I've made a lot of mistakes in my life. Joining this club, was not one of them.
I’ve been loving the women’s and fundamental classes. Inclusive and welcoming!
Joined a class as a walk-in visiting from out of state and was very impressed. Atmosphere was great. I really enjoyed the format of the class. Phill was a great instructor, and the open rolls were respectful. I can't wait to return.
I’ve trained here for 3 years…best BJJ gym in Denver. Great students and instructors! More importantly they have the best kids program around because Arianna is a phenomenal instructor!
Love this place, and I am especially grateful for all of the people that make it what it is. The gym is lead by excellent, passionate, and committed coaches and is home to upper belts who really love the sport and who are also some of the kindest and most encouraging people I know. Over the last two years I've been going here, I've had the opportunity to really grow not just as an athlete but as a person. If you're looking for a place where people are really genuinely rooting for you, then look no further, you've found it here at Dark Horse.
Great gym with some great people in the heart of the Santa Fe art district. Had an awesome time rolling there.
Dropped in while travelling. Amazing crew, great instructors, very welcoming gym!
My two children have started the kids training program here at dark horse with coach Arianna, they have been enjoying it so much I highly recommend bringing your children here coach arianna is professional and very good at teaching all ages.
I went to two morning classes (6am). First was taught by Jake, other was taught by Zack. The class was phenomenal, great instruction and very friendly classmates. I brought some of my coworkers in and Zack altered the program to accommodate them since they were beginners. I highly recommend training here for a friendly and positive vibe!
Instructors are great with our child! 100% reccomend for anyone looking to start out
I've been training at Dark Horse for about 5.5 years and it has been an absolute godsend. The gym is chalked full of wonderful people who truly seek to support you in becoming your best self, and there is nothing that puts life's issues in perspective quite like jiu jitsu does. I cannot say enough good things about the gym and would recommend it to anyone.
most powerful bjj gym, best coaches, best people. the kids program instructor is fantastic! highly recommend to anyone interested in learning self defense or taking up a new sport!
I had an amazing time training at Dark Horse. The people are always super friendly and happy to see you come and train. The kids program is really good the kids are always having fun and learning
i’ve been going to dark horse since late january and it’s been an amazing experience. Although i’m not the best at bjj the instructors and even fellow peers are extremely helpful on what to do.
Best bjj gym
All the coaches are great, felt super comfortable starting the for the first time and feel like I’m getting better fast than I would at other gyms!
Been here for 6 years. I love this place. It has made me. The room is full of people invested in your success. Everyone gives their know-how away freely and willingly. No hardos, no toxic culture. Incredibly welcoming to all- gi, no gi, serious competitors, and hobbyists. Great sense of humor. Professor Dude and Coebra are a wealth of knowledge. Coach Phil keeps that place running and clean. Shower there too is great for morning commutes.
My little brother trains bjj at Dark Horse Combat Club with coach Arianna. He has learned life skills alongside bjj. The community has been very welcoming and feels like a family. I highly recommend training at Dark Horse Combat Club.
Best bjj gym on both sides of the Mississippi
Excellent coaching staff and a great community for beginners, competitors, and anyone in between.
I signed my kid up more than a year ago. Neither my kid nor I had much martial arts experience and we’ve both been happy with what we’ve learned. For this review I asked my kid if he’s happy with “wrestling” and he emphatically said yes. Dark Horse spends a lot of time on conversations with the kids about respecting themselves, coming to terms with the difficulty of the sport, and having healthy expectations around what to expect from themselves. I’m glad Arianna spends as much time as she does with kids, I personally have seen the benefits. Doing it right is hard, and they teach that, but not to be hard on oneself because the sport is hard.
The kids class has given my 6yr old her first goals, the character development aspect was not expected, and the other kids no matter what size are so helpful. We started with the idea of fun and fitness, but now she has ideas to compete.
I’ve been training at Dark Horse for around 6 months now, and it’s been an amazing and positive experience! No surprise that Dark Horse has so many 5-star reviews. Everyone is positive, welcoming, takes their training seriously and strives to grow, but also keeps it fun. I’ve made some great friends here already and there’s a definite sense of community. The coaches, especially Coach Phill who leads a lot of the beginner classes, makes it welcoming for newbies while also challenging you to improve daily. Facility is clean - has showers and changing rooms. Occasionally parking can be sparse, but you can always find street parking nearby. Lots of classes to choose from daily, no egos - the higher belts are welcoming to lower belts and willing to train with them and help them learn and improve. Can’t recommend it enough! Come by and see for yourself!
Coach Arianna is so great with the kids. My son has developed so much self confidence being there. Highly recommend
My son just loves going to class. I have seen an excitement in my son that I haven't seen during any other sport. Everyone is so kind and encouraging. We are very happy to be apart of Dark Horse.
Great place to learn an addicting, challenging, fun and rewarding skill. Dark Horse is a clean gym and a supportive community. The teachers are passionate and always stay later to answer my questions. The kids program is giving back to the community. I love this gym. Highly recommend.
One of my favorite things about this gym is the dedication the instructors have. Especially with the women's and kid's programs. It is so important to be able to give the people who attend these classes the education on defense as well as giving a space that is free of judgement. As someone who has a hard time putting themselves out there into social settings, Arianna Gracia makes everyone feel welcome in these classes. The passion and devotion she consistently brings is so palpable. It's refreshing. As well as having a light-hearted personality and being a friendly face that instantly makes you feel at home. I'd highly recommend her women's class to anyone who is wanting to take a leap into new territory without the stress and anxiety many people have joining new gyms. The patience, nurturing, and gentleness she exudes with her kid's class, on top of making it just an all around fun experience for the children, is something any parent would be thrilled to have their child participate in.
This is a top quality place to train Jiu Jitsu. They have great classes led by knowledgeable and helpful coaches, and a welcoming and supportive community. They also have a kids program led by Arianna, where the kids not only learn valuable self defense skills, but also discipline, respect, and compassion.
I honestly love this place. I’ve been training here for about 2 years and it’s been a positive experience the whole way through. The coaches are really cool and very skilled in what they teach. I’ve also built the majority of my friend group through this gym, and they’ve been incredibly supportive as I’ve started to do competitions. I also see that the kids program is really high quality. Arianna is very helpful and patient with the kids as they learn jiu jitsu and other self defense techniques. I will likely put my kids in this gym in the future and would 10/10 recommend to anyone that’s interested in BJJ.
I've been going here for about a year. Besides jiujitsu, they also have muay thai, yoga, a free women's class, and a kids jiujitsu class. Arianna and Jake do an incredible job with teaching the kids discipline, patience, and life lessons. The quality of instruction, flexible schedule, reasonable price, and close community have made this my favorite gym I've ever been a part of.
I’ve been training here for years it’s always been the best. I love the people and atmosphere. The professors and coaches are always down to help, answer questions and work with you. They have a great kids program, and the kids classes are very fun and organized. Great way to teach kids discipline, courage, resilience, and respect!
Excellent facilities, great instruction, and a welcoming environment make Dark Horse a great place to train. I stopped in as an out of town visitor. Dark Horse was the only BJJ gym I could find with classes that accommodated my schedule. Phil was friendly and professional; I got in some great training. The facility is well appointed, easy to get to, and very clean.
My daughter has found renewed energy and confidence here, especially after being assaulted by an older boy at her school and seeing no reaction from the school staff. The instructor is awesome as both an instructor and someone for her to look up to.
I’ve been training here for around 2 years now and love it! There are gi, nogi, and kids classes! I like the variety of class levels from beginner, intermediate, to advanced. The kids classes look very engaging and structured!
Visited dark horse while visiting Denver and the school was very welcoming and provided great training. Arrived early and was very impressed with the female blue belt teaching kids. Looked like a great environment for both kids and adults.
This space is so welcoming and people-oriented. I felt very comfortable as a woman going here, and the free orientation they did was super helpful. They have a safe way to advance your skills gradually, but also don't gatekeep. Coach Phil is supportive and encouraging, and very experienced. One of the best BJJ gyms I've seen if you like it for the sport of it. I've also seen them be extremely accommodating of physical disabilities in the space and appreciate their awareness of how to do that.
Really awesome coaches and a great place to start BJJ. New weekly Muay Thai and MMA classes are included and a great way to tack on additional skills and switch up the pace.
Great experience; knowledge and experienced coaches, friendly mats. Just a visitor for the day but everyone was very welcoming.
There's a reason Dark Horse has so many 5-star reviews. Here are 5 things I've noticed while training there: 1) Super friendly and light-hearted atmosphere. People are very welcoming. 2) Fantastic instructors that are true professionals....also great humans. They are pros at explaining complex concepts in ways that are easy to grasp. Thank you Coach Phil and Professor Eric! You guys build great vibes into all of your classes. It makes them fun to attend. 3) Personalized instruction. Coach Phil and Professor Eric are pros at finding specific details that, you specifically, are missing. It makes such a difference at how fast you progress. 4) Safe training environment. The coaches and professors are extremely good at calling out situations/details that can result in injury and watching for them proactively so you can just focus on learning. 5) Organization vibes come from the top down, so it should be no surprise that the other students are funny, humble, supportive, and welcoming as well.
Highly recommended Dark Horse if you are contemplating getting into BJJ. The team and everyone that attends class is extremely respectful, patient, and welcoming. 10/10
Great academy. I was greeted immediately upon arriving. Everyone was professional and the class I attended was ran efficiently. I will stop in again the next time I'm in Denver.
I used to frequent their open mats and classes when i lived in Colorado. Even though i trained at a different school they were still extremely welcoming. They are welcoming of all techniques, such as leglocks etc. Everyone their is welcoming, and you will get a good mix of experience levels, from advanced to beginner. Its a great Jiu Jitu school and id recommend you check it out if you're if the area.
Great place to get professional jiu jitsu training. Highly recommend.
Starting my sophomore year at college I wanted to try out Jiu-Jitsu and so after going and trying out five different academies I found my favorite place to be and get taught was Dark Horse. The community here and all the instructors I've had has been an incredible start to my journey.
I was warmly greeted and made to feel at home. This place has serious top level bjj instruction. The mats are clean and pricing is super reasonable. The blackbelt running things made sure I had a good time and when I’m back in town I will definitely be coming back. Finding some parking was the only thing I had an issue with but I can’t really fault the gym for that. All in all 10/10.
Eric was amazing he took the time to educate me on BJJ. Highly recommended.
This was my first time rolling EVER, and everyone was very respectful, polite, and supportive. I will defitnetly be back for an open mat day. Thank you to professor Charles, Noodles for the information, and hospitality. I’ll be back soon. 🙌🏽🙏🏽
Awesome spot! Charles, the head coach of the class was detailed and encouraged questions. I’m from out of town the whole team made me feel very welcome. I’m definitely rolling up again soon. Extra perk - the bath room has mouth wash 👌🏽
I’ve been with Dark Horse for a few months now and am incredibly happy I chose to train with them. All the instructors are top notch and everyone I’ve trained with is awesome. The gym values things like respect, technique, and discipline, all while keeping things light-hearted and fun. Going to Dark Horse is my favorite way to decompress after work. I’ve had a great time here and you will too!
Cannot recommend Dark Horse enough! Amazing instructors, the best training partners/friends, and a great location. No matter where you are in your BJJ journey, if you are in Denver, look no further than Dark Horse Combat Club.
Maybe it’s just the Colorado way (I moved here from Chicago recently), but from day one the staff and team has been unbelievably friendly and inviting. I would highly recommend this gym to anyone interested in learning BJJ.
Love this gym! I have been training here for 6 months and since the moment I walked in, I have felt like part of the fam. The community is super welcoming and the coaches/professors are all very helpful and eager to help you achieve your personal goals. With a judgement free zone and friendly faces, Dark Horse is a great place to learn any level of jiujitsu. 🥋🤙🏼😊
I started training Jiu-jitsu in 2013 at a small club in spain, with some people to this day I still keep in touch with. My Jiu-jitsu journey has taken me all over, including training for several months or years in various other countries and cities. So I've seen a wide spectrum of styles of schools, including the big internationally known Roger gracie academy in london. I can say the tight knit community and level of instruction you will find at dark horse is really something special. the professors and coaches are invested in your growth and on top of this, they offer a safe way to train and have an awesome schedule with early morning classes, mid day and evening classes as well. The positivity at this school is also contagious, everyone is always smiling and really enjoying the journey. I'm proud to train here and would recommend it to anyone interested in trying for the first time, experienced bjj players, or even people just passing through
I was staying with friends in Denver for a couple of weeks and signed up for this gym. I loved the gym so much, I ended up extending my stay for a month. It has truly become home away from home , with the amazing atmosphere, and phenomenal team of instructors and students who have instantly accepted me to their BJJ family. 10 out of 10 for cleanliness of the gym, professionalism of the instructors and great overall spirit.
If you're looking for a new gym, just starting out, or are in town for a quick trip, you will choose wisely with DHCC. The professors and students are amazing and you will feel welcome on the first day. This isn't where you go to act like a tough guy, this is where you come to learn, improve your game, get a workout, and make friends. Added bonus, the Denver location is a 5 minute drive from downtown which makes this perfect for those visiting family or here on business. The class format is technique focused as opposed to just rolling so when you come, have your thinking cap on. Of course, there is rolling so you can get your blood pumping after sitting through unyielding conference calls.
Great instruction and an awesome community of friendly and dedicated training partners!
Outstanding instructors, welcoming atmosphere, and plenty of opportunities scheduled throughout the day for training.
Great spot, helpful instructors and friendly crowd
I travel a lot for work and am picky about my jiu jitsu gyms and Dark Horse was amazing! Really an awesome gym with a great group of people and a wonderful instructor. He was super kind in giving me attention and direction even though I was just passing through! The students there were super friendly. No machismo and injuries. Very friendly and humble. I highly recommend for locals or people passing through.
I started coming here a couple months ago as a complete beginner and now I'm hooked! I couldn't be happier about the decision to start my training at Dark Horse. Great downtown location, a knowledgable group of instructors to learn from, and awesome people to train with. I'd recommend Dark Horse to anyone interested inn BJJ no matter their experience level.
I’ve been training here for a few months and absolutely love it. Everyone at the gym is super friendly and respectful, which makes the jiu jitsu much more approachable and fun. I’d highly recommend anyone to this gym whether you’re a seasoned grappling veteran or brand new to the sport.
Dark Horse is a great place to learn and train BJJ. The new location is great, the instructors have always been awesome, and the people who train here are very friendly.
Awesome folks, great environment, excellent schedule. Overall amazing place
Outstanding coaching with a real team atmosphere - the new facility is clean with plenty of space to train. Safety is emphasized first and foremost, but the classes are still highly rigorous. They allowed me to freeze my membership while dealing with an injury, while some gyms would try to continue charging.
Very helpful and awesome morning classes. Great location and great training.
Great place to train! I love the new facility. All the students and professors are very knowledgable and welcoming. I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND this gym to anyone wanting to learn or train Jujitsu.
Stopped in for the advanced class while on business and was instantly made welcome -- everyone was great to train with! Space: They recently got a new space and it's great - clean, well-maintained, with individual(!!) changing rooms and a shower. Instruction: Incredible - the organization of the different techniques taught made it easy to understand and open the mind to different options and concepts. Also since it was a smaller class size, professor was able to come around multiple times to give details. All in all, fantastic place!
Super welcoming. Great instruction. Clean mats. Awesome culture. Stop in for a class.
I am so grateful to have this gym in my life. I came in very nervous and tentative, but since that first day, I’ve been treated with utmost respect and support. The coaching staff truly cares about your development, your goals, and overall health. I’m in my late 30s and every gym membership just didn’t last, but this one did. I’ve lost weight, I’m starting to feel the potential of what my body can do, I’ve gained more confidence in myself, and I’m getting to know great people. It’s an honor to be a part of this gym. I can’t recommend Dark Horse enough.
This is a fantastic gym to train BJJ and Muay Thai. The coaches are extraordinarily invested in the students and teach with patience and care. The facility is clean and well-maintained with plenty of space to drill.
The people here have become like family. I have been training on a weekly basis at Dark Horse for about 9 months and have found a lot of benefit in BJJ both physically and mentally. Give it a shot and find out for yourself.
Love it here! Very positive environment. I would recommend it to anyone!
Great instructors, great training partners, and great atmosphere all around!
Best place. Training here gets one very vulnerable to learn the art truly but to also find a confidence that really radiates positivity and discipline. Had a short experience here due a severe health barrier but instantly knew this was the place for me. I'll return here soon. Instructors are great and the other people learning are great to work with. Recommend it to anyone.
I cant recommend this place enough! If your looking at gyms to train at this is a great place with great people, if your looking at gyms considering the start of your journey then I wish you luck in your searching and I hope you step on the mats soon. I walked in on 12/10/15 hoping to get control of my health. I wasn't sure what to expect and I didn't know anything about BJJ but I was welcomed in and have been training now for 7 months. BJJ has taught me that disciplines stack on top of one another and create strong discipline that can change your life. In order for me to get better at this game I had to improve the person I was. I walked in weighing 225lbs and just 7 months later I weigh 170lbs! that's a loss of 55lbs and I feel the difference, I can see the difference and so can my friends and family. I'm not just healthier I'm more confident, more energized, more focused and sure... even happier. With the help of coach Jason and Professor Charles I am in the best shape of my life. They would both say that it was me and not them but the truth is that it was them, the gym, my teammates and of coarse myself. I wrote this review to tell you folks looking at gyms that this place is great but if you don't come here, go somewhere! Start training, keep training and good luck playa!
I'm completely new to martial arts, and this club is outstanding- both Jason and Joey are excellent instructors and I've really enjoyed their teaching style, patience, and dedication. I highly recommend Alchemy!
Best place I've ever trained. I think of everyone there like an extended family. If you're looking for a friendly environment with great instructors, this is the place.
Alchemy Combat Club is an awesome dojo. They do a good job of covering the self defense and competitive sport aspects of BJJ. Every single person has been welcoming and extremely helpful from day one. There are no egos and nobody is trying to smash anyone. Everyone is learning and teaching in a way. I am a relatively off-balance person with horrible cardio and a bad back, and after a couple of months, my body is becoming more accepting of the intense "warm-ups" and drills. The layout of the gym is awesome, too.
Time to get comfortable being uncomfortable! I have been training with the squad at Alchemy Combat Club - Dark Horse Denver for just under a year now and couldn't be happier! I started my Jiu Jitsu journey in NJ under Professor Mike Mrkulic (RIP), and when I moved to Denver in May 2015 I was looking for the right place to continue my training and perhaps explore the world of competition if I got the itch. What drew me in was the coaching staff as well as the facilities - home of Denver Judo and many US Judo Olympic team members! There are classes for all levels from 6 years old to 90years old - Jiu Jitsu is for everyone!. Whether it's your first day on the mats or you are the uber-competitor looking to push yourself to the next level, you will find the right balance training here. The team prides itself on building the foundation both physically and mentally to ensure success. I encourage you to reach out if your curious about Jiu Jitsu, self-defense or just getting in shape. Call Coach Jason and inquire about checking out a class to see if it might be a good fit. Hope to see you on the mats! Oss!
I've been going here for about a month now. I absolutely love it. The coaches are great and there are just enough people in the class to make you still feel like you get that one on one attention. Everyone there is very knowledgeable, respectfully, kind, and helpful. It beats the price of any other gym in town as well.
I am just getting into BJJ and am having a very positive and enjoyable experience at Alchemy Combat Club. The instructors Joey Chase and Jason Cox are great teachers and all of the students are extremely helpful to me as a new student. Everyone has a positive attitude and is making me feel included and supported as I enter into this amazing sport.
High level and thoroughly detailed instruction with an exceptional emphasis on safety. A great place to train with an awesome family atmosphere.
Alchemy BJJ is a great martial arts club to be a part of. Coach Jason and Coach Joey are great instructors that are focused on making sure their students implement proper form and techniques during every class. On top of that, the crew that you train with are a great group of people. They are all there to help improve your skills all while having a great time! If you are looking to give BJJ a try, I would highly recommend Alchemy. They cater to all skill levels, and the entire group made me feel right at home from day 1.
The club has a great vibe--no egos and you are treated like family from the get-go. From a learning perspective, the instructors are both very good. The mats are kept CLEAN, which is huge too. You will lack neither for individual attention if you have a question or for rolling partners. Instructors and other students are great at moderating the intensity with a new whitebelt, so don't be intimidated to try it out. Additionally, love the way they teach. There's lots of positional sparring and drilling is done both cooperatively and non-cooperatively, so you really can focus on learning a particular position or technique, even if it's one you may not end up in a lot if you were just free sparring, for example. I tried BJJ three different times before I joined this club and walked out because the people instructing either didn't want a chick there, didn't clean their mats, or were teaching bullshido. I'd given up on finding a place to train BJJ until I found this club. It's been great so far, so come give it a try.
Alchemy is an excellent place to learn BJJ. I have been doing judo for 26 years and have never been even remotely interested in BJJ until I met Joey Chase and Jason Cox. They started a BJJ class at Denver Judo where I coach and my entire family started training with them. Joey and Jason are excellent instructors and I am truly enjoying their classes. If you want to learn BJJ Alchemy is the place to be!
I currently roll with both Alchemy and Denver Judo. I had always stayed away from BJJ because I thought it was full of bros. Joey and Jason came to Judo one night and after meeting them, I reconsidered my previous notions. They take the time to explain each piece so that by the time you end class you have a new string of movements put together. It has incredibly enhanced my judo game as well as helped me with stress management in my professional and personal life. If you're thinking of joining a BJJ team, Alchemy is the way to go!
Alchemy rocks. Joey Chase and Jason Cox are excellent instructors and we love having them at Denver Judo. if you are at all interested in trying out BJJ, this is a great place to go!
Jiu Jitsu is something I have wanted to take on but never found the motivation to make it to any formal classes. My friend brought me along to a beginner class a month ago and I instantly got hooked. Besides it being an easy location for me to sneak out on a lunch break for a class, there is great instruction, and friendly people. Highly recommend checking out Alchemy MA.
Really great vibes in this place! Awesome Jiu Jitsu instruction! Joey has an extremely deep and technical understanding of the art, and genuinely cares about the success of his students.Very reasonably priced in the world of BJJ, and up front about pricing. Love it!
