I started training with Dark Matter Jiu Jitsu almost a year ago and I can confidently say this is the best gym ever! I love the culture here and everyone is so kind and welcoming. The coach is very attentive and offers lots of guidance and advice to help us become better every day. Most importantly, I feel very comfortable and safe training here. I highly recommend Dark Matter Jiu Jitsu!
Best place to train in Tempe. Awesome new location with a ton of space.
Dark Matter is the second dojo I've been to, I would rank it higher than the first one, and I find it hard to think of something negative. The overall vibe is nice while we are all playing seriously. Courses are structured in a fairly practical way, for example you would engage in many sorts of situational drillings even if you don't intentionally do free drillings at all. Korey, our coach is definitely legit. Besides being a black belt, he manages to explain mechanism in an intuitive manner which makes complicated technics digestable. Btw, the dojo has just relocated to a new place. It is spacious, stylish and with great AC effect!
Dark Matter BJJ is awesome. Great instruction, welcoming atmosphere, and a supportive community make every session a great time. If you're looking for a gym I highly recommend you stop in for a trial class!
Dark Matter Jiu jitsu is a great place to learn bjj! the people there are amazing, Korey is a great teacher and the environment is perfect! the people there are like my home away from home! 10/10
Great instructor, great culture, very fun place to learn and grow
I’ve trained at a few gyms before and dark matter by far has one of the best environments I’ve ever been around, the classes for no gi are structured in a really fun way and I leave every day feeling like I can apply what I learned.
Been training for about a year, with no prior experience. I love it here. The people, the instruction, the vibe is just so good. I’m always looking forward to training. Coach Korey is not only high level jiu jitsu athlete himself, he’s also an incredible instructor. I’m always asking questions, and he consistently gives clear and helpful tips. Korey also offers competition training, if you’re planning on taking jiu jitsu seriously. If you’re curious about getting into bjj, this is the place.
Great place to learn BJJ. The atmosphere is great with great instruction and camaraderie amongst the students. Martial arts gyms can be intimidating for people that are new to the art, but you should not have any reservations here. Great mix of students as well.
Whether you’re looking to compete, get in shape or find a new hobby. Dark Matter is the place to train.
Great place to come learn a valuable life skill. Everyone there is friendly and helpful and just want to see you succeed.
Dark Matter JJ is great, Korey is an awesome instructor and the whole school is kind, accepting and honestly fun to be around. Any time I take a day off I’m dying to get back. I love how Korey teaches in blocks- ie: “the next few weeks are single x guard..” what to do from both positions. I really like how I am able to improve my confidence in the spot before we move onto the next one. As a beginner it’s “simple” to follow along. I’ve experienced other instructors and I definitely prefer how Dark Matter JJ teaches. I’ve learned so much! Our comp training and comp team experience is one of a kind. If it’s something you are looking for the process helps you feel ready and allows you to be successful! They also offer education bimonthly about keeping joints and areas of your body healthy which is unlike any other school. It’s a cool benefit !
Look no further if you want to learn BJJ! Everyone is very welcoming and makes it a fun place to train at. Coach Korey is extremely knowledgeable, detail oriented and has a unique way of teaching and explaining techniques. He incorporates a lot of situational training and games which makes the class fun and useful for students on all levels. I have been training here for about 9 months and do not see myself going to any other gym!
Great instructor ! Unique trainings for all levels. Korey is patient and beyond knowledgeable ,
Fantastic gym to train at. Showed up without any prior martial arts or BJJ experience, and the entire gym was very welcoming to newcomers. Have been going 9 months now and can't picture going anywhere else, Korey is a very high level practitioner and a great instructor, makes learning jiu jitsu a great experience. Whether you are just getting started in your journey or you are experienced and looking for a new gym, this is the place to be.
Fantastic and affordable gym, great for ASU students looking into Jiu Jitsu
Top tier coach, top tier people. Great place to train.
Dropped in for no-gi. I travel for work and have been to dozens of gyms. Great instruction, clean, and good gym culture. No egos in the room or unsafe practices going on. Good for first class or more advanced. Great job Korey and Michael and thank you for the opportunity to work with you and your students.
Great gym! Very friendly people and knowledgeable instructors. It's definitely worth checking out if you are looking into Jujitsu AZ.
Great environment with a fantastic coach. If you're looking to do some jiu jitsu in the area I highly recommend giving it a try. Very welcoming, and guarantee you'll have a great time
Instructor is cool / chill guy. Like the atmosphere a bunch.
Super friendly and welcoming culture. Doesn't matter if you have trained for a while or are staring out brand new, the quality of people and instruction is high. From what I hear other gyms charge this place is also a bargain. Highly recommend if you need a hobby that is both challenging and fun!
I wanted to start BJJ because of self defense, and searched for the nearest gym to my university. I was insanely lucky when I found this place. I started attending Dark Matter for several months and getting to know the patrons as well as the coach, Korey. Everyone here is nice, respectful, and very funny. When it comes to the actual jiu jitsu, coach Korey's teaching can only be described to be tactical and extremely detailed. In my time I have been to multiple "prestigious BJJ gyms", and no instruction comes even close to Korey's. Every student attending Dark Matter can say the same. If you are interested in starting or getting better at Jiu Jitsu as well as meeting new people, Dark Matter is the place to go.
The expert level instruction from Korey coupled with the welcoming and diverse group of students have made Dark Matter one of my strongest passions. Of course learning Jiu Jitsu is awesome but the biggest benefit for me is how much weight I've dropped and how much stronger I've become. Just be prepared to buy a new wardrobe. I've had to twice!
I’ve been training here for a little bit over a year now and couldn’t imagine training anywhere else. The classes are structured, but always contain enough variety to keep it fun and interesting. The instructor Korey is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to the art, and he’s very good at breaking down movements and concepts into understandable systems. The classes aren’t tiny, but small enough that you get constant feedback and instruction from the instructor and upper belts. One of the coolest parts of Dark Matter is the vibe. People come from a variety of backgrounds, but everyone laughs, jokes and gets along.. so even the tough training days are something you don’t want to miss out on. If you like to have fun while you work hard and get good at choking people, I’d come check this place out 🤙 5/5 would recommend.
I recently started and I was hesitant at first, because of old injuries. However, what lead me to continue coming would be the welcoming atmosphere and understanding instructor. I am quite glad that I am able to learn how to gauge my pain and rehab my injuries in a place where people are also mindful. I mean who can ask for more when the community and instructor are willing to help, friendly, considerate and lively.
Best gym in town!! Korey is an amazing instructor and the teammates all leave their egos at the door. would not train anywhere else!
Dark Matter Jiu Jitsu has been a great experience for me thus far! I am pretty new to it, but everybody, including the teacher Corey have been very supportive and encouraging. I’d recommend Dark Matter Jiu Jitsu to anybody!
Great place to train! Lots of cool people in a friendly and welcoming environment. Instructor Korey is an incredible teacher; he points out all the little details that make huge differences. I’ve been training here for almost a year and I have loved every bit of it. I’ve done trials at other classes, but nothing compares to Dark Matter.
The gym has an amazing atmosphere and even better instruction. One of the best experiences I have ever had doing a sport and I would 100% recommend for anyone even slightly interested in trying BJJ.
Been going on and off for a couple months now. Cory breaks down each move in digestible step by step instrustions that build on eachother each class. It's a great atmosphere for all levels. Reminds me of being back on a college ball team. If you're reading this and on the fence of giving it a shot, I highly recommend coming in at least and trying it once. Its okay to feel out of place one of the more advanced students will show you the ropes.
This gym has become one of my favorite places. The coach is amazing, the community is really encouraging and filled with such good people, and I love the challenge that learning jiu-jitsu presents. I recommend this gym to anyone that feels the need to shake things up in their life or wants an addicting new hobby and a dope community to go along with it.
Great place to train! The coach, facility, and students are all awesome.
I came in for open mats as an out of towner. Everyone was warm and inviting. Thanks again
I cannot say enough good things about Dark Matter Jiu Jitsu! From the quality of instruction from Coach Korey Kerber to the friendliness of other students, the Dark Matter environment and community is truly one of a kind! Things to expect when you join us: 1. Lots of laughter - we truly enjoy each other and everyone who comes on the mats is treated like they’ve been there forever. There are lots of jokes and we always have fun. 2. A coach who is truly invested in your success - Coach Korey offers clear and concise instruction and is always open to answering any questions or work through any situations your mind can concoct. He gives you one-on-one attention whether you are a casual practitioner or an established competitor. 3. A safe, but challenging environment - all students are here to learn and make each other better. There is no tolerance for egos or bullies, just friendly competition. So come in and take a class with us. We can’t wait to meet you!
I've been taking BJJ classes for a couple years now but have had a hard time finding a school (my previous schools closed when the instructors moved out of town). Dark Matter Jiu Jitsu started up right when I was looking again so I thought I'd check them out and I'm glad I did. Kory, the lead instructor, has incredible technique and describes things in a way I understand. He also tends to layer his classes, so what we learned on Monday rolls into what we learn on Tuesday, etc. I feel like I am progressing at a much faster pace than any other school I've attended because of this approach. Everyone here is laid back and chill, we work hard and have fun but no one has an ego which is refreshing. I really enjoy classes and this group of people, I just wish they were around when I started my BJJ journey years ago!
High quality people and high quality instruction. If you are looking for a place to learn Jiu jitsu look no further. Whether you are just getting started or have been training for years you will find what you are looking for at dark matter.
