Gracie Barra Flatirons is an absolute gem for anyone looking to dive into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! The atmosphere is welcoming, the facility is top-notch, and the instruction is unparalleled. Coach Yan especially stands out with his incredible patience and skill, breaking down techniques with clarity and ensuring every student feels supported, no matter their level. As a father, I am grateful our daughters are being taught by Ian. Additionally, this gym is under the leadership of the legendary Professor Jefferson Moura, a 6th-degree black belt with a famous competitive history, the school delivers world-class training rooted in Gracie Barra’s proven curriculum. It’s the perfect place to grow, learn, and become part of a tight-knit BJJ community. Highly recommend
Posted 11 months agoI absolutely LOVE the Gracie Barra Flatirons gym. The staff is incredibly friendly and the professors are the top of the game. I highly recommend this gym for all levels of jiu-jitsu practitioners. Jiu-Jitsu at Gracie Barra Flatirons has completely redirected my life and helped restore my relationship with my daughter, who also trains at Gracie Barra Flatirons. This gym has been an integral part of my, and my daughters, growth. Thank you Gracie Barra Flatirons! Can’t wait to see the heights Gracie Barra will take me and my family!
Posted 12 months agoAmazing community and instructors! The program for kids is well-structured, fun, and engaging. Having been a collegiate wrestler and having more than a decade of experience as a multi-sport high school coach, I know what quality instruction looks like, and this is it! The classes are run with the right balance of empathy and compassion for kids and a sense of discipline and a no-nonsense let’s-get-to-work culture.
Posted 1 year agoMy daughter has been taking jiu-jitsu classes here for a few weeks now, and we’re absolutely loving it! She gets so excited to go to class and truly enjoys every minute. The instructors are amazing — patient, kind, and really great with kids. It’s been wonderful to see how much confidence, discipline, and joy she’s gained in such a short time. The environment is very welcoming. Highly recommend!
Posted 1 year agoAs someone with absolutely no experience with martial arts, GB-Flatirons was the perfect place for me to start training jiu jitsu. I highly, highly recommend it to anyone just starting out. The teachers are top notch. You get out what you put in, and they are really invested in their students. Facilities are always clean, and there is a culture is one of mutual respect, camaraderie, and safety. If you come with consistency, apply yourself, and work hard, you will learn so much about jiu jitsu (and yourself) in the process. Anyone who is considering which academy to join, this one should absolutely be on their list.
I’ve been training at this Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school for a while now, and I can confidently say it’s been an amazing experience. The black belt professors here are absolutely top-notch – they’re not only highly skilled but also incredibly detail-oriented, ensuring that every technique is taught with precision and clarity. As someone in my 40s with kids who also train at the school, I’ve been impressed with how well the pace and intensity of the classes are balanced. The training is accessible for someone like me, and I’ve been able to progress steadily without feeling overwhelmed. The professors are great at adapting techniques to suit different ages and skill levels, and I’ve seen the results in both my own progress and my kids’ development. Highly recommend this school to anyone looking to train in Jiu-Jitsu, regardless of age or experience level! Bruno
Both of my sons have been going to the Little Champions classes for about a month and they love it. Professor Yan and Professor Jefferson are great and they make it fun for the kids to learn!
GB Flatirons is a fantastic and welcoming place to train and begin your BJJ journey. They start you at the very basic fundamentals and make sure you are ready to move up into higher forms of BJJ. Customer service is also great and very helpful. The staff and your peers are welcoming and kind; it really feels like a family!
I love the connection that the professor Jefferson and professor Yan have with all the kids here!Bring your kid and you won’t regret bringing them.
We love GB Flatirons. Everyone is friendly and welcoming; Professor Moura is such a good instructor and is awesome with all ages. This was our son’s first experience with Jiu Jitsu and he is hooked. Highly recommend!
Excellent instructors and the environment here is awesome! My partner Soha just started last week and she loves this place and the vibe here! They have a wide variety of classes to choose from and…did I mention that the instruction is amazing. I’ve sat and watched a few of his classes, and it’s obvious that Prof Jefferson knows his BJJ very well and is able to convey the info to beginners as well as experienced people. Really good experience at Gracie Barra Flatirons.
The team at GB Flatirons is always so welcoming!
My son loves this place from the very first day, the environment is amazing- welcoming and very supportive. It’s a perfect mix of discipline, learning, encouragement and fun which keeps my son excited to attend every class. The instructors do a fantastic job!
The entire GBF team is so very friendly and helpful. The fundamentals classes are mixed skills up to purple belts joining the class. Everyone is very positive and helps each other work on form and technique. I was a little worried about the fact that I am a little out of shape - but the instructors meet you where you are. My kiddo is also taking classes. The kids classes are awesome and look so fun. I sit and watch and learn some stuff from the kids as well. ;-)
Felt welcomed as soon as I walked in. Head professors were amazing in their instruction and the training partner was awesome! If you’re thinking about trying JJ this is the spot! See you soon GB Flatirons!
I'm a blue belt visiting from Ohio and dropped in for a class while on vacation. Marcella and Professor Yan were great. Thank you for having me.
A GB School that brings top notch instruction to the community! Adults kids of all levels will have a great time here! Strongly recommend
We were lucky enough to train at Gracie Barra Flatirons while traveling, the instructor was fantastic, made us feel welcome and gave us great detailed instructions on techniques. Everyone was very friendly! The facility was beautiful and very clean. If you are looking to try Bjj in the area, I highly recommend going to Gracie Barra Flatirons.
Incredible academy with a Brazilian home feel. Professor Jefferson's attention to detail is amazing. Great community for all levels. Great training partners
Visiting from NY and was welcomed into this school to train during my trip. Great group of people, great instructors. Highly recommend for all levels!
Absolutely amazing facility and a family atmosphere. I travel a lot for work and thankful I have found a home away from home in Denver!
If you are searching for a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school to train, learn, and grow- Gracie Barra Flatirons is the place to be. It is truly a special place full of really wonderful people, high quality Jiu-Jitsu, and a great community. My advice would be- if you have the opportunity to train and learn under Professor Jefferson Moura and his team, absorb as much knowledge as you can. Professor Jefferson truly has a gift when it comes to teaching this amazing art- and he is by far the BEST Professor in Colorado (and probably the whole world!). Don’t be afraid to ask questions and explore how to improve your Jiu-Jitsu. I could say 1 million good things about having Professor Jefferson as my Professor, but then I would be here all day. Coach Yan is patient and kind in passing on his vast knowledge as well. If you get a chance to train with him- be prepared to laugh often and be inspired by his talent! One of the first people you’ll see at GB Flatirons will be Marcella, their Program Director. Marcella is always so welcoming and kind to all who come through the doors of the school. She is always there to answer your questions and cheer you on in your Jiu-Jitsu journey. Whether you are joining for your physical or mental health- this is the community that will support you in your goals. -Jess
The first thing you will notice about GB Flatirons is that they make you feel extremely welcome the minute you step in the door. Regardless of how busy the class is, or your ability level, you can expect to get world class hands on instruction from Professor Moura and Coach Ian at every training session. The gym is also extremely well run (thank you Marcella!) and is impeccably clean (pretty rare these days). Having a bjj legend like Jefferson Moura leading such a great team and creating such a first rate experience on the front range is something that anyone interested in bjj should check out....you also might learn a little Portuguese as well.
I can’t begin to tell you how impressed I am with Gracie Barra Flatirons in Colorado! The whole experience from the very start has been amazing! The training facility is new and always clean and in immaculate condition. The instructors are all so engaging and encouraging to the students, and the quality of instruction under Professor Jefferson Moura is world class! The best part is the community though and everyone who walks into the gym is treated like family. If you or your family are looking to train BJJ in the Broomfield CO area, look no further. Gracie Barra Flatirons is THE BEST!
Love our jiu jitsu family here at GB Flatirons! It’s such a unique experience being coached by Professor Jefferson, a world champion 6th degree black! I have moved a lot for work over the past several years and trained at jiu jitsu gyms in Georgia, California, and Colorado. I have had the most growth in technique, jiu jitsu practice, and just personal self growth during my time at GB Flatirons. I feel like there can be a stigma of ego associated with jiu jitsu as a martial art, but I have never experienced such a humbled and genuine environment centered on learning and growth as I have here. So thankful to have connected with this exceptional gym and the amazing people here!
Got my first stripe last week and this place already feels like home. Since day one, every person from every level has treated me like a brother. The camaraderie and fellowship is unmatched. Marcella is a saint. Jefferson is a legend. Ian is a perfect instructor. Before you know it… “he-gunna-tap” I can confidently say this is the best jiu-jitsu gym for at least 1,000 miles. This WILL change your life if you let it. This journey is more enjoyable than I imagined. I deeply look forward to every visit. I look forward to meeting you on the mat! -Mike D.
The technic at this school is next level, it is a great gym for all levels
An amazing Jiu-Jitsu gym, with some amazing teachers. Everyone is really friendly from staff to students. If you're just getting in to the sport, or if you've been in it for years, this is gym is for you.
Our family loves going to Gracie Barra Flatirons. The facility is incredibly clean, the instructors/professors are top notch, and Marcella is so kind and welcoming. GB Flatirons feels like a family. I would highly recommend this program to any adult or child interested in learning or perfecting their jiu jitsu skills, increasing their athletic ability, or improving their physical fitness.
I started going to Gracie Barra flatirons the day it opened and it has been the most amazing experience ever. Clean, humble, professional, challenging, commitment are all words that can describe the staff, facility, experience and fellow team members. If you want to experience not just a team environment but a family then come to Gracie barra flatirons!
The best place in Colorado. Professor Jefferson comes from a long line of great teachers and BJJ practitioners. If you want to eat the best chinese food go to someone from China. If you want to learn bjj go to a 6 degree brazillian black belt from Brazil !!!!!!!!!!!!
Very family friendly. Great place for kids and adults of all ages and skill sets! Staff is as professional as they come, instructors are very knowledgeable and know how to adapt techniques for any ability and skill level. Cleanest school I’ve trained at in Colorado. 10 stars!!!
Phenomenal school - I can't recommend it enough. For those not familiar with GB, the Gracie Barra structured curriculum is great for athletes at all levels of the game. You follow various 16 week + programs (fundamentals & advanced) with an hour of teaching, drilling, and specific training. These hour classes are followed by an open mat period where you can roll live with classmates. Professor Moura (6 degree black belt) teaches with a serious focus on detail and provides feedback to everyone in the class, regardless of the size. I'm continually impressed with his command of Jiu Jitsu and his patience in teaching and coaching. This gym itself is massive with all the amenities you'll need - multiple mats with plenty of room to accommodate large classes. Bathrooms, changing rooms, water fountains, and sitting areas. What really ties the experience together are those who train here. When you're on the mat you're with an incredible community. Guys and gals that are incredibly generous, fun, and also competitive. You'll immediately feel like a family here. Easiest 5 stars when it comes to a BJJ gym and a phenomenal workout.
I started my Jiu Jitsu journey in San Diego under Professor Ogawa where I fell in love with the Gracie Barra family, curriculum, and Jiu Jitsu. I moved to CO and learned Professor Jefferson Moura was opening a gym close by. If you’re new to Jiu Jitsu you might not understand how incredible it is to train under a 6th degree black belt. It’s essentially like learning from a PHD Harvard Professor. You’ll also never meet a nicer, warmer person. Coach Yan (Ian) who also teachers here provides incredible instruction. His attention to detail and personalized style really helps you understand Jiu Jitsu. The facility is amazing and everyone who trains here is warm and welcoming. The people you train with will turn into your extended family. There are no egos here, just an amazing group of people looking to better themselves and learn Jiu Jitsu. Jiu Jitsu is one of the best self defense martial arts you could learn. It’s not easy, but the journey will change your life. I can’t recommend this place enough. If you’re reading this review, come give it a try. You won’t regret it.
From the day we walked into Gracie Barra we have always felt welcome. Marcella is amazing at holding everything together, answering questions and getting you setup with your gear. Coach Yan and Professor Jefferson are fantastic with the kids; my daughter loves them! Watching her enjoy it so much, I joined as well. The benefits for both us physically and mentally are numerous and it gives us a chance to bond over something together and with the new friends we are making. At GB jiu-jitsu really is for everyone! The atmosphere is always friendly and the gym is very clean. We love GB Flatirons ❤️
I would recommend Gracie Barra Flatirons to anyone who wants to join a high level Brazilian jiu jitsu gym. I grew up in Florida where I visited many gyms and joined one in high school for jiu jitsu. After my experience, no gym I tried has matched Gracie Barra when it comes to technical training and having a welcoming atmosphere. You have nothing to lose because you learn to face challenges and get better over time, you can apply this to any area of life. You also get a great workout at Gracie Barra. Professor Jefferson is a 6th degree black belt and you can be sure to have world class training here.
Gracie Barra has been on my radar since 5yrs ago when a friend who trained at a location in San Clemente, CA spoke fondly. I decided to give BJJ a go, and the folks here - Professor Jefferson and his awesome wife/business partner Marcella - have been incredibly helpful, welcoming, professional, and just generally go above and beyond to be communicative and make you feel like family. If you are intimidated about coming in and giving BJJ a go, think again! GB1 (beginner curriculum) consists of: -a mild warm-up to prevent injury -followed by a series of detailed demonstrations of techniques by the instructor cadre & one-one time with a more experienced student to drill the technique -the final portion of the class is when you get to safely practice techniques in a realistic grappling scenario the instructors put you in with another student. -Instructors actively engage with students for the entirety of the classes, offering pointers, ensuring you are comfortable and learning, and offering additional coaching wherever needed! Safety feels like a priority here! and the students are all considerate of their own/each others' limitations.
Probably the BEST BJJ school in Colorado. Professor Jefferson Moura is a 6th Degree BJJ blackbelt that brings knowledge straight from the source and has unmatched coaching and competition experience. He was the one heading Gracie Barra in Brazil after Carlos Gracie Jr moved to the US and brings all of that to his school here. He is one of the most graduated BJJ professors in the US and is just opening his school here in Colorado. As someone who has trained with multiple professors around the country and internationally, I couldn't recommend this school enough.
The professors and community are great here. I immediately felt comfortable and like I was part of the team even with being brand new to this sport. The patience, attention to detail from the professors, and the ability to ask questions without worry make it easier to learn one of the hardest sports. Couldn’t recommend this facility enough
After having half a decade off from training jiu jitsu - I could not have found a better school to come back to learning this martial art. The quality of instruction is the best I have ever seen! Incredible facility with an incredible group of instructors and clientele. So happy to be here!
I had a great time training here! The owners are very kind and there is a great community of people here.
I started as a beginner here about 5 months ago and after checking out several gyms I landed on Gracie Barra Flat Irons. What I liked when I first started was the welcoming atmosphere, the coaching, and the fact I joined a young gym to grow with. Having trained now for 5 months I couldn't be happier with my decision. The coaches are great and make sure to note that everyone has their own journey in jiu jitsu, giving a focus on personal growth and learning at your own speed. Professor Moura is a world class instructor and person. I would highly recommend giving this gym a try.
Signed up to train here and couldn't be happier. Professor Jefferson is super knowledgeable and everyone is friendly and respectful! Clean mats, a nice big space, so happy to be training here
It was a dark and stormy mid-November night. The year was 2022. A gust of wind had toppled me over and I lay flat on the asphalt, too weak to best the strength and vigor of mother nature. I dreamt of driving to the nearest appliance store and purchasing a toaster, as it would accompany my Epsom salts well in the bath. Suddenly, as the wind howled overhead, a seraphic presence appeared in the peripherals of my waning vision. It was professor Jefferson Moura of Gracie Barra Flatirons. He grabbed me by the collar and said "First learn stand, then learn fly. Nature rule Mariah-san." The life flooded back into my frail, decrepit limbs. I shot 5 feet into the sky and a freshly washed gi appeared in my arms. My life has truly not been the same since.
Fantastic first experience here at Gracie Barra. The instructor really took care of me since it was my first class, he also explained all the skills and techniques in great details. The facility is really clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend this place to be the start of your Jiu Jitsu journey.
We signed up our 5 year old daughter here and couldn't be happier with the results. The Professors and coaches are incredibly experienced, providing a safe, fun, and positive learning environment for kids and adults alike. Our daughter who was easily the smallest kid in class loves attending and has grown in confidence with each passing week. Professor Moura and the coaches have a clear passion for teaching, a lot of patience, and they take great care to ensure the kids get the very best experience. There is even space for an old out of shape dad like me to get fit and learn some new skills in the process! The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, the facilities are first class, there is a very diverse range of skill levels ensuring that everyone can benefit from the classes. If you're looking to get yourself or your kids involved in Jiu-Jitsu, we highly recommend Gracie Barra Flatirons - sign up for one of their free classes and experience the difference for yourself! They really do live up to their "Jiu-Jitsu for everyone!" promise.

Joining GB Flatirons has been and continues to be a transformative experience for me and my family. My son has grown in mobility, strength, confidence, and social skills. I credit the culture Prof. Moura and Coach Ian create, which is of course an outgrowth of the GB history and philosophy. They are kind, affirming, welcoming, challenging, and, perhaps most importantly, fun-loving. It's always apparent how much they truly enjoy teaching and being with the students. And for me, I revel in the fact that I get to play - even as an adult. The joy I get from my time among my GB community on the mats is unlike what I get out of any other athletic pursuit I enjoy.
After training for 6 years I got my Black Belt in Shaolin Ch'uan Fa on September 25, 2021 from Z Ultimate at the age of 67, but I needed more and I wanted to learn Jiu Jitsu. I had been looking for a Gracie school for a long time and found one was going to open in August of 2022 in Broomfield Colorado. It was 20 minutes from to my house. The gym is beautiful, brand new and affordable. The staff was very attentive to my physical limitations and I felt comfortable and was eager to start training. The instructor Prof. Jefferson Moura is 6th degree Black Belt 2x IBJJF adult Black Belt World Champion, Multi Brazilian, European and Pan Champion. He is in the direct Gracie Lineage (Master Carlos Sr. Master Carlos Jr. Prof. Jefferson). Prof. Jefferson, his wife Marcella and Brown Belt Coach Yan make their students feel like they are family. One could not find a better place to practice Jiu Jitsu and be part of the Gracie Barra organization and Moura family.
I had a great experience visiting Gracie Barra Flatirons. Everyone was super friendly and the gym was top of the line. Definitely recommend checking it out!
I joined this gym on a bit of an impulse decision and I have to say it’s one of the better decisions I’ve ever made. Gracie Barra’s ideology is “Ju Jitsu for Everyone” and they really do stick to that. I joined as a complete martial arts beginner with little confidence in my own coordination and abilities, but after even a short time of being here (~1 month), I already feel much better about myself and I know that I can be successful at this gym long term. The students are all very accepting and friendly and make you feel comfortable, even when you may feel completely lost and Professor Moura is a world class competitor and teacher. I highly recommend giving this gym a try - You won’t regret it!!
The coaches and teammates are eager to help you thrive in the sport. The coaches provide a modern and very clean environment to train in. I have only taken 3 classes here and it already feels like a second family. This is definitely the best gym in the area!
Amazing jiu jitsu studio! Brand new, so well run, the staff is all amazing, you just get welcomed in as part of the Gracie Barra family right away!
My son loves this school! The instructors are exceptional with coaching kids and ensure that, no matter the skill level, each student receives the attention they need.
The environment, coaching, and camaraderie at Gracie Barra Flatirons is unmatched. The people here truly go the extra distance to make sure everyone feels noticed and prioritized. I truly can't say enough about the gym and the people here. Thank you to Professor Moura, Coach Yan, and Marcella for creating such an incredible setting and sharing such a special art.
Tried three different gyms to start my bjj career. The professionalism, facilities, and coaching at Gracie Barra was unmatched. Unlike other gyms, the coaches at GB hammer home every minute detail until your technique Is perfect. The structure of the class makes so that you get exercise, learn technique, and get live training on top of learning the proper etiquette that the founders off bjj intended.
Best place to come and train hands down
Learn from some of the best instructors in the world! Professor Moura and coach Yan foster a great learning environment.
This gym is the best gym in Colorado. The coaches are amazing and the environment is very welcoming and friendly. I got my first stripe today so I’ve been here for a month and love it here and will continue the journey.
This academy has greatly exceeded all expectations. I am new to Jiu-Jitsu but find it to be a great workout and stimulating to the mind with its challenging and intricate technical sparring while providing you with self-defense skills in a tremendously supportive environment from the academy’s amazing instructors and other students. Professor Jefferson Moura is the best Jiu-Jitsu instructor in the state with an obvious passion for teaching Jiu-Jitsu to all levels and abilities. My two sons and I have been hooked and my daughter now wants to join as well. I encourage everyone to not put off trying a free lesson to see if this is the place for you.
Just Had my first class today. Look I’m a big dude and I have NEVER done any martial arts including BJJ. My cardio is non existent. Professor Jefferson Moura was really great! Thorough with his explanation of the moves we were learning. He was patient with me especially with my huffing and puffing. Lol Overall today with Professor Moura and Professor Lukas helping and also Ian. Everyone was great. I’m not necessarily looking to become a competitive BJJ student, but I would love to learn more and the work out is pretty great. I absolutely recommend anyone looking for a workout or furthering your BJJ knowledge, this is the school. It’s brand new but it’s pretty great
