The instructors are all very helpful and give clear instructions, the other students are very friendly, and the lessons push you both physically and mentally. We have 3 sons enrolled, ages 7, 9 and 13, and have loved their experience here. The coaches are fantastic, teaching not only the sport but also emphasizing discipline and respect. We've been a part of the gym for nearly 2 years and watched our sons grow so much in strength and confidence. The staff is friendly, and atmosphere is supportive and family like. You can go occasionally for strength and recreation, or as often as you can and train for tournaments. They welcome all levels of commitment and skill. I got to train Muay Thai here for two months and it was the best gym I’ve ever been to. Kru Ian and RJ are great. Their style of teaching is fantastic and wish I’ve had the opportunity to train there longer. It doesn’t matter what level you are or how long you’ve been, you’ll learn something new and if not, you’re practicing the patterns you’ve learned and branching off of it. Great stuff. Got nothing but love for this place. I hope to stop by again in the future and train here. On a side note-I got very busy towards the end of my time with work, so I unfortunately didn’t have the time to make it out and say my final goodbyes but best wishes to my muay thai family out there!

Trained for the week while on vacation for Thanksgiving. The staff and members were extremely inviting and helpful. They welcomed me in and made me feel part of the team. Mats and changing rooms and bathrooms were very clean which is one of my look for things in a training location. Switched from another Jitzu academy and soon felt home in a family oriented and friendly environment. The building is spacious and always clean. Lots of parking spots available and definitely worth the drive. All professors are extremely knowledgeable and guide both adults and kids throughout the Bjj journey. I’m super happy I’ve found this place and think is definitely the best in the Panhandle. It takes us about 40 min to get here but is definitely worth the drive!!! Quick update. I can truly say this has been the best decision I’d ever made for my kids and myself!!! I can finally see them improving their jiujitsu game day after day and most importantly be happy to be on the mat.I’d never thought I’d come back to train due to the previous experience but thanks to the expertise and patience of the Professors and team my passion and smile are back!This is our family. I moved to florida and was looking for a jiu-jitsu gym... I found Gulfbreeze Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (Checkmat). I don't regret starting my training there. It is the best place, including if you want to compete! The environment is so good, I felt at home soon after starting training. The professors are professional and have a huge background in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. The amenities are always clean. They sanitize the mats every day more than once. I feel more comfortable knowing I am training on a clean mat. Additionally, the partners are great to train with and they support the beginners as much as they can. On top of this, they just completed a renovation for a second mat to expand their schedule and make more classes available, so no excuses to miss training!!! I highly recommend!!!

From a person who’s studied martial arts most of their life you are not gonna find a higher quality studio, or one that cares about the quality of their students. Checkmat Atlanta (Smith Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu)

Chico is a very high level jiu-jitsu practitioner and coach. In the short amount of time that I have known him, I have competed against him and seen him coach his teammates/students. Chico put's his students first over himself. Seeing the excitement of his students and their hard work in competition, is more important to Chico than some extra medals. This was apparent at the last Masters Worlds where he put "them" in front of himself to help coach and mentor because he wanted to make sure they knew he was there for them. This was more important to him then extra medals. This was a big reason is why I joined Checkmat! Service before self!

I love this place! I have been to more than a few Jiu Jitsu gyms over the past few years and this place is my Favorite. I actually travel over 1 hour 1 way to come and train. Why? Everything flows from the top down. Chico and Janilson are professionals not only at teaching BJJ (which they are Phenomenal!) but they are pros at building a community. This is a place where everyone can come, learn and get better regardless of your age, size, current weight or athletic ability. I have personally seen several cases of people completely changing their lives which is exactly what a martial art is supposed to do. Great place. Very clean and well maintained facility. Instruction is top notch. Not just a bunch of random techniques; instead professor teaches a topic every week which he builds upon as the week progresses and ties the flow to previous weeks. Everyone gets as much personal attention as they need. No contracts (awesome); cost for what you get is VERY cheap. The senior belt students are very helpful and everyone is friendly with the goal of enriching each others training.

World class, excellent instruction, provided by very knowledgeable, friendly and humble instructors. The training environment, from the instructors, to the students, and the facility itself, is absolutely first class. Everyone is super nice, friendly, ready to learn, and highly competitive all at the same time. Fantastic coaches and teammates make this place great. There’s lots of mat space for rolling and attentive coaches give constructive feedback during all classes. Even when there are a lot of people you still get the attention you need to improve and learn. My top reasons for joining, and staying, are the extremely knowledgeable coaches and friendly environment.

I originally started taking my son here and he loved it so much it was all he wanted to do, I saw how much he loved it so I decided to sign up myself so that we could do it together.
