Great atmosphere and the coaches acknowledge you.
We are so glad we signed our son up at Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu. Coach Ben does a great job with the kids. He is a great leader and is very good and giving direction to the kids for them to comprehend the techniques he is teaching.
Awesome gym, awesome instructors, awesome people and training partner. Been going for about 3 month consistently and loving it ! Also starting to have a solid little group of girls that come train so if you are a women and want to join please come try out !!
We spent a lot of time researching local places before starting our kids (6 and 4 at the time) in Jiu Jitsu and Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu had the best kids curriculum around. Definitely recommend!
My 8 yo daughter has been coming here for almost 1.5 years. The staff is great with the kids and very patient. Great place for my daughter to get exercise and learn to defend herself. Tip: some days can be crowded, so you should come early to get a parking spot and a place to sit (unless you bring your own chair). Otherwise would highly recommend!
My daughter Avery loves it here. The staff and the kids are really nice and friendly. Guerrilla makes it a fun and competitive place to train
Guerrilla has now been our Jiu-jitsu Academy for a little over two years. Matt and his team of coaches are super great with the kids and create a great learning environment for all ages.
My Granddaughter has been training Here for 5 months, its going well shes meeting new friends, The facility is always clean. I'm very impressed with the trainers on how they try to give each person or kids their attention, They are always there to answer any questions at any given time that you may have No matter what the situation is Whether it's billing scheduling 1 on 1 training.
We are a family with four generations of Judo/Jiu-Jitsu practitioners. At age three this was a great place for my son to begin his journey! Learning discipline and focus all while having fun! #bossbubba10
My cousin, nieces and kids train here and they all love it. My nieces and kids have been coming here since they were 3-4 years old. It’s been awesome to watch them progress. The coaches are really great at helping them learn in a way that is easy for them to comprehend. At first they were all shy but as they practiced and attended more classes their confidence grew along with their skillset. They have also learned how to incorporate things they have learned in other things that they do, which is amazing. i.e. my daughter does “ukemi” when she falls when she is playing soccer so she doesn’t hurt her head/back. The kids get excited and motivated each time the level up and we have made amazing friends here.
Amazing kids program. Structured and well thought out curriculum to not only teach self defense and Jiu Jitsu but structure and discipline. It's not often that there is black belt level instruction for kids classes (even adult classes) at other schools but Guerilla often has multiple black belts teaching the kids classes. Big props to the entire Guerilla team and the program they've created and maintained for over a decade. Highly recommend.
Great place for kids to learn how to protect themselves!
My kids have been students here since 2015 and it’s been rewarding to see my kids’ growth and maturity thru the meticulous instruction and discipline of the academy. We will continue to build our JiuJitsu journey with Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu Academy.
I am grateful of the experience my children have had at this jiujitsu academy over the past year. From day one, the instructors displayed an incredible level of expertise and patience, ensuring a safe and encouraging environment for learning. My children’s confidence and resilience have soared, thanks to the personalized attention and tailored instruction they receive. The academy's focus on discipline and respect has been instrumental in shaping not only their jiujitsu skills but also important life values. The facility is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with top-notch instructors. I can't recommend this academy enough for any parent looking to provide their child with an exceptional jiujitsu education and a supportive community. We’ve enjoyed our experience so much that we had a birthday party here and I have started with the adult fundamental classes. 5 Stars
Friendly people talented instructors. It's a lifestyle 5 years commitment at least 4 results. Would love to come back and play 4 free with Jose.
Clean Gym, deep level of skill, friendly atmosphere.
Excellent setup and instruction. It was my first time and it was immediately welcoming and comfortable and challenging in the best way. I am looking forward to continuing here. Strongly recommend!
Awesome Coaches!!👍
Fantastic.. a dope place to learn jiu jitsu. The teaching, the rolling, the community are all caliber. The facility is clean and well maintained. It is a friendly environment for those who are new to martial arts/combat sports. Its rare a sight at other gyms when you see upper belts jump in and immediately orient and help new students, but this not the case at Guerilla San Jose. From when I started , I have had upper belts offer their time, energy, and knowledge to improve my jiu jitsu. They recently updated their mats with judo floors so there is a springiness to them. It is very friendly for your back and physical longevity. Coach Matt and Chris and the other coaches are world class instructors and more importantly keep jiu jitsu fun and fresh for all speeds, all competitor levels, and all ages too. They teach everyone from 3 year olds to 60 year olds. That is remarkable. It's never stale and there's always a new take on different materials. At open mats, other athletes and members from other gyms are allowed to train. This is an important. Challenge yourself, have fun, and be around a caliber group of individuals at Guerilla San Jose.
Amazing jiujitsu academy! Judo mats for soft landing. Expert instruction. Super clean. Family oriented but as competitive as you want to get. Love training here when I’m in the San Jose area. Highly recommend for kids. I trained judo with an Olympic coach and started jiujitsu 13 years ago and trained all over the world. Matt Darcy is one of the best!
Super awesome staff! Brought my 2 boys here thinking it would be a descent place for them to learn and build their confidence but it was wayyy more than I expected. Love the flexible scheduling, always have staff that is attentive and helps kids when in need when doing certain drills or moves. The gym is always clean and ready to go for each class!!
With a little over a month training at Guerrilla I am hooked. It is a great place to train. Matt Darcy, the head instructor, has a wealth of knowledge. He is very patient with beginners and offers alternative ways of doing different drills if you have injuries which helps me out a lot. The staff is very helpful as is the culture with the students. I have found myself learning a lot from others with more experience. They offer their knowledge willingly so that you can improve. I don't see anyone with egos trying to prove something. Everyone is very measured. You will be sore, you will sweat, you will build confidence with every class you attend. If you're looking for something challenging, that's also a great workout and helps make you a humble person look no further.
One of the big things that I think distinguishes Guerrilla from a number of other Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academies in the area is how accommodating they are in terms of the range of programs that they offer. Whether you're seeking a family-centric environment (inclusive of young children), looking to learn a practical form of self defense, compete more seriously in the sport, or just generally stay in shape and have fun, Guerrilla will help. Matt Darcy, who is our head instructor, is a father, a coach, and a very seasoned competitor with a deep understanding of combat sports. Whatever your goals might be, Matt and his staff can help you achieve them on your terms. I started training at the age of 38. Now, at 43 years of age, I am still here, injury free, and better off in almost everything that I do these days for having walked into his academy (thanks Matt!). It's also worth mentioning that one-on-one lessons are available with a number of senior practitioners there. Shout out to Chris Fletcher who is a Guerrilla blackbelt available for private lessons! Chris has been a phenomenal guide and has managed to make things that seemed impossible to me before, possible now, and in some cases, easy. Guerrilla is much more than an academy. It's a wonderful community that is a reflection of the leadership there. It's a family.
Great place to train for all ages. Especially for kids. Every instructor is great. The environment is very welcoming as well. If you are an adult that wants to train Jiu Jitsu, definitely give it a free trial. You will meet some great people.
My son has taken classes here for several years. The staff are very knowledgeable, professional, and have a wonderful rapport with children. The owner, Matt, teaches most of the classes. The studio is beautiful and very clean. I recommend Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu to anyone looking to learn or train in jiu-jitsu in the San Jose area.
Amazing gym. Whether you want to compete, get in shape, or learn a new martial art. It has everything you want and need out of a gym. Awesome, hands on instructors and great individuals to train with and learn from!
We moved recently and we looked at a few jiu-jitsu gyms for our son. Guerrilla came highly recommended and we definitely saw why. The gym is clean and spacious. The coaches are helpful and patient. Everyone is kind and welcoming.
We love the environment. The instructors are great with the kids!!
We moved here from San Diego and we were looking for a place to have my son train JiuJitsu. I called around and a friend of mine recommended this place. My son tried it out for the first time for free. He immediately loves it and now a proud Grey belt. He love this place and so are we. Great place and amazing atmosphere with plenty of space. We’ve been with this academy for almost 2 years now and will continue to stay. I highly recommend this place.
My kids feel so confident and strong from the coaching they receive at Guerrilla Jui-Jitsu. Couldn’t be happier with their coaching team.
There aren’t enough good things I could say about Guerrilla Jiujitsu. My family has been coming to Guerrilla for about 10 years now. My youngest brother started as a white belt in the kids class, his first day, he wouldn’t even take off his socks. He’s now a brown belt, and loves to teach kids. My daughter started watching her uncle when she was weeks old, she’s now 4-years-old and LOVES training at Guerrilla. She is constantly asking to go to practice, and she’s already going 2x a week. She lets everyone know she’s practicing Jiujitsu and how much she loves it. I appreciate the time and patience the coaches give all the kids. The make sure to keep their attention on the lesson and interact with them throughout the entire class. It’s really awesome. Coaches also use terms and examples that the kids will understand and won’t get confused on, which is great. My daughter is excited to go to practice twice a week, and that makes my heart happy! I am so thankful and grateful for my GJJ family, it’s so nice to be back in the gym after 2 years!
My son had been going to Guerrilla for nearly a year now. The coaches are great with the kids. My son had no prior experience in any self defense prior to these classes and I am pleased with the progress.
We love it here! My daughter looks forward to her class each week and her coaches explains each move in such simple and detailed way that a 3y/o is able to mimic it home. The updated facility is beautiful and all the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. We have even had taken classes in the past with the owner/master himself! Amazing all around!!
I was in town for work and wanted to try and get a training session in and found Guerrilla ju jitsu online. I’m relatively new and hadn’t trained outside of my gym yet and I’ve heard all different stories as what to expect, good bad and ugly. Matt and his team were great! He was friendly on the phone and said I was welcome to drop by. I came by for an 11am class. It was a small but good sized class and everyone was very friendly and helpful. Matt took his time being detailed with his explanations and walked me through how to do some drills and techniques I hadn’t done before. Being a drop in he definitely didn’t need to take extra time to help but he did and was awesome about it. Next time I’m back in town I will definitely be swinging back. Appreciate the friendless and helpfulness. Oss
Great place to train learn and train hard.
Not the best BJJ studio around, but the best martial arts studio around.
Monsters roll here. You will get better and it will happen fast. Matt Darcy has clear concise instruction that’s easy to follow and his corrections are always on point.
My son has been coming to Guerilla for what would have been 4 years ( covid 🙄) but we joined in 2017 and it helped him tremendously. He gained so much confidence and absolutely loves his coaches. Coach Chris and coach Mat ( owner) have been huge role models for him and he really looks up to them. Very professional, fun and strict at the same time. They are amazing and we are so grateful to have found this academy.
Excellent gym with top notch instructors, training partners, and program. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in Brazilian jiu-jitsu!
Me hace feliz ver a mis hijas aprender y ejercitarse...me gustó mucho esté lugar!!!
Classes are legit with very knowledgeable individuals and a friendly atmosphere. Trust me on this even tho my 9yo daughter lives in Fremont City she would rather train at Guerrilla BJJ than anywhere else. Plus the Kimono Gi are A+. Try for your self. 🤙
I have been training here for close to 5 months, a great place to train and learn the art of Jui-Jitsu. The best part of the academy is it's culture and core values, which reflects in the way everyone in the class caries themselves. Irrespective of what prior experience one has in martial arts, or the physique and strength one possesses, the academy offers more than enough opportunities to learn and train.
Amazing gym! I just moved to the area and was surprised at how good the instruction is as well as the attention to detail. Matt is a great teacher and very welcoming, love the vibe here and it seems like their first priority is the advancement of their students. On a side note the "bad" review from the "new white belt" who visited with his "cousin"... The account has 2 reviews and the other one is for a different academy where he says he's been training for 2 years. If haters have to post fake bad reviews because no one who took a class here would ever leave one you know this place is awesome.
Great instruction and reliable class structure. Would recommend this gym to beginner and advanced student alike.
The instructors are amazing everyone is very encouraging and positive. Students tend to have a lot of fun as they are learning. The gym has a great program for kids and adults ...
High quality bjj
What a fantastic place to train with incredibly genuine people. I am an SBG 1st degree BJJ blackbelt and MMA coach and have trained in Europe, Asia, and numerous states in the US. Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu is among my absolute favourites. There is a great mix of black belts who roll in a safe and intelligent way. Whilst highly competitive, there is a great deal of respect and friendliness for visitors. It’s professional yet very lad back. Dave Camarillo is an absolute legend within BJJ, Judo and MMA where he’s led the likes of AKA to UFC championships. I can’t recommend it enough.
Great gym, great techniques, great people!! All around awesome place to train!!
Started here the same time as my 3 year old. Both of us love it, him 3 times a week and me with my 2. Definitely recommend it.
Great classes and instructors! Our three year old loves it! It is so inviting and fun for parents to watch the kids classes!
Trained Brazilian Jiu Jitsu here for about 2.5 years before I had to leave the Bay Area for SoCal. I also received my blue belt under the owner and instructor, Matt Darcy, who is a black belt in both BJJ and Judo. Parking: Big lot in the back, but does get packed during night classes. Sometimes you can find a sweet spot just when the parents are leaving after the kid's classes. Alternatively, there is plenty of parking along the streets. Gym space: Big and clean. The mats are cleaned at least twice a day, once after morning classes and once after evening classes. As of Jan. 2016, they have recently finished remodeling the interior so that means brand new mats as well. Instructor: Majority of the adult classes are taught by Matt himself. He goes over the techniques with just the right amount of detail and explains the whys as well as the common mistake you might make during the move. He blends a lot of judo and wrestling philosophy into the techniques, which I believe to be key to becoming a more complete grappler. Matt's lessons are well balanced, as he covers both traditional self-defense and modern sports jiujitsu techniques. Last and most importantly, he is approachable. Whether it is a technique questions, critiques or even membership/payment issues, he will do his best to answer them. Matt also has a group of black and brown belts for backup in the event that he cannot teach the classes himself. Other: Gym members wise, you get a plethora of belt levels and body types which is absolutely essential for your BJJ growth. This way, you get to test your technique against various levels and body types and get great feedback on what you are doing right or wrong and what to do to adjust. The front office staffs are pleasant to deal with, attentive and knows you by name. They are always willing to help with any membership questions or issues. All in all, a safe and spacious environment to train with top-notch instructions and customer service. But, don't take a from me, try it yourself and drop by for a free lesson or two.
Really wish I would have checked out more gyms before signing a contract here. Good stuff: - Big facility - Legit BJJ - Tons of training partners Bad stuff: - Only teach strength-heavy smash techniques - Painful/cheap techniques encouraged ("make them tap from pain...", "it not against the rules to cover someone's face with your hand...") - Only 1 instructor for a class of 40+ people so personal instruction is non-existent - I was injured from reckless/smashing players for 3 out of the 6 months I went here. When I asked for a pause in membership I didn't receive a response - Explanation/teaching of techniques from main instructor was mediocre - Warm-ups were irrelevant to BJJ and took up 10+ minutes of a 60 minute class - Many of the higher belts had no interest in rolling/helping lower belts. Some higher belts purposely did painful techniques to dissuade lower belts from trying to train with them - Poor communication overall, I only received responses when it involved paying them money - Contract required, as well as buying their custom Gi for $200 when you sign up - Main instructor Matt always had an arrogant vibe to him. Not really my style
Very weak training nobody takes it seriously I went with my cousin that trains there and it’s just awful the instructors spend more time telling the people not to dab in class than any actual training when I went there for one day I was a white belt I was able to tap a blue belt so it’s not worth the money at all
