If you’re looking for a fantastic kids BJJ program, look no further than Groundswell MMA! We had been at another local gym for almost a year, and the environment just wasn’t what we hoped for. After trying Groundswell, we quickly learned what a truly healthy program looks like. Our child had so much fun and couldn’t wait to make the switch. As a parent, I observed a class that not only teaches kids the art of BJJ, but does so in a fun, nurturing environment that your kids will actually beg to attend. The owner himself teaches the kids, and it was clear how invested he is—he knew all of their names. The coaching staff is plentiful, ensuring every child gets the attention and supervision they deserve. They separate the little ones into manageable groups and really focus on fundamentals while keeping it engaging and fun. We are so grateful to have found this gym and a culture we can truly stand behind. There’s a reason Groundswell MMA has been voted Best of the Best MMA Gym four years in a row!

I came to Groundswell without a combat background and I did not know anyone at the gym. I was quickly hooked, training 5-6 times per week! I made new friends, some I consider family at this point, and learned how to defend myself along the way. Zach Davis is an incredible instructor and person. Jason Wilson does fantastic with instructing, promoting, and uplifting you as an athlete. All of the coaches are welcoming and absolute dogs on the mat. 10/10 recommend Groundswell as THE place to be in the Frederick, MD area.

I have enrolled my son and myself in training at Groundswell, and I couldn't be more pleased with our decision. If you're looking to enhance your self-defense skills and build your confidence, this is undoubtedly the ideal place to start. The atmosphere is welcoming and supportive, making it perfect for individuals of all skill levels, whether you're a beginner or have some experience. The instructors are highly knowledgeable and dedicated to helping each student grow and improve. They focus not only on practical techniques but also on instilling a sense of empowerment that comes from knowing how to defend oneself. I highly recommend Groundswell for anyone serious about learning self-defense and boosting their self-esteem in the process!

Great place to let your kids build confidence and self discipline. Classes are age based. No one man instructor show plenty of instructors per class. Also kids can attend class 5 days a week if you want to take advantage of their program. Is not expensive for what they offer. Come and give them a try. Also have grown-up classes incase you also want to work out during your kids class.

The gym is clean and neat and the staff is amazing. My son is autistic and they was great with him. They didn’t push him to do more than he felt comfortable. While still nudging him to learn the techniques.
