I have a 5-year old son and I like to keep him active. One of the things I wanted for him to learn is jujitsu. I did my homework and we tried a few places including here at G13. The attention, excitement, enthusiasm, instructions, and care that the staff here are giving to those kids is second to none. I’m glad we chose to be here, and I recommend this place to anyone that is looking to learn Jujitsu. Hands down a great overall experience.

The owners Roberto and Fabi are amazing people. The instructors here are highly respectable people and great teachers. The facility is very clean and the members are kind and welcoming. 10/10 would highly recommend this gym whether looking for a competition focused gym or just trying out a new sport.

My experience with this gym as a complete beginner was amazing. The instructors and members help each other out, and when its time for rolling, there is no mercy which is what martial arts competition should be. Sad thing I moved out, but would definitely come back if I can.

My 8yo daughter loves this place, she is learning and growing every class. She is always excited to go and has found a great group of friends! Coach John ‘Bagels’ is incredible with the kids, he is attentive and compassionate but commands respect and discipline! As an added bonus, my daughter and my husband both joined at the same time, so they get to share this!

This gym is amazing! We were only in Raleigh for 10 months and we learned so much under the teaching of Master Godoi and his team. From the start, we were welcomed into the G13 family. It is truly a family. People are friendly, respectful and encourage each other to constantly get better. Master Godoi often tells inspirational stories and he knows the names of each of his many students. There are students of all levels from beginner to very advanced and there are many classes available to accommodate everyone’s needs. The warmup exercises are really fun and there are many opportunities for rolling with good music in the background. The gym is bright and always very clean. Fabiana at the front desk is very helpful and resourceful. She was always available to answer all of our questions. We love this gym. We learned so much in our short time there and we were sad that we had to leave.

Visited a class here today as a guest from Oregon and I was incredibly impressed! Roberto was very friendly and welcoming, as were all of his students. The class was fundamentals and was very well run and I learned a ton in the hour. Rolled with multiple belt levels and they were all top notch! All of the students raved about Roberto and his gym and I can see why. Super super aweseome experience and if I lived here I would be training at G13 for certain. Initially joined out of peer pressure from our neighbors and ended up being the best decision for our whining, only child. The kids class and Coach Matthew has been amazing for reinforcing self-discipline and mindfulness. This has also been a great community full of team building activities for our kid and great source of physical activity for this gamer. The kids class has been a fun alternative to video gaming for a group of boys in our neighborhood-so glad their trying new experiences and doing some self care too! The Godoi family is amazing and Professor Godoi is a top-knotch competitor in the world. Love that the kids are able to have this learning experience from such a Jujitsu expert from Brazil 🇧🇷 right here in Cary! You won't be disappointed!

Roberto Godoi is an icon of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. I'm very happy to have him as my master. In the 30 years that I've been doing jiu-jitsu, I've met several masters who are also renowned, but none as great as master Roberto Godoi. I’m Brazilian, 5th Black Belt in BJJ, and I have lived here, in the US, for more than seven years and I’ve never found an academy that had the level of teaching and commitment of G13. I’m so happy to know that G13 has come to America, and master Roberto Godoi is here disseminating his knowledge, building great fighters and above all great human beings. Today I live in Florida but whenever I can, I try to go to North Carolina to learn a little more of the gentle art with my great friend and Master Roberto Godoi.

When I moved to Raleigh to be closer to downtown, I had to find a new Jiu Jitsu school because the commute to my old school was too long. I was quite nervous, as choosing a school is such a personal decision. G13 was the obvious choice for me after visiting three other schools throughout the Triangle area and receiving recommendations from previous training partners and coaches. For context- I’m a white belt and have been training since March of 2021. I practice jiu jitsu mostly with the Gi on and choose to focus on Godoi’s fundamental class in the evenings, although I’ve tried out the morning classes and No Gi classes and loved them both. When I set out on my search, I was looking for 3 main things out of a school: high quality instruction, great community, and class times that worked with my busy work schedule. This school offers all three, and so much more… High quality instruction: The school’s founder, Professor Roberto Godoi, is a legend. He received his black belt in 1996 and has an insane amount of knowledge. If you ask for help on a technique, he’ll ask you to demonstrate the technique you are working on, and he’ll know exactly what’s wrong and give you advice on what to do instead. He has a great mind for jiu jitsu and is a helpful teacher. Rather than teaching random techniques that have seemingly no connection to one another, the school offers lessons that repeat and follow a structure. Professor Godoi typically teaches a flow of techniques on Monday, expanding upon it throughout the week, and reviewing it on Saturday. This makes the material much more digestible and helps me learn. Great community: I’ve been to this school for 10 months and have been welcomed in with open arms. G13 truly is a family environment. We have cookouts and gatherings at the school and students’ houses. Every year the school hosts a belt ceremony here and also a camp in Brazil that you can attend which lasts a week. Good class times: I often work long hours and might miss a day during the week due to last-minute travel for closings and investor meetings. G13 offers classes after my work schedule in the evenings and early in the morning for folks who can get up for 6AM class. 😃 At the time of writing this review, there are four main instructors at the school: Roberto Godoi (Gi Fundamental and Advanced), John Telford (Gi Fundamental), Sean Zorio (Gi Fundamental), and Cheyne Kulessa (No Gi). They teach at different times and have a schedule on the website. We use the G13 app to manage check-ins, which helps the professors understand who is ready for a belt/stripe promotion. At the end of every class we roll with 5 minute rounds. This is a great time to practice the moves of the day or anything you’re working on. All of the upper belts I’ve rolled with tend to match your intensity level and care for your safety. This school focuses on sport jiu jitsu (as opposed to self defense curriculum, although many of what you learn here will also apply in real life). Godoi encourages you to compete (and will support you greatly), but by no means forces it on to anyone. There are many at the school who only train at G13 and don’t care about competing, and they’re treated the same as everyone else. The school also has a GREAT program for women. There’s a lot of them and they’re very supportive of one another. Clean mats and facility. The worst thing about this place is the more you go, the more you’ll want to go!

The instructors make sure the kids are learning, staying engaged, and having fun. Both of my kids have grown in their self confidence and self discipline while training here. There are a lot of options for jiu jitsu training, particularly in the triangle. I have trained at a few different schools over the past couple years as a permanent student, or visiting while traveling. Prof. Roberto Godoi has been in jiu jitsu for 30-something years, which makes for an awesome perspective in a martial art where it takes 10 or more years on average to reach a black belt. Godoi leads by example. He is still competing and winning at high level ibjjf tournaments - an 18 time panam winner, for example. The academy is focused on ibjjf competition over self defense, but I don’t see this as a negative per se. Lots of folks leave self defense bjj after awhile to expand their horizons in the art and try their hand at competition. Even if you decide not to compete, there is no pressure to do so and you will all help each other improve when your partners have a purpose for their efforts. Godoi’s school uses his G13 system, which means that rather than teaching whatever random technique he feels like teaching during a given class, he follows a system of repetitive reinforcement. This is particularly helpful for new students to jiu jitsu. Unlike at some schools where new students are getting lost trying to follow advanced, multi-step techniques in their first week that they may not see again for weeks or months later (see prior statement), new students spend time to perfect a smaller number of moves, and then build on those over time. Another thing that separates Prof. Godoi’s system is the emphasis on the stand-up aspects of jiu jitsu often ignored at other academies. Each sparring session starts on the feet, which better prepares students for tournament, or ultimately, for self defense too, where all encounters start standing. When you are looking to start jiu jitsu for the first time, take note of the beginner’s curriculum, how students take in techniques at a given class, and whether the school works on takedowns. If you are new to the area and have been training awhile somewhere else, the academy in Cary is full of excellent students of all levels, from white to black belt. You are sure to get competitive, technical rolls at this school. G13 is a family business. The Godois try to promote a caring atmosphere, and the school hosts events throughout the year, including a very nice ceremony to honor promotions that is unique in my experience. It is more formal in terms of gym etiquette than some other academies. G13 definitely still has strong roots in Brazil and if travel there to train is something you would enjoy, the school offers opportunity to do so. I met some awesome folks when I was training here that I still cheer on. Though I’m at a G13 affiliate school closer to home now, I look forward to returning some day when my schedule allows. If you live or work near Cary and this school is nearby, do yourself a favor and check it out. They offer classes just about every day of the week morning, noon, and night. For anyone, the mats are quality and clean.

Just moved to NC from NJ. Been practicing BJJ for 12 yrs. To be honest; I didn’t even know who Master Godoi was, but from the moment I stepped through the doors of G13 he acted like he knew me for years. Great teaching style for techniques, focuses on each student individually to help them where they struggle, and all around very motivating on the mats. The students as well have a very tight bond; regardless if a competitor or recreational practitioner. They even having a growing kids program that is doing wonders from what I see! The facility itself is one of the cleanest I’ve ever been in; you can tell the love the Godoi family puts into it. Overall I’d 100% recommend it for even just a visit; but if choosing a regular academy to train at, you can’t go wrong with signing up at G13.

Best academy in the Raleigh area, hands down. The facility is beautiful, clean, neat, big and very welcoming. The knowledge and experience that Roberto Godoi brings to this area is immeasurable ; He is a 6th degree black belt with over 30 years of experience in teaching, competing and mostly, running a great and renowned business. My son has been training there for few months and has been learning way more than just Jiu Jitsu. The instructors talk a lot about discipline, respect, team work, camaraderie, and that also goes for adults. It's a great environment to train.I've been around Jiu Jitsu world for over 2 decades and I can assure there's no other place in the area, like G13.

The HQ has a very positive environment, very clean and spacious. You get taught and train directly with Godoi, he is very patient, friendly and nice. I've trained with master Roberto Godoi and the G13 Team since 2018 and the experience could not be any better - apart from the excellent learning environment, supported by some of the best athletes in the sport, the team itself feels like family. Training with G13 has been a great opportunity not only to sharpen my BJJ but also to make friends for life - strongly recommended.

I started training BJJ in another team that is very famous, but my class was abandoned by the teacher and the team was unable to replace him. It was in this situation that I met G13BJJ in 2012, when I was still a white belt and there I graduated black belt in 2019. G13BJJ is very professional, with well-defined methods and rules for classes and graduation, but what kept me going with G13BJJ was the daily life with the brothers that the mat gave me there.

After being off the mats for 6 years, I joined the G13 jiu jitsu a month ago. Couldn't be happier with lessons, environment and specially atmosphere... everyone is humble and ready to teach something. Great place to train and make friends.

I've trained with master Roberto Godoi since 2016 and i’ve been graduated as a Purple Belt in 2019 and still learn the best lessons about friendship, self defense and honnor inside and outside of the mats under G13jBJJ flag. Now the BJJ community in North Caroline are blessed with world class brazilian jiu-jitsu, with our lion king and real old school figthter. Long live to the G13 BJJ US HQ !

Godoi is a leader, he help us to be a better person, doens't matter if you are athlete or not, he will support you. Also you make friends for life, you can improve you yourself learning about jiu jitsu, lifestyle and more. I'v been trainn with him more than 12 years, I m not athlete, but, i have in my mind one frase that he told me "Riding a bike you get there too, not to fast like a motorcycle, but you get there"
