I recently started training here and have had a fantastic experience so far. From the moment I walked in, everyone was incredibly welcoming and friendly. Starting something new—especially Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu—can be intimidating, but the instructors and students made it easy to feel comfortable right away. The coaches take the time to explain techniques clearly and make sure beginners understand what’s going on, while still keeping classes engaging for more experienced students. The atmosphere is supportive, respectful, and very positive. If you’re new to BJJ or thinking about trying it for the first time, this is a great place to start. The team here really goes out of their way to make newcomers feel included and part of the group.

Having trained at over 10 gyms and dropped into far more, this is by far the best organized and best run gym I have ever come across. Not only that, but so flexible. Want to train with your kids? 530 in Lemoyne. Want to train after your kids? 630. Want to train early? Afternoon? Evening? 530? 630? 730? I feel like I can finally train around my work schedule and it's awesome.

Just wrapped up my first week at Harrisburg Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo, and I can’t say enough positive things about my experience. If you are even slightly curious about martial arts, I wholeheartedly recommend you check this place out. From the moment I walked in, the instructors were incredibly approachable and friendly. They create a learning environment that is both challenging and supportive. Their expertise is obvious, but they teach in a way that is accessible to a complete beginner like myself. The student culture here is amazing as well. Everyone I have rolled with has been welcoming and focused on learning together. There are no egos, and no one is there to smash you. It’s a true team environment. To anyone on the fence, I get it. Showing up to the first class is like jumping in the deep end of a pool. It’s intimidating. But I can assure you that the community at Harrisburg BJJ and Judo makes it a welcoming plunge. After reflecting on my first week, I know this is a journey I plan on sticking with for the long haul. The hardest part is just showing up and walking through the door for the first time, but I promise you won’t regret it.

When our 5 year old son asked if he could take "karate", we looked around for the best school. Our discovery revealed the advantages of BJJ over other martial arts and our inquiries repeatedly prompted us to explore Harrisburg BJJ specifically. Seeing the fun his brother had in his initial classes, our 7 year old son asked if he, too, could begin training. The classes for children are FUN but there is an atmosphere of respect for sensei and training partners alike. Black belt professors take time to explain the origins of jiu jitsu and judo, often teaching the Japanese names for positions and movements. At 49 years old, I have decided to join my sons in their training. This is something I hope we can do together for many years. The school prioritizes that BJJ is a defense mechanism to be used ONLY in that way. Already, we have seen our boys grow in their confidence while advancing in their skills. I am happy to have found the authentic professors and practitioners of BJJ in central PA. I look forward to growing as a part of this new team. Our family is proud to affiliate with these exceptional people.

Came to Harrisburg for work and dropped in for a mid-day nogi class and the whole vibe was just awesome. Nate was a terrific coach—knowledgeable, funny, chill. Great explanations, not too much talk. And a large group of students, probably 16 or so, were all very welcoming. Great rolls—challenging, but with a little room to work and great pace. Can’t wait to come back next time in town!

Our son has taken Judo at Harrisburg BJJ and J for over two years now, he started when he was only 5, and he's 8 now and still loves it! The instructors are amazing and patient, and give your children the skills they need to succeed in sport and life. The overall messages they teach here are the perfect balance of how to succeed, as well as perspective on whats truly important. Whether an aspiring Olympian, MMA fighter or a complete casual judo/BJJ practicer, you can't go wrong with the training and competition at this school and the instruction you'll receive. I literally can't say enough good things about Sensei Angel, who my son primarily takes classes from, but in his time with the other instructors; David, Monica, Luis, Alex and anyone else I'm forgetting (I apologize), he's had equally amazing experiences. Whether you come here to train (and it's sister schools), or whether you entrust them with your kids, I can assure you you'll never regret it.

Stopped in for a class at the end of Aug while I was in town for a job interview. Everyone was welcoming and I was able to get some really good rounds in. I was also pleasantly surprised to see how many students were on the mats, ~25 for gi class and 30+ for the no gi class right after. Great training!

I am a pilot that has the opportunity to train all over the country during my layovers. It was my first time overnighting in Harrisburg and I was looking for somewhere to get a roll in. Dave answered the phone at Harrisburg BJJ and invited me to come train. Dave was teaching that night and it was excellent instruction followed by a great 4 or 5 round live roll. Everyone there is super kind and helpful to new guys like myself. If you are interested in trying BJJ, definitely give this place a chance to teach you. i just started training in BJJ at Bayou Jiu-jitsu in Baton Rouge, La. I took a job recently that requires travel and wound up in PA temporarily, and was looking for somewhere to train. I made contact with David at Harrisburg BJJ, and explained my situation. He was instantly accommodating, warm and welcoming. How a person treats you and responds to you is tells you a lot about them, their character, and the environment of a gym. If you're looking to get started in BJJ, continue training, or to enroll you kids in a healthy activity, this is the place to go. As relative newbie to BJJ it can be intimidating to start but you'll find that gyms / dojo's are actually one of the safest and most comfortable places to be. You test yourself, build your body and mind, and are surrounded by people who support you and guide you and motivate you as you progress

Had the opportunity to drop in for a noon class while traveling in the area. The instructor (Lawrence) and the whole class was really inviting and fun to train with today. Great communication via the website/email inquiry. The class had a variety of belts/experience and the rolling towards the end was all at a good pace/attitude. I am a 2 stripe 53 year old white belt and again felt very comfortable throughout it all. Wish I was in town longer on this trip.

Harrisburg Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo has become a home away from home for my wife and I. It's cliche, but it's true. We moved up here from Florida and joined the gym the day we got here. The instructors are top notch and will work with you to find what works for your body type and goals. They'll also push you when you don't want pushed or motivate you when you don't want motivated. There is no better choice for BJJ or Judo in the central PA area! Plus, the head judo instructor David Brogan looks dang good in a gi ;)

Awesome place. I’m in college so unfortunately I move in an out of the area but I came here over winter break and then again this summer. The techniques and instruction itself is great but what really makes this place special is how great the people are. Everyone I’ve met so far has such a positive attitude and the higher belts have been extremely helpful when rolling. The MMA classes are also great. You can tell whether you're going to like a gym or a martial arts academy when you're out on the mat. I went to an open mat night with the intention of only staying for an hour. I ended up staying for 3 hours and immediately signing up for classes. Price is more than reasonable for the quantity and quality of classes offered. A generally friendly and uplifting environment between the students. If I stay in the local area, this is going to become a huge part of my weekly routine. Be a better defender. Be a better leader. Be a better me.

Stopped in as a visitor was surprised at the level of jiu jitsu the school has which was awesome to get good rolls everyone was super friendly and welcoming the head instructor showed nothing but hospitality as a guest visitor and I will be stopping back again when I’m in the area I would recommend if your in the area to check them out you’ll get some great technique and training at Harrisburg jiu jitsu OsS!

I stopped in for at class while in town visiting. Bob was teaching fundamentals and he gave an excellent class. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. If you're interested in learning jiu-jitsu I would definitely recommend going there.

I trained here during my weeks-long visit in Harrisburg. The owner was so welcoming and kind. There are a lot of people who show up to BJJ class, which gave me so many opportunities to go against new people. As a woman, I loved that there were so many women who show up in general. My favorite class was the Women's-Only BJJ class on Sunday. I don't have an opportunity like that at my regular place so it was great. It's also nice that the teachers know Judo too and gave me a different perspective because of that.

Everybody at this school was so welcoming as someone who has just started taking BJJ. Everybody is really relaxed and willing to help you learn. Even as a disabled student, I found it very fun and open to be a part of this gym and I am very thankful for the experience.

Guest rolled here while in PA for work. Welcomed in with open arms for a nogi night. Good advanced belt partner for the class session and then some really new white belts for the free roll portion. Good teaching and learning, good sweat and no injuries. Would love to come back sometime soon!

I’m from Miami Florida and I was visiting Harrisburg. I visited Harrisburg Brazilian jiu- jitsu and Judo and they welcome me with open arms . I’m a black belt in Judo , and I have practice the sport for very long time, and I was impressed with the level of knowledge of the profesor on both arts, Judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. You can tell by the high technical level of they students that is a great school to learn Brazilian jiu- jitsu and Judo .

I had a great time training with Prefacer David. His Judo techniques and BJJ techniques are high level. I am sure everyone gets better under his teaching. I talked to Dave on the phone about 2 weeks ago and told him I was coming to Harrisburg for a Law Enforcment Convention. Dave invited me to come in and train, with open arms. I stopped by for Monday’s day class at 12, walked in and was greeted by Joe, Black Belt instructor, he was extremely friendly and the place was immaculately clean. I took the instructional portion and then rolled for about 30 minutes after.. Great place, I highly recommend it and I will be back for Wed at 12... Thank you for the hospitality...

The folks at this school are top notch. From instructors to students, everyone is supportive and willing to go that extra mile to ensure that your experience is a positive one. A good coach will teach you what you need to do and make sure you do it correctly. A great coach will take that a couple of steps further and encourage you to learn by demonstrating passion for the sport/art, and not only take you in as a student but also make you a part of their family. Every single coach at Harrisburg Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo are the epitome of a GREAT COACH. Could not ask for a better place to go for comrade, to decompress and most important; learn and grow.

Harrisburg BJJ and Judo is as legitimate and awesome as it can get. Lots of training partners to train with that you will never become a one-trick pony. The school with the most Brown and Black Belts in Central Pennsylvania. Traditional yet flexible and friendly. The instructors consider new students friends and those with more tenure, family. Impossible to not progress here. Almost every competitor that trains here places in the podium with a consistent rate. Largest women program and children program too. And if schedule is your problem, don't worry. They open twice and sometimes 3 times a day 6 days a week! Best place for BJJ, Judo, Wrestling, and Kickboxing fundamentals. Just visit, you'll see.

I go here often. The instructors are always great, very knowledgeable, and completely welcoming. I’ve competed here some of their in house tournaments and they are often ran better than the other major tournaments. The largest school in the area. Great rolls here.

Training here is one of the best decisions I've made. Before joining I tried contacting their competitor, nothing for days. Emailed HBJJJ->same day response-Incredible! For those who just need a cool gym to train to those wishing to compete at a high level, Harrisburg Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Judo is the place to be. The owners and coaches are very welcoming and accommodating to new clients, customer service is incredible, and it's evident the culture at HBJJJ is one that values relationships. If you're on the fence about this, it's definitely worth a visit for an evening or two.

I checked out the school after a reference from a friend. One of the owners gave me a gi jacket to borrow, and I was part of that very class. High level belts are everywhere, and everyone was overly welcoming.

Good gym, the bjj is top notch and there are a lot of competitive athletes who win medals at competitions as well as solid mma fighters. The instructors are plenty and every one is truly knowledgeable and passionate about teaching the art. However, downside is that like many other bjj dojos standup fighting is not prioritized. Would like to see WAY more wrestling and judo oriented classes in general instead of just ground fighting, so I’ll give it 4 stars.

Be very careful when signing a contract here... they use an 18 month autorenewing contract where unless you're very on the ball or plan ahead, you can basically never leave without paying a $178 cancelation fee.

I know Covid was a problem for businesses but I signed my son up the first week in March 2020. When they had to close and went online I was cool for a month or two but my son didn't want to learn online. (perhaps if he had been into it for more than one lesson before it moved online) It wasn't what I paid for. When I simply asked that when they could provide me with what I paid for (in person classes) I be credited back instead I got a long text message battle with the owner. The kids instructor seemed great but I paid for 6 months and got one lesson. They even charged me a 7th month when I signed up for 6 so I had another huge text message battle. The whole thing left me with the impression that the owners were kind of dishonest. They were perfectly content to take my money for 6 months knowing that I wasn't happy, didn't want it and wasn't getting anything close to what I signed up for.
