Darcio Lira has been great for my family. My kids are learning self-defense, skills, and leadership and confidence. After five months, I decided to step on the mat and train and have never regretted that choice. As a mom, it can be hard to find time to work out, so working out in a place that is family-friendly that my kids love coming to makes it easy.

We’ve had an amazing experience at Darcio Lira BJJ! We have both our kids enrolled and they are incredible with the kids—they truly know how to connect with them and keep them motivated and excited to learn. The students are very well behaved and focused, which is really impressive to see. Beyond the training, there’s such a genuine sense of community here. Everyone feels like family, and it’s clear that Carlos and the team have worked hard to build a positive, supportive environment. Highly recommend!

My kids (ages 5&7) have been enrolled at Darcio Lira Hayward for almost a year. From day one, it was apparent that this place is special. Sherman, the instructor for the young class (3-6 year olds), has an incredible gift for teaching children. He’s very patient, respectful and nurturing, all the while maintaining a firm and consistent approach. I expected the class to be “organized chaos,” but it’s anything but. It strikes an age-appropriate balance between disciplined and fun, as Sherman describes it: “small axe, big tree.” In today’s world, where instant gratification and immediate results are the norm, it's truly refreshing to see children given the opportunity to struggle, persevere, and steadily improve over time. This lesson isn't just for the kids; it's a reminder for us parents too. We need to practice patience and allow our children the time they need to grow. I'm grateful that Sensei Carlos and Sherman lead the class with this philosophy in mind. Sensei Carlos also understands the importance of building confidence and leadership skills. The opportunity for "bigger kids" from the 5 pm class to assist instructors during the 4 pm class is priceless. It fosters confidence, leadership, and discipline in a way that I wish I had experienced as a child. What's even better is that my kids absolutely adore attending classes here! And as a bonus, I get one blissful hour to relax. It's a win-win for everyone. Highly recommended!

My 2 year old loves coming to his jitsu class. I can’t believe the patience and dedication and learning skills Sensei has with his students. I love the attention and atmosphere that it gives to my son.

This gym has been a great place for my kids. In the year that we have been going, the instructors have shown great patience and my kids skills have really developed.My wife even started taking classes a few months after the kids started, so it has become a family activity. I recommend this gym for anyone looking to get themselves or their kids involved in jujitsu/self-defense.

Sensei Carlos and Sherman are amazing. My daughter was extremely hesitant initially but they were able to ease her in at her own pace. The techniques and classes are very thorough and instructive. I am glad to be part of this family.

We were introduced to Hayward Darcio Lira from a neighbor whose son trained at the school. I brought my 6 year old there to have her do a trial Jiu-Jitsu class to see if she'd like it. I was surprised that she fell in love with it so quickly. Sensei Carlos is a great instructor and teaches the kids to be confident in themselves and instills the great morals and values found in traditional martial arts. It has been 5 years since that day my daughter started and since then it has become a 2nd family. We now have everyone in the house training in either Jiu-Jitsu (daughter [11], son [5], dad [40+]) and Kickboxing (wife [40+]). Sensei Carlos, Sensei Manny, and all the instructors there are top notch! I'd definitely recommend anyone to join the Hayward Darcio Lira family!

My four year old son loves & enjoys coming to class everyday. The trainers and sensio are well versed in getting these young kids to focus ans learn jiu jitsu. They have so much patience for these kids. I would highly recommend it to any parent looking for a good fun environment for there kid.

My kiddo has enrolled there since October 2017, and loves attending class daily. This is a Martial arts school that will raise one's level physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally and socially. It's a safe family environment that employs mantras for good habit building in several facets of life. I recommend this place for anyone of any age, looking to better themselves while also growing family in the community. It's a gem in the neighborhood for kids and adults alike.

It's our first time here, my son was doing tryouts for the first time ever to see if he would like. honestly, everyone there made him feel like family. They are so welcoming, so nice and the kids are amazing! Even the little ones were helping my son as he didnt know what or how do it. I highly recommend this place. we are definitely coming back! Sensai Carlos not only builds great athletes but also teaches the kids honesty, respect and to work hard to achieve their dreams. Hayward BJJ Darcio Lira is amazing! Such a great spot for kids and adults. They teach the kids discipline, respect and self-defense. The people are a great community and Carlos (owner and Sensei) is a great role model to the kids. Highly recommend!

Excellent instructors, constantly rotating moves and making sure the kids are focusing and helping one another to learn and excel. Champion oriented, striving for greatness in everyone of their students. As a parent I really enjoy having the time to just watch my son learn something new and see him strive to understand and want to be apart of a team. As a person who enjoys martial arts bjj was one I've never known or understood so to learn something new is awesome for myself as well. Hands down a great school all in all with a life is tough, you gotta be tough and have a support system to succeed vibe to it. Highly recommend.

Go see Sensei Carlos!! He is absolute the best coach in BJJ & Life Coach! Our 7yr old girl can't get enough of the training and exposure to the sport. She'll be attending her first tournament thanks to the encouragement from her Sensei Carlos! Thanks again Sensei for your amazing work and discipline with our baby girl!

Spark Jiu Jitsu is packed with talent, excellent teaching and a great group of people! I have known some of the guys there for many years, Don Franks and Professor Carlos Rocha. Not only is Spark a great team, but the guys here are humble and technical. I watched Joe Moreira receive his coral belt from Francisco Mansor at Spark! Great vibes and Jiu Jitsu at Spark Jiu Jitsu!
