I love training here. Michael, the teacher, is top notch. He's extremely generous with his knowledge and can just as easily share the nuances on self defense vs. competition. The students are welcoming, patient, and very easy to get along with. Since coming here, I've watched my self-confidence and growth as a person improve to where I feel I can take on any challenge life has to offer. I wish Google allowed 6 stars as 5 stars just aren't enough :)

I’ve trained with Michael for couple years. To be honest you will be impressed by his superb techniques and knowledge. Different as many other bjj instructors who neglect standing techniques, Michael also has excellent takedown skills. All in all It’s hard to see a bjj master has such details and experience in the Great Boston area.
A great place to learn to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I was looking for a place to continue training after I finished high school and college wrestling. High-level instruction with a strong emphasis on pure BJJ fundamentals. We also train gi and no-gi.
Dropped in to attend an Open Mat at Empower BJJ...Michael and Alissa were very welcoming. The gym is clean and simple - no frills, just solid BJJ. There was the option of drilling, and a little instruction before we finished the open mat session with rolls. Solid rolls here, everyone is very respectful. Michael Fontes is a very technical teacher - this is going to be great for the community!
