Sub 120lb female. Went to open mat yesterday (Sunday the 9th) from out of town. Exploring other gyms is always a bit scary! Unfortunately being a “smaller” fighter in the beginning you are definitely reliant on people letting you work. Good fighters, managed their weight, executed technique well, fun dudes! Great place for chills vacation flow rolls!
Phenomenal place to train. Very welcoming to people new to the sport. Large classes with a good variety of skill levels.

Had the opportunity to drop in here while vacationing with my family. Owner was extremely personable and welcoming. The instructors were very knowledgeable and created a great class atmosphere, and the members were great training partners and never let you feel out of place. Everyone I came across at this gym was helpful, friendly and seemed happy to have me as a visitor at their training facility, not to mention some very tough rolls. Would 10/10 recommend this gym for any belt level and I hope to be able to train there again in the future.
I dropped in while I was traveling to Phoenix for work, i felt very welcomed by not only the owner Nathan but the entire student body I trained with that night! Great instruction & great rounds with everyone. I will drop in again in the future.

I recently moved to AZ and was looking for a bjj gym to stay fit and active. I’ve went to a few different schools and no school matched the friendliness and welcoming nature of Gracie Arizona. Their class schedule is unbeatable, you’ll always find a class that fits your schedule. The price is very competitive and reasonable compared to other schools and the instruction is phenomenal. Most classes are thought by black belt and are taught in an engaging way that invites learning rather than just a do it because I said so type of style. I’ve been going to this gym now for 3 + years, it’s like my 2nd home.
8/2024 update: trained here for a year and half while I lived in Phoenix. This place really became my home outside of home and really solidified my love for BJJ. I love how each of the coaches brings something special to you game and really help to provide feedback on aspects to improve. Shout-out to Marco and Jeff for helping me establish my foundations. Dan for the little standup experience I have and the great open mats. John for the constant fear I have for my ankles haha. Greg for his phenomenal details and for always reminding me to do something with my hooks. And of course Nathan for building such a great gym and community. Have really missed training here since I moved!
I dropped in for a class today. They were super welcoming and I got some awesome rolls in. Great range of talent! 10/10 would recommend!
So many great things to say about Gracie Arizona . Its our kids first time trying jiu-jitsu or any martial arts for that matter and they love it! Nathan has the best team of instructors and staff. Our six year old took to it faster wanting to complete because his athletic nature while our eight year old just wanted to participate in class. There is zero pressure to compete but so much support to succeed!
Great school, amazing and highly skilled instructors. A place many call home. You won’t regret it, visit and see for yourself.

I was in town for a convention and I found Gracie Arizona to get a few rolls in before I head back home to Florida. Alex gave a warm welcome and had a great class followed by open mat. Alex and all of his students gave tips and helped out, really great experience. I highly recommend Gracie Arizona, I was very impressed!
Great family BJJ gym, well attended women's classes and kids' programs. There's also a good range of gym equipment - squat rack, pull machines, air bikes. Huge mat space. Friendly culture. They also run a quality competition class on Tuesdays and Thursdays and have lots of high level instructors. Multiple black belts on the mats on any given day.
This gym is my home away from home. I love it here. Only positive things to say about everyone!
I've been taking my son to the mighty might class here for several months and the coaches/staff have always been welcoming and supportive. The coaches display a great sense of balance; they have high expectations for the children, but they also get down to their level and empathize with them. My son has learned a lot and he's been challenged, but he's also having a lot of fun and he's forming meaningful relationships with the coaches/staff and classmates. I can't help but feel like his life has been enriched by this gym.
Had a great time rolling here! Dan, one of the instructors, made me feel welcome and was very helpful. As a matter of fact, everyone I encountered was about guidance, help, and safety. I'm looking forward to coming back!
This is the best place to learn and train Jiu-Jitsu in Arizona. Incredibly experienced staff with a lot of black, brown, and purple belts who create a very welcoming and family friendly environment. Great for beginners to advanced practioners. Self defense focused and submission based Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu which is very different than your normal sports Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) based schools which are 99% of the schools out there. I highly recommend that you try a class even if you have no experience and are out of shape. They will guide you and you will get in shape in a way that is much more fun than a treadmill or just lifting weights.
I’m a purple belt and I dropped into Gracie Arizona Jiu Jitsu for a two hour fundamental and sparring class. The people in the class were very welcoming, super cool, and rolled really hard. Our professor was exceptional. Learned some great new techniques, and they were super engaged. This place was awesome and can’t wait to come back!!!
Was in town for work and managed to stop in and check out one of their day classes. Everyone there was very welcoming, and I had a great time. I really liked the format of the class. The class is an hour and includes warm ups and then instruction/practice/application. There was an option to stay after class and spar. Highly recommend this place. I'll be adding them as a must-visit place whenever I'm on Phoenix.
I had the pleasure of training here while visiting from CT. I give the staff, trainers and members all 5 stars. I had experienced detailed instruction during class. During open mat there was good safe and respectful rolls to be had. I travel often and have hit many academys. Ive learned to appreciate a good mat as well. This place has all you want and more.

I hopped around a few different schools in the valley to find the right fit to train at; and Gracie Arizona’s level of expertise was transcendental in comparison. You probably can’t find another school in Arizona with this many black belts; and they’re all excellent instructors to learn from. Highly recommend and stoked to grow here. As someone who has been involved in jiu-jitsu for a long time, I can wholeheartedly recommend Gracie AZ for anyone from beginner to advanced. The pricing is beyond fair, especially for the quality of instruction. Virtually every class I took or witnessed was taught by black belts with extensive experience, and there was an ideal blend of patient, detailed instruction for beginners plus tough, competitive rounds for experienced grapplers. The vibe was warm, welcoming, and accommodating. Everyone was super friendly to me and my family when we were in town for just a couple of months. The facility is exceptional, from spacious locker rooms and plenty of mat space, to having lots of fitness equipment, to even a kids room with a DVD player and arcade machine to keep children occupied during parents or siblings classes. The kids program is massive, yet well-organized and thoughtfully run. I tried a few programs in the area and had my own daughter training there because I was so impressed. The schedule is balanced for a variety of needs and included classes for beginners, women's-only classes, self-defense focused classes, competition classes, etc... Honestly, I could go on and on about what they do right at Gracie AZ, it's as close to the perfect BJJ program as I have ever seen. I'll just close by saying it's a truly excellent academy and I would strongly recommend it to anyone in the Phoenix area.

This place has been like a second home to me. The students that attend here are awesome and funny folks who’ll make you feel welcomed once you step in and the instructors really care about your progress at every class. Jiu jitsu requires a lot of commitment and determination when it comes to advancing to the next level, but everyone will encourage you to stick with it as it is a very rewarding experience. Ive been training at this gym for years and have always been impressed with level of respect and unity among its members.
This establishment runs a comradery driven and ego free practice. I am still very new to BJJ but every time I have a question or roll with a higher belt, I am given encouragement and instruction. Do not come here to be macho, come to learn and grow with like minded individuals. It is always humbling.
Just finished my initial beginner class. Almost threw up. Had a great time. Good welcoming people. Ill definitely be back to become a member.

i've trained jiu-jitsu at several different places and this is by far one of the nicest academy's i've been a part of. I've been there for about 6 years now and we have several instructors and over 50 plus students with all different games and levels. Highly recommend this place, young and older to give it a shot. Kids classes, judo, Gi Jiu-Jitsu, Nogi Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Yoga, and across to way ( in the same building) is a large Crossfit area if you wanna up your game even more.

As an airline pilot I travel extensively and am always on the lookout for opportunities to train while away from home. I am a white belt new to Jui Jitsu and was a little nervous about training with strangers in an unfamiliar facility. I contacted professor Zigler and asked if I could attend that evening's class. He responded "absolutely, come on down". I'm so glad I did. Fantastic facility, welcoming atmosphere and super instructors. The academy has a policy of pairing white belts with higher ranked athletes while drilling new techniques and this proved to be most beneficial. The students were very helpful and I learned several tips and tricks to improve every aspect of my Jui Jitsu. I highly recommend professor Zigler, professor Moore and the entire Relson Gracie academy in Phoenix. I have found a home away from home and can't wait for the next opportunity to train there.

Teaching: 10/10 great instructors. Great members. Great community everyone is nice and friendly. Contacting anyone at the place: 0/10 I have attempted to contact the instructors or owner multiple times through the phone call, text , website and email and they have answered 2 phone calls out of all the multiple times I have tried to contact them. I never received a call back. I didn't want to do this but since it has to do with money I'm impatient. I cancelled my membership on the 14th and was still charged. on the 21. Why is that? Edit: Everything was fixed but seems like this is a place for learning and business side is meh. So positive and a negative
I’m only giving 2 stars because I can only get a hold of people through E-mail. I showed up when it said it was open and everything was locked up (Friday May 3 around 4pm) I tried calling the number via google. No response. I’m interested in classes because it’s less expensive than the Gracie jujitsu on 44th street. But if I can’t get a response that’s where I might go. I’m trying to be fair with this review.
Ghetto area plenty of homeless people (if that’s what your into). owner is a man child. Take your money elsewhere.
I was having a tough time throughout this tournament with the coaches not communicating with other teams that were there trying to support their own kiddos! This was supposed to be a happy, positive environment but it definitely gave my kiddo a lot of intimidation from the coaches and their teams family and friends. Not a place I would want my kid to associate with
Being at the AZ Championship people were there to root for their children. There were a lot of people and was chaotic. When my little one asked of way 2 grown people ( a women with red hair and a tall man) from this Academy blatantly looked at us then looked away completely ignoring us. Then that older guy told us to look elsewhere because they are occupying that area. For adults to act that way to a child is very childish and for a 6 foot man to talk to us like that my little one got scared. With sportsmanship and someone to represent your academy was very unprofessional and poor mannered. Way to go Gracie academy
