A great gym with a positive vibe and a strong sense of community. Defo check out the Instagram page @durinhobjj The head coach, Michel, is a BJJ black belt with an incredible teaching style that makes learning BJJ and MMA enjoyable and effective. He has created a gym with a fantastic atmosphere, with a welcoming environment for both beginners and experienced practitioners. Whether you're looking to start your BJJ journey, improve your skills, or just drop in while traveling, Durinho BJJ is the perfect place. All levels are welcome, and drop-in classes are available which is great for travelers passing through Galway or if you just want to try it out with no commitment. I've been training at Durinho BJJ for over a year and I can't recommend it highly enough!

I've started training in Durinho BJJ few months ago and I can't highly recommend this place. Location wise, it's in the middle of town which makes it really easy for me to train at lunch time and evenings. Also, the head coach is a Brazilian black belt competitor and has such a great way of teaching the art. The gym has a sauna and cold plunge which comes handy for recovery and the overall vibes are super good.

I'm working with Durinho since 2018. I trained in several gyms in the last decade, but no one was as skilful and helpful as Michel. If you're looking to start BJJ or improve your skills, this is the place to go.

Michel is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt who's been an instructor in the Galway BJJ community for the past 6 years. He's learned his skills from the one and only Eduardo Santoro, a freakin' legend in the sport. Michel is proudly part of the ESJJ team, which has an epic reputation in BJJ. This guy has been competing and coaching for over 20 years, so you just know he's the real deal. His training is heavily influenced by Max Tombini, another bigshot in the world of BJJ and Judo. They've even spent extended periods of time training together. But wait, it doesn't stop there. Michel's affiliation with Paolo Horitos takes things to a whole 'nother level. Paolo is a Black Belt under Max Tombini and they're not just training partners, they're actual friends. It's this lineage of badass mentors and masters that forms the foundation of Michel's journey to becoming a BJJ expert. So, if you decide to train with Michel, you're not just learning the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, you're joining a freakin' legacy that goes back generations. It's a journey of personal achievement and a total dedication to being a martial artist.

Hands down the best place to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitzu in Galway, Professor Michel is a fantastic teacher. The facilities in the train station gym are brilliant and there’s a great community in and outside of the mats, which is exactly why I started in the first place. If you’re looking to get into BJJ , upskill or are just stopping by while in Galway, then this is the place to be 🤝
