does a fantastic job for all levels. I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to train in a great environment!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Visited once and I am beyond impressed with the level of instruction and the supportive community. The coaches are highly skilled, patient, and dedicated to helping each member improve. The classes are well-structured, providing a perfect balance of technique, conditioning, and sparring. I am confident I will see significant progress in my skills and confidence when I join. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming and clean making it a great place for beginners and experienced practitioners alike. I highly recommend this club to anyone looking to learn jujutsu in an encouraging and effective environment! ---
I love how this gym brings the community together. It's beautiful to see so many different cultures, religions, and ethnicities come together. We live in a dark world and your gym brings light to those who want to feel safe and capable of protecting themselves. I pray highstyle spreads their positivity and opens another gym in New York so I can be a regular.
Great place to train and roll. Will be back next time I’m in DC
Good people will always bring good energy to business
love this place and these people. i’m always skeptical and uncomfortable in these environments, but everyone here is very knowledgeable and the staff is SO beyond welcoming. they’re also very inclusive, which we love.
It’s a very welcoming environment for any one visiting or if you’re new to BJJ. Highly recommend you checking this place out. Self defense is key these days. Streets aren’t safe! OSS.
Beautiful place, clean and staff is great.
Such a wonderful training experience! The staff are all very professional and are such great people. I highly recommend this facility!!
My friend recommended this small gym. I loved it when I was in DC. Everything about it is unique, personalized and just works for you. I also noticed some 1 star reviews; don’t listen to them, they are just haters and harassers. This small business is owned by minorities and Muslims that’s why.
If you’re looking for a self defense class or want to learn jiu jitsu then this is the right place for you! Highly recommended for beginners or pros!!!
Amazing place! Friendly staff! Always accommodating & super helpful. Thank you for all that you do!!
Best place to train in all of DC! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The establishment is extremely clean and they pride themselves on helping their members succeed! You can't go wrong. A must try!!!!
Just an awesome place all around to train. The owner is so nice, patient and accommodating to beginners. I felt comfortable, learned a lot about jujitsu and had so much fun. . I will be back for sure.
Great little BJJ club with excellent instruction, community feel, and reasonable pricing. I especially appreciate the welcoming atmosphere. I returned to BJJ after a long hiatus and the folks at high style made me feel at home from my first class.
Highstyle is not only an amazing place to train jiu jitsu, but is also an incredibly supportive and caring community. I first started at Highstyle about a year ago as a beginner, and I have loved everything about training here. The instructors are highly skilled and encouraging, which makes this a perfect environment for newbies or more experienced practitioners. I've always felt safe and respected by my instructors and training partners, and have felt comfortable bringing a number of my friends by to train. Most notably, Highstyle is a unique community that you'd be hard pressed to find at any other gym. People who train here are incredibly supportive and helpful, both on and off the mats. Highstyle is a truly special community that I feel very lucky to be a part of.
Jammin is a wonderful instructor. I’ve always felt very respected and appropriately challenged. Highstyle is a great and accessible place for beginners. I had never had a bjj class before and Jammin made me feel comfortable and supported the whole way through!
I've been training here for quite some time now, started as a place to sneak some extra training while in the area. But, the people I came across have been some of the kindest and nicest people I've ever met. Everyone wants to help you get better not just at BJJ but in life. As for the BJJ, I came in with some experience of my own and they helped me explore even more aspects of BJJ. I've noticeable gotten much better just from the time I've spent here. I'd recommend this place to just about anyone.
Loved the space, I dropped in a couple times and they welcomed me like I was part of the team for years- plus extremely technical crew that teaches fundamental and modern jiujitsu
Easily the most welcoming friendly gym I’ve ever been to. Absolutely incredible place I cannot recommend enough. The training, community and staff is unmatched!
This is a great place to learn and I’m excited to come back soon!
Highstyle is my home away from home. From white belt to black belt i cant reccomend this gym enough! I love the training environment and the coaches/students have been so welcoming when i cross train. Oss
Awesome inclusive Jiu Jitsu club! Definitely worth a try
I came to Highstyle as a brand new white belt and have trained here for over a year. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming, and inclusive. The instruction is detailed, flexible, and focused on maximizing results while maintaining safety and comfort for all participants. This is a non traditional school, with no standard uniforms, rigid hierarchies, or weird rituals, like bowing before stepping on the mat or calling the instructor “professor.” The Highstyle community is one of a kind, and I honestly count many of the instructors and students as friends now. Special shoutout to Jammin who runs the show and does so much to create the fun, engaging, and accepting environment that makes Highstyle so phenomenal.
Awesome school, great instructors. Best BJJ club in DC.
Best place for legit BJJ training
Good people there . Definitely coming back to start training soon.
Incredible place to start (or continue) your jiu jitsu journey. The coaches are highly knowledgeable, patient, and welcoming to everyone that steps on the mats. The students and general community of Highstyle will keep you coming back week after week. Truly can’t say enough good things about my experience here
An incredibly welcoming environment with great instructors and friendly people. Highly recommend!
Awesome place! Very kind, open minded people with great training.
So I've been waiting a bit to write a review because I wanted to get to know Highstyle some more first. By now, I'm a little less than 10 months into training there. The review is simple - easily the best place I've ever trained for martial arts. The instructors are really talented, very knowledgeable and just generally a great group of people to learn from. And it's really the people there - students included - who have kept me coming back. It has managed to cultivate a friendly and supportive environment for those of us who are new to jiu-jitsu and still finding their feet in the sport. All in all, definitely encourage folks to check it out. The rates for classes are super reasonable - especially if you compare with other places in the area - and you get a lot for your money. If I could give more than 5 stars here, I would.
Great instruction from high level jiu jitsu practitioners. Warm vibe among a close-knit group that is welcoming to newcomers and guests. Great location by Convention Center. Very nice clean space with accessible street parking.
I’ve been training BJJ on and off since 2019. Isaac and Ben are terrific instructors and complement each other well. They coached me for my entire journey so far and have, at times, been the sole reason for my connection to the sport. Both hail from the revered Beta Academy and have brought along the same principles but with their own twist. You’ll quickly learn basics, but it will be layered in with more advanced techniques too. The atmosphere is reflective of its owners/founders: it is relaxed but focused. You will be supremely motivated to get better and the encouragement is abundant. It truly feels like a family. Although I do not get to train as often as I like, the entire membership holds me and everyone else accountable. If you’re interested in learning jiu jitsu, or if you are looking for a place to sharpen your skills or even return to the sport, I strongly urge you not to overlook this practice.
These guys are awesome. Small detail focused classes, chill environment and people!
Having trained 6 years and having had a bad experience at a previous Jiu jitsu school, I gave the sport a last chance and joined Highstyle Jiu Jitsu. It was honestly the best decision! Coach Ben and Coach Issac are two incredible teachers and practitioners who are respectful, love the sport and their students. The culture they have fostered, to grow as a Jiujitero and as a person, is truly incredible and evident in all their students. Everyone is welcoming and willing to train with good intention. If you are thinking of trying Jiu jitsu out or an experienced practitioner with tournament experience looking to improve your game, there is amazing training for both. Trust me though, do yourself a favor and walk into the door of Highstyle Jiu jitsu, I promise you will not regret it.
Went here for an open mat with a friend. Very great blend of competitiveness and community. Well maintained and spacious. Plan on coming here more and more as the instructors are very knowledgeable.
Highstyle Jiu jitsu is a great and fun atmosphere to learn and train Jiu jitsu. Highly knowledgeable coaches and training partners!
These guys have a great place to train and are extremely knowledgeable! They are very welcoming to travelers! If you are in the DC area this is a great place to train. No gimmicks, no frills, just good training! I will be back!
I've been training for a little less than a year, and when I returned to college, I knew I had to find a gym. Training at Highstyle has been an absolute pleasure. The level of skill, the expansive knowledge, and the welcoming environment make it ideal for all people of all skill levels. I can say, declaratively, that my Jiu Jitsu has improved mightily since joining. As a student, I thought making it in for session would be a challenge. However, Highstyle, in being a more relaxed environment, allows for greater logistical flexibility for its members. This is a huge bonus for people like myself whose schedules are constantly changing. On top of that, when you come into the club, the training and work you do pays off. In sum, Isaac and Ben foster a culture based on people getting the most out of the experience. They have created a community predicated on getting better, and enjoying the ride that is Jiu Jitsu. There is no better place to train Jiu Jitsu in the DC area than Highstyle.
Located in the historic Shaw district, Highstyle Jiu Jitsu is the place to go if you are looking to either start your jiu jitsu journey or, for those with experience, take it to the next level. Highstyle is a non-traditional jiu jitsu club, with focused, intensive drilling that connects the dots class to class, and top notch on hand instruction from coaches Isaac and Ben. I've been training since 2009, and have been at HIghstyle since it opened four years ago, and can say without qualification that my jiu jitsu has grown more in these four years than it EVER would have without Highstyle. If you love jiu jitsu you owe it to yourself to try the Highstyle Lifestyle.
I recommend Highstyle for any level of BJJ practitioner. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and teammates are encouraging. The club culture is the most alluring aspect, and I highly recommend you come out and see for yourself.
Highstyle has been my jiu-jitsu home for the majority of my time in DC. If you are looking for focused small group style jiu-jitsu this is the place.
This is what they practice at this establishment!!! Disgusting I highly advise to start clear of this place. Stepping and cleaning his feet on the Israeli flag
Take your business somewhere else. This is a terrible place to train they dont clean there mats and I got ring worm after one session here. Not to mention there was some chubby guy filming me our entire session claiming to be a reporter with the PNN? Not sure what that is... this is a very small gym and these fools don't really know what they are doing at all.
Would never come back got yelled at by the owner and he called me a Kike
