This is a great place to train! Whether you have just started your MMA journey or have been training for years, professor Jeremy and the rest of the coaches make all feel welcomed. As a woman, I’ve never felt intimidated or out of place for being there. The coaches are encouraging and genuinely want you to learn and love the art of BJJ.
Posted 1 year agoEspiritu jujitsu is a welcoming spot for anyone who is looking to be more active. It’s not only good for the body but the mind, professor Jeremy has built a safe place for people of all backgrounds I would highly recommend this school!
Posted 1 year agoOverall, a great place to train. Instructors are knowledgeable and help guide newcomers through important fundamentals, while also providing advanced training for competitors. The integration of Judo and Wrestling are some of my favorite aspects. The community is awesome and being located next to the marina is a big plus.
We found this place two years ago on a recommendation from a friend in LA who noticed this academy consistently doing well at competitions. I knew nothing about BJJ. It was a perfect place for my two children. It took several months to gain some proficiency (as with any new sport), but they now love it and cannot wait to go to class. Professor Jeremy and the coaching staff are top-notch. IMHO - they’ve mastered the balance between patience and hustle.
Couldn’t have found a better jiu jitsu academy for my daughter and myself. Professor Jeremy, Coach Carlos, Coach Ethan and the rest of the coaches always make the academy feel very welcoming. All the classes from the little bears, kids, teens and adult classes are very structured. The community within the academy has been amazing. Being able to have the support from the upper belts and support from other training partners is always a plus. I would definitely recommend coming in and trying out a class for anyone that is interested.
Great place to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! Professor Jeremy and all the coaches are excellent teachers. Instructions are very clear and easy to understand!
I’ve been going here for over 5 years. The owner and instructors are all amazing and top notch. The other students here are also all great training partners and feel like family. It’s a great community that is very welcoming. I can’t recommend this place enough!
Legit dojo with high standards. Everybody gets the same training and opportunity to grow. You also meet awesome people from all walks of life who mentor, support, and inspire you throughout your journey.
Amazing academy! Instructors and coaches are super kind and helpful , I have trained at the academy for about 3 years now and I’ve had nothing but good experiences in this academy. Training is intense but people in there are always nice and willing to help! Coaches really do care about your overall improvement in the sport and are very supportive. I definitely recommend this spot for anyone interested in trying out the sport!
We have tried everything and our six year-old would not open up. We met Jeremy. He introduced us to coach Ethan and my son opened up within the first hour he was super excited to come back the second day we get home and the first thing he says I miss Coach Ethan Five stars isn’t enough of a rating if your child is struggling to open up definitely hire coach Ethan at Espititu BJJ
This is a great place to train! Whether you're just learning about jiu jitsu, you've had some sort of martial arts training, or have trained for years, this academy is welcoming to all! Professor Jeremy is patient with all students and makes sure you not only understand the how, but also the why. My wife began training a few months ago and even she loves it!
Awesome place, good environment, good music, a really good approach to the martial art with good instructors, everybody is very welcoming, diverse schedules so every has opportunity to train, amazing workout, amazing place for someone that wants more then a challenge for themselves.
Professor Jeremy and all of the coaches are super friendly. I was admittedly very nervous when I was first starting to attend classes, everyone here makes you feel incredibly welcome. The classes have very good mix of technicality and self defense. The most striking thing to me is how Professor Jeremy ties in movements and how they are used in Jui Jitsu and how they may be used for self defense. Overall I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a structured workout or the self defense aspect!
Was looking for BJJ place a long time and was extremely lucky to have found this gem in Oxnard. Instructors push you to be your best. Tough fighters, yet compassionate on and off the mat. Jeremy is passionate about the art; demanding excellence in the smallest details.
Awesome place to train. Professor Jeremy is the best at teaching and Coach Carlos leads the lunch classes. The people who train are very cool and always help each other learn. I am fat and lazy and this team has helped me get back on the warriors path.
I love this place. Professor Jeremy makes learning fun, exciting and uses humor to lighten up things. I never feel pressured or unsafe in class. You can freely ask questions and your teammates are always willing to help. There’s a diverse training schedule with kids, teens, and adults. This makes for a family experience. I’m in my 40’s and training and I had some reservations when I started. Professor quickly dispelled all those fears. When I stopped showing up to class due to changes in my career Professor Jeremy reached out to me to see why I haven’t been coming to class. I had already paid for a yearly membership and when he checked up on me I ran down to him why I haven’t been coming. But I promised him I’d be back and I’d be making some changes in my career to get back. If you’re serious about learning and scared to make the leap this is your sign and the place to do it at. He also offers private lessons and is totally approachable. I recommend this place to everyone.
Great teachers! Really help kids build their self esteem while teaching them about Brazilian Jujitsu.
Always a great place to train. Jeremy is a great teacher and provides a clean, positive atmosphere. Top notch rolls here... I visit anytime I come into town.
I started training at Espiritu Jiu Jitsu and Jiu Jitsu in general for the first time last year in 2021 at the ripe old age of 35 yrs old; as a full -time farther/husband , full-time student and full-time employee I have plenty of excuses not to train. Professor, Jeremy has created a easy to learn curriculum combine with a welcoming environment for people of all ages and experience interested in Jiu Jitsu. I recommended anyone who is interested in joining a gym that they give Espiritu Jiu Jitsu a try.
Professor Jeremy provides a well balanced training environment for beginners, as well as more advanced Jiu Jitsu artists. The curriculum is taught with a systematic approach with an emphasis on fundamentals - which includes wrestling and judo. The sense of community is strong within this academy and that all starts with Professor Jeremy, and his wife Meyann. They are welcoming, fun, and caring and it shows with the students that show up each and every day. Its a blast to train here and I highly recommend it to ANYONE. Lastly, Espiritu BJJ also has a phenomenal kids program. Watching young people meet good friends, work hard, build confidence, and find out what they're made of is what its all about and Professor Jeremy and his coaches - Daniel, and Aymee - do a fantastic job at taking care of the students. This academy is AWESOME. :)
Super nice people , felt welcomed from the start!
Trained at various Jiu Jitsu studios from OC to LA county. This studio provides excellent instruction for all levels. Family oriented and friendly staff always willing to answer questions.
Where can I even begin! The academy itself is beautiful, it's zen like. Almost as if you're stepping into a meditative studio, except you're gonna be rolling around w the toughest people I know. The amenities are wonderful, clean bathrooms, a nice little gym in the back, and a dressing room. A big plus is that it's very clean and cozy!!! I went to up my game for self defense, but I stayed because of the people - especially our professor and his wife. Professor knows what he is doing, he's patient, attentive, and is willing to push you to become better. The classes are challenging but not impossible, and you're free to ask for more instruction. The people are kind and helpful, I simply cannot ask for a better academy. Once you walk in you automatically feel like you're home. Thank you professor!!!
It's very humbling stepping into something new. Been training and teaching in TKD for 22+ years and I decided to start learning Jiu-Jitsu for a few reasons: 1)To step out of my comfort zone - I've always dreaded doing ground work. It was very much like my first few years sparring in TKD. Always working my self up before a round even started. Using brawn over technique. Glad to say I feel more and more comfortable with every session. 2) My ACL/Meniscus surgery rehab left me limited on what I could do in terms of activities and this definately was a different kind of cardio but it really helped in getting me comfortable and active again with my limits at the time. Now I'm seeing those limits disappear as I start to get back into the sparring flow of my own activities. Professor Jeremy Espiritu really knows his stuff. All my classmates there have been a big help and continue to show that support with every fist bump! Thanks for the patience and the knowledge so far Sir! I just gotta keep the momentum rolling! Thinking about trying out? Well stop thinking about it and just come in! We always need good people like you!
I have been training off and on for years. I've been to many different bjj schools while traveling across the states, but this one is definitely one of a kind. Jeremy is an amazing instructor. He not only teaches a technique, but teaches you the reasons behind the techniques. Instruction is absolutely top knotch. I learned so many little details ive never picked up upon, in just two days. His team is very welcoming and inviting. I felt like I was apart of the family once I walked through the doors. I can't give enough praise to Espiritubjj. I'll be coming back each and every time I'm in town.
It’s a friendly environment where everyone wants you to do well and succeed at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Everyone is welcoming, and Professor Jeremy does a phenomenal job teaching us various techniques to improve ourselves. Come try it out if it’s the right fit for you! Thank You Professor Jeremy!
Great people and professor. Amazing academy. They have a free trial too!
Professor Espiritu comes from a legendary lineage so it's not surprising that the quality of training here is superb. Moreover, the positive training atmosphere is just contagious. Everyone here always seems to be having a great time. Mostly in part due to Professor Espiritu's energy. There's also plenty of parking available so you won't have to use your jiu jitsu on a road raging lunatic trying to steal your spot.
I’ve been studying BJJ with Jeremy Espiritu since just after he earned his black belt. It has been a true honor to witness his growth and mastery all these years, not just as his friend, but as a student. His dedication to this physical art form has empowered me to find mastery in my own life’s passions. Learning from Jeremy has never been anything short of thrilling. Our lessons have pushed me to my limits and taught me more about my body than I ever thought possible. I’ve discovered a deeper understanding of myself as a whole. Each lesson together priceless and exciting to work through. I truly believe that this sport is best taught by Jeremy Espiritu. He is an instinctually detailed instructor, always looking out for your best interest. I commend Jeremy for the decades he has spent mastering BJJ, and the many more ahead as a highly-skilled instructor.
You'd be hard pressed to find a more talented instructor within 100 miles of this place. Professor Espiritu is has built a haven for BJJ at this picturesque location. If you haven't stopped by I encourage you to drop in and have a roll. Whether you're just starting out or are a seasoned vet, you'll be glad you did.
Just started here and immediately having a blast! Came in a total newb, but the atmosphere was so friendly and supportive I didn't feel nervous long. Professor Espiritu has a great disposition for teaching, and provides just the right balance of push and patience. I really enjoy hearing him explain the history and rational of every new move he teaches. The humor he throws into mix just makes it even more fun! Great time for beginners and advanced! You learn so much it makes all the sweat worth it. Highly recommended!
Jeremy Espiritu was one of my first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coaches and he is awesome. First off, he makes classes fun and engaging with his great communication skills and sense of humor. Second, its a great workout. The drilling and cardio mixed into his classes keeps you sweating and moving for an hour. Third, he is just a great guy to be around. Dedicated family man who genuinely cares for his students. Highly recommend.
Great workout and fantastic teacher! The instructor was friendly, and shared lots of detail as he taught the class techniques. I highly recommend Espiritu Jiu Jitsu for people who want to learn BJJ and more advanced students as well.
