  Starting Jiu Jitsu in my mid 40s felt intimidating to say the least. I had zero experience and a million questions. Defiant Jujitsu in Woodbury erased those nerves from day one. The coaches are down to earth, patient, and genuinely excited to see each member progress. Whether you are brand new or a veteran perfecting your scissor sweep, they meet you at your level and push you just the right amount. The community they've built is equally impressive. Everyone greets you by name, regulars are happy to newcomers, and the vibe is supportive rather than competitive. I have loved it so much that my son now trains here too, and it is amazing watching him discover his own passion on the mats. If you are curious about jiu jitsu but worried about starting late or starting from scratch, give Defiant a try. You will find a welcoming gym, excellent instruction, and a community that truly wants you to succeed.

  I trained here for a month while visiting family. The facilities are clean and there's plenty of mat space. Coach David was amazing to learn from. The students were friendly and easy to get along with. Coach Kenzie teaches the kids class. She's really great with the children. 10/10 a wonderful place to train at.

  Great place to train! Defiant offers pretty much everything you need: skilled instructor, supportive training partners, and an unbeatable vibe. Whether you’re aiming to grow as a competitive BJJ athlete or just looking for a relaxed spot to enjoy some quality rolls, this is the place. I’ve trained with Dave (head coach) countless hours and what I love the most about his approach of teaching is that he caters to not only sport bjj but actual self defense techniques.

  I’ve been to a number of BJJ gyms and followed Coach Dave here when he opened such is my belief in him. Dave’s pedigree speaks for itself and he demonstrates and teaches top level Gi and NoGi BJJ. Modern, sport Jiu Jitsu is practiced here in a welcoming and inclusive manor. All levels and ages (thank you for the spring mats) are catered for. Competitors are honed and supported, hobbyists are embraced. Great philosophy and culture. We’re all expected to be intelligent adults on the mats and look after one another. Classes are packed with activity and there’s lots of open sparring as well. Dave and Kenzie run an amazing gym. The mats and the facility are always meticulously clean. Nice weight and fitness gym area is available for members. Kenzie runs fantastic kids classes as well as a women’s open mat. Glad to be in before everyone finds out about this place.

  I used to train with Coach Dave at a different martial arts gym, and when he opened Defiant I followed him there just because of how much I love his approach to Jiu Jitsu! He's a very open-minded and kind coach, and Defiant is an ideal training spot. Both Dave and Kenzie crafted something special (mats, weight lifting area, and overall atmosphere) and I definitely recommend checking it out if you're looking to try/continue Jiu Jitsu training in a focused setting!
