This is a top tier bjj school. You are getting the best jiu jitsu instruction directly from Ricardo Almeida's black belts. Professor John, professor Eduardo, professor Eli, professor Tim, professor Rob, coach Mike, coach Boris, and every student I met here training for two years are exceptionally technical, very friendly, and love what they do. If you live in the area and are looking for a school, stop looking because this is it. Come take a class and see for yourself. These guys are the best around. If your looking to get your kids signed up, do it! Sometimes I've stayed after adult class, just to watch how professor John, coach Mike, and coach Boris teach the kids class. It's a masterclass of fun, engaging, clear instruction. It's not easy to teach kids and these guys do such a wonderful job. I'm so lucky to have these people in my life. Come hang out with us!

My son and I had a great experience at GB last night and signed up for instruction. The entire place is professionally run and the professors of jui jitsu were inspiring. They did a fantastic job keeping the class in focus and fun. Highly recommend for all ages as this place is top notch.

I’ve been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on and off for about 20 years, and I’ve been at Gracie Barra Newtown for over two years now. This gym is truly top-tier. Professor John, a black belt under world champion Ricardo Almeida, is one of the most technical, professional, and friendly instructors I’ve ever trained with. His attention to detail and ability to elevate every student’s game is unmatched. The atmosphere is incredible, welcoming, supportive, and genuinely family-oriented. From the moment you walk in, you feel like you belong. If you’re looking for a place to learn real jiu-jitsu, grow your skills, and be part of an amazing community, Gracie Barra Newtown is the place to be. Highly recommend.

Had a great training experience at Gracie Barra of Newtown. Michelle was extremely helpful and assisted with setting up my free 2 week trial. The gym was welcoming and located in a safe area. The instructors were professional and highly skilled. If you’re looking to learn jiu jitsu and have a busy schedule I would recommend this bjj gym.

Beyond the staff, the facilities, and the program which are tops in the area, it’s been a lifesaver for our precocious and very active 5 1/2 yo boy. The community of parents, students at various ages, ethnicities, and genders helps round out an already easy-to-give 5 star review. Bravo!

I’m a 51 year old, out of shape man that decided to change things up recently. I’ve always been intrigued by martial arts, although never having practiced seriously. I heard about Gracie Barra Newtown through a friend at work. I finally decided to begin & the folks at the gym have been very helpful and inviting. Both Coach Mike & Stacy have been very enthusiastic and supportive. Now keep in mind, I’ve only been to a few classes, but I can see how this can improve my life if I stick with it. I very much look forward to going to class and getting the most of things. I look forward to my progress and want to thank you guys for your support. If you have a doubt, just get started and see where it leads. Thanks, Dave

My son is 13 going on 14 and was in the adult class. He had a great time. They divided the mat into experienced and less experienced groups so there was less pressure, he was comfortable, and he was able to learn from other older teens/young adults. The people were supperrrrrr friendly and welcoming. His little brother watched the whole time, there were couches for families and younger kids to sit. We are going back Monday! :)

I am very pleased with quality of this school. The staff is extremely professional, knowledgeable and friendly. It is reasonably priced and they work great with kids. Having studied BJJ in the past I can safely say that this is a legitimate school to learn authentic Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

My son and I went for our first class on Saturday. Although it can be intimidating, the team made us feel very welcomed. I’ve been to other gyms where your partner, with more skills than a new guy, toys with you instead of teaching you. My partner, Timothy was awesome. He had patience and I learned a lot. My son had the same experience with Simon. Thanks guys!! We both signed up and will be back Monday. Looking forward to it.

My 8 year old son just joined and we couldn't be happier. The vibe is very family oriented, and the coaches and staff are incredibly welcoming. Pricing is great for the amount of class time you get. The facility is well maintained. You can tell that this is more than just an activity for the kids to do, it's something geared to help them grow as people. Really cool to see. Can't wait to watch the positive impact this has on my son.

The team at Gracie Barra is awesome. Aside from being experts at what they teach, how they teach it is so well done. My energetic 5-year old son has rarely been as focused & attentive as he is in their classes. My 8-year old daughter is motivated by the power she feels when working with the team in a perfectly PINK gi. So happy we said YES to the trial. We are hooked!

So we signed up for their free try out day just to see if my kids like it, not knowing what to expect, I have a 9 yr old girl and a 7 yr old boy. They both instantly loved it! The Professors and Coaches are amazing, and the kids are very friendly. This is exactly what the kids need. This definitely builds their confidence.

An instant feeling of belonging and caring the moment you walk in the door. I see my granddaughter smiling the entire time she is there. Many adults assist the children during training, and that “family feeling” is ever present. These lessons will help my granddaughter for her entire life.

Took my son for the free trial class and he was a bit shy at first but the staff at Gracie Barra Newtown BJJ was amazing! So kind and understanding with my son being a bit uncertain of new things. But we came back and he stated to come out of his shell a bit and now is excited to start his BJJ journey! He even told me in the car he was glad I signed him up! If it wasn't for the wonderful and welcoming staff I don't know if he would have had that same reaction! Would recommend to anyone who's looking into BJJ this place is great!

I’ve trained martial arts (judo) for nearly 50 years. I started jiu jitsu prior to the pandemic and and recently decided to get back into it. When I was looking for a school close to home to continue learning I visited several academies to find one that felt comfortable and resonated with my many years of being in a martial arts community. I’m thrilled to find Gracie Barra Newtown which has excellent instruction, quality facilities, and overall great culture - friendly, collaborative, and welcoming!

I’m having an amazing experience with Professor John, Professor Tushar, and the rest of the coaching staff and members. It's a great feeling to know that you’re welcomed, encouraged, and supported in your training. It's completely natural to feel a bit intimidated, especially as being in my late 50’s, but remember that age is just a number, and what matters most is your determination and dedication. The quote that I keep repeating, "Nobody said it would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it," is a powerful reminder of the challenges we may encounter on our journey, but also the rewards and fulfillment that come from persevering and pushing through those difficulties. It's a testament to ones resilience and positive mindset in embracing challenges and finding value in training. I will continue to enjoy and make the most of this enriching experience. With the support and guidance, there's no doubt we'll achieve great things. Keep up the hard work, and remember that it's never too late to pursue your passions and reach new heights. Come check out a BJJ class and best of luck on your journey!
