This place is very open and friendly to newbies. I walked in on a Sunday to get info for my kid. Had my son do 1 day trial and he was hooked, they were so patient and attentive to new students. Plus they have community events which brings all the parents together.
Great family environment! It was the first time training BJJ for my two youngest daughters and they loved the classes and the new friends they met here. We were welcomed with open arms, and this place has become our second home over the years. CJJF Central really is an extended Ohana, very welcoming to everyone who comes through the doors. From family events, movie nights and beach days as a team. Central is a beautiful blend of individuals from all walks of lives, from military, surfers, law enforcement, competitors, students, mothers, etc, and to anyone who is trying to better themselves with the support of a family. CJJF Central offers training for children, five and older. The children’s classes are divided by age groups to better fit the children’s need for their specific ages. Central also offers some additional classes for their members (and family members) at no additional cost as their way of saying thank you. They offer a Judo class, Striking (kickboxing) class and two Yoga classes throughout the week. Adult fundamental classes are offered every day. I’ve trained in numerous locations over the years and have dealt with various environments and instructors. CJJF Central has a professional environment that I believe is perfect for the growth of my children and myself. Overall I love Central CJJF, and I highly recommend this Academy for anyone looking to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
I've recently joined CJJF and it's my first BJJ experience. I have both a judo and wrestling background so I wanted to try something different. I'm a very shy person and wanted to come out of my comfort zone so that's why I've decided to join this club. The staffing and coaches are extremely friendly and welcomed me right away! The coaches and staff are very patient and are willing to teach above and beyond! The dojo is very clean and organized. There are classes everyday which is great if you have a busy schedule. I'm very happy and excited to continue coming to practice! If you're looking to start BJJ somewhere and don't know where to go, I highly recommend CJJF!!
Everyone was very welcoming and kind!! I had such a great time on the class I dropped in on! I will definitely be back!!
Visited the island for some military training, CJJF Central was the first gym I visited and they were fantastic! They were extremely welcoming, great environment for both families and competitors and the Coach teaching the Monday and Wednesday classes is extremely knowledgeable! If I ever get stationed out here, this is where I am training! Mahalo!
The BJJ classes for adults are outstanding – challenging, engaging, and led by skilled instructors who genuinely care about our progress. The atmosphere is inclusive, the facility is top-notch, and the camaraderie is unbeatable. If you're looking for a BJJ gym that caters to both adults and families, CJJF is the perfect fit!
My 2 girls have been attending classes here for about a year and they absolutely love it. The encouragement and positivity they get from all the coaches there has really brought out their interest in this martial art. Right from the beginning, everyone was so welcoming, patient and pleasant. I also appreciate that the gym is clean and has bathrooms along with seating for parents to wait and watch their kids’ class. The lead teachers are good and explain everything thoroughly. This is a place I would recommend to anyone looking for a positive and professional place to train in martial arts. It is conveniently located along Kamehameha Hwy in the shopping/eating center in Waimalu where the locally famous Shiro’s Saimin is. Definitely a place worth checking out.
I highly recommend checking out this gym. I dropped in because I was looking for a place to train while I was on vacation. I am so glad that I chose CJJF Central. Every interaction I had from the beginners class instructor and advanced class instructor to the head professor was absolutely amazing. I was welcomed with open arms and had such a fun time that I'm itching to plan another trip and train here. FYI - Location is on the second floor and you need to get buzzed in to get through the locked gate on the left of the building. Once you enter the walkway follow the stairways to the right and enter the gym through the back door which has the CJJF logo. Do not hesitate to try out this gym. You will not regret it.
My 5-year old son has only been coming to CJJF Central for a few months since summer, and he loves it. Heʻs made new friends, and the coaches are excellent! They make the lessons child-friendly by making it game oriented. It is definitely a very family-oriented place; they have family events like a picnic and movie night, which allows for bonding and getting to know others who are a part of the CJJF family. I highly recommend.
Thank you such a great team bonding movie night event. But most importantly thank you for creating a positive academy environment built on a foundation of camaraderie and support. Encouraging a sense of community among students, instructors and staff fostering a welcome and enjoyable atmosphere.
I was visiting from Austin, TX. This is the only gym I will go to when I am visiting. It’s an amazing environment, amazing coaches, & amazing people. The competition is great, my game always improves, & I always leave a better human than I when I walked in. They also host an amazing Yoga class on Sunday’s with coach Nikki. I highly recommend training here! I wish I lived on island so I could represent this amazing school! Much love CJJF Central Family!
Awesome coaches! Great community! Everyone in classes are friendly and willing to meet you where you’re at! Saturdays HIIT is always a blast!
Love this gym, very friendly and great instructors. I definitely recommend training here if your looking for a long term gym.
Love doing the 1 hr yoga sculpt class (in addition to their jiu jitsu classes). Yoga sculpt instructor and people are awesome. Its bit of yoga and a bit more sculpt. Combination of yoga poses and movements then incorporating HIIT exercises. No need to be afraid as instructor encourages and you can work at your own pace from easy level to torture mode as all body types are welcome. I always end with a soaking shirt because I choose torture. You will feel better physically and spiritually after classes.
An amazing gym for both young kids and adults! Positive staff and nice facilities. Many available classes and times offered especially my favorite is the yoga sculpt on Sunday morning where I come out dripping after instructor Nikki makes us "pulse pulse". Jon the owner is also very welcoming and kind. Highly recommended :)
Not only does CJJF provide a knowledgable, structured, and positive environment to learn jiujitsu, their Sunday morning yoga sculpt class is next level! Nikki is absolutely amazing and her classes strengthen and recharge mind, body, and soul. I look forward to spending my Sunday mornings with all the incredible humans that come to sweat!
Cjjf central is a great environment with amazing staff and coaches, they also offer for members on Sunday mornings a free yoga sculpt class, instructor Nikki is amazing and leads a killer class, I love going on Sundays to get a good workout and a good sweat to start off my week, highly recommend to try it out!
Highly recommend their Yoga Sculpt class on Sundays. Nikki is amazing and I always feel energized after her workouts. Very clean and positive vibes.
The yoga sculpt class on Sundays is a great way to build your body’s strength and feel great about yourself! The instructor Nikki is awesome and super nice. Definitely recommend this yoga sculpt class because it is a great workout!
Great professors, awesome coaches, and very family oriented. It's a healthy environment to learn, grow, push the limits and become the future self you want to be. CJJF Central, without a doubt, has become a part of my family and has pushed me to greater heights!
Was visiting my folks and decided to pop in for a no-gi class because they were close by. A little tricky finding the entrance, but once you get there the place is very clean and inviting. Kids class was wrapping up and you could tell the kids were really enjoying themselves and the coaches were very enthusiastic and involved. Had a very ohana vibe. The no gi class was great and I got some fun rolls in. All coaches and students had a great attitude and were very welcoming to me visiting for a day. Highly recommended!!
Would definitely recommend CJJF-Central to learn jiu jitsu! Coming from a person that had no experience with martial arts I was very nervous taking my first class. Everyone here is very friendly and was super patient with me. What stands out the most to me would be the overall atmosphere and environment that this place gives off. The coaches really brings out the best of their students. And your fellow training partners (students) also wants to see you succeed. It’s really hard for me to put this into words, but there’s an aura here that gives off positive vibes that makes you want to come back again and again.
Great environment great people greater teachers to get you right
We visited several classes and CJJF seemed to be the most homey and fun class. My daughter loved it and wanted to start right away. And Jon and the other teachers are very supportive. I highly recommend CJJF to anyone looking for a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class. My daughter looks forward to her weekly classes. We love CJJF!
I randomly noticed the CJJF sign driving on Kam highway about a year ago. I signed up myself and my son and we’ve been training at CJJF Central ever since. The academy is very welcoming to all experience levels, the professor is extremely knowledgeable and the facility is really clean. Starting BJJ journey here was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I’ve also lost 30lbs over the last year training with the absolute savages at Central. Now my wife and daughter have joined us in training to make it a true family affair!
For the longest time, I’ve had a hard time deciding on which self-defensive/grappling association would benefit my son the most, and I’m SO glad this academy was recommended to me. There are so many positive things to say about this place: friendly (yet assertive) coaches, awesome locale, welcoming atmosphere, affordable, long-lasting friendships, the list goes on. The coaches work so hard with these kids to ensure they are executing the proper forms/techniques all the while maintaining their cool (especially with the younger ones, lol) and instilling discipline-and that’s no easy feat. I couldn’t be more proud of this place and if you decide to bring your kid (or yourself) here, you would not be disappointed!
We did a free trail and my son fell in love with this place! He has learned so much since joining and looks forward to coming to every class.
Love the coaches & atmosphere at CJJF central. Sad we move this summer & will miss the friendships we've made & I love seeing the progress my son has made
CJJF is absolutely amazing. My family started by putting our oldest right when he turned 4 and he has been in it for 2 years and has learned so much from this gym. We love it so much that we put our 2nd son in and he is having so much fun. The classes are great and they take the time to teach each child while being hands on. Not only are they learning Jiu Jitsu but they make friends. This gym is all about family. They have occasional movie nights and activities that the whole family can join in on.
My older son started jujitsu here about 3 years ago and it has been the best gym ever for not only himself but also for my ohana. I have younger one who was not even a year at that time, they have little back room for siblings and he gets to play with others during his brother’s class. They have family friendly events like beach day potluck, movie nights, Halloween& Christmas parties and more. We had entered Naga tournaments and coaches and professors helped him to prepare for it even on Saturdays. Now my younger son turned 4 and he can’t wait to join the jujitsu!!
If you’re looking for a fun family oriented Jiu Jitsu Academy that teaches respect, discipline, hard work and ethics - CJJF central is the place to call your home. The black belt instructors - Professor Jon & Professor Cyrus along w/ their knowledgeable Coaches are very humble & their love for the art of jiu jitsu shines through all their “heartwork” they provide to the kids as young as 4 - to adults from beginner to intermediate levels!
Great place for youth to learn the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. My 5 year old daughter looks forward to each training session at the academy. Each class reinforces the basic fundamentals of Jiu Jitsu through structure, discipline, and a fun exciting atmosphere that promotes growth, fitness, and learning. I highly recommend stopping by and attending a class for you or your children.
CJJF has done an incredible job creating a welcoming environment while also providing phenomenal coaching. No better place to begin or continue your Jiu Jitzu journey!
Amazing coaching, family focused staff and clean gym! Glad we found such an awesome gym for our kids to learn Jujitsu:)
We love CJJF. The coaches take the time to work with each kid and make sure they understand the technique that is being taught that day. We have always been treated with kindness and respect. The academy communicates with us about any new upcoming tournaments and activities. They also have plenty of extracurricular activities for the kids to do on non practice days which provides time for the kids to further their bonds and relationships with each other.
Such a great place for my son! The coaches are amazing!
I was searching for a jiu-jitsu class for my daughter & grandson. I found CJJF, and we took advantage of the free trial class. I was amazed of the atmosphere. It was very clean, the coaches were well attentive with the students. It made me comfortable to have my kids attend & train here. The location is in the Waimalu area, iand so convenient and lots of parking. I must say I made a good choice in choosing CJJF.
The instructors, management , and family members are friendly. I like that they allow a free trial class. Mr Jon is very considerate and understanding. He answers a phone call right away.
Enrolling my children at CJJF is one of the best things I have done for my kids. Not only do they provide a safe and supportive environment, but we now all feel a part of the Caveirinha family. Thank you to Professor John, and all of our favorite coaches. -Cameron, Marlee, Michael Schaller
Definitely one of the best experiences I've had. Was welcomed into the team that truly embodies the BJJ spirit of growth, strength and friendship. Awesome and easy to follow instruction for beginners and advanced. I personally had a different game coming in and Coach Jon and the rest of the team have helped me to embrace and learn new things to add to my game. 10/10 stars!!! You will not be disappointed if you've been training 10 years or 10 minutes.
Professor Jon and his staff of coaches is one of the best environments we have ever experienced. They have dedicated staff that feels passionately about the sport but also about you personally. Our son joined at barely 5 years old and trained with them for 2 years. We moved and we were heart broken to leave. This facility fosters a learning environment for children that is fun, safe and welcoming to all. Our son built friendships there and it became more than just jiu jitsu class but a family. Their number one priority is the safety of the children but ensuring they stay engaged and learn. Our son is a product of that environment and in that 2 years grew tremendously in skill and personal confidence in himself. I highly recommend this for anyone starting out in the sport or moving to the area and continue in it.
When I asked my coach back home what to look for in a good gym when I told him I’d be in Hawaii for a month, he gave me three things: cleanliness, good coaching, and community. I can safely say the CJJF exceeded my expectations in all of these categories. In fact, I can’t wait for my visit to Hawai’i so I can train here again. What I like about CJJF is that not only are you not allowed to have shoes on the mats, but you have to take them off when you enter the building, so the whole room is clean. They spray it down every night after class as well. As for coaching, I have nothing but great things to say about the head coach, Jon. He is always so eager to help you, and gives you feedback as you see fit. Jon is also not the only one who coaches. He allows different people to coach his classes, which I think is great because it exposes the class to different methods of teaching, and different techniques. Lastly, the community at CJJF is absolutely wonderful. I am a very awkward person, but the first day I went, I was instantly welcomed. Also, Jon isn’t the only one who is willing to help, everyone is. CJJF is a family, so if you are looking for a super awesome BJJ community for yourself or even your kid, I would definitely recommend you try out CJJF.
Showed up for a free first class and my son loved the environment so much that we came back the next class and signed up. The instructors are amazing and very patient and love teaching at all levels. Very impressed and the value for money was perfect. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting to get themselves or their kids into BJJ.
I have been training with CJJF Central for the past couple years and it’s a great environment to be in. I was new to BJJ and I did not know what to expect. As we walked in, they automatically treated us like family. I never thought I would ever compete in a BJJ tournament. When I signed up, I had an amazing support from everyone. The professor and the coaches take their time to help train you even if you are not competing. CJJF Central is a family oriented environment.
CJJF is an outstanding gym for beginner or advanced jiu jitsu enthusiasts; they create an atmosphere of family and love for the sport! My son began at age 3 1/2 and the coaches and professors were so patient with him and the other 12+ kids that attended. Over time, the kids class grew to more than 20 and that’s because these coaches and professors are some of the best I’ve seen! In addition to creating a fun family atmosphere for your kids, this team enjoys get togethers on the weekends where students and family members can grow as one large ohana. For adults, (I attended Monday - Thursday) they have a variety of classes 6-7 days a week tailored to your skill level. These guys and gals are not trying to throw their egos around either, they truly want each adult to grow and learn the technique to be better each time they roll. I cannot stress how amazing this place is for all ages. This place is more than a jiu jitsu gym, they are a family and want to welcome all who want to learn! 10/10!!
CJJF was amazing for my 9 year old son, he had so much fun, while learning valuable skills. The instructors are amazing, and run a fun, well disciplined class.
Droped in during holiday for a class and they even lent me a gi when I was lacking. Appreciate the hospitality from John and his team, good training!
I can’t say enough great things about Cav central! They welcomed my son and I with open arms when we transferred to Oahu. The instruction given is top notch and everyone is super friendly!!! I highly recommend this school!
CJJF Central is a hidden gem in the heart of Waimalu. From street level, you’d never guess a gym of this caliber was on the second floor. It’s clean, spacious and well-cared for. Professor Jon and the other instructors were welcoming during my visit and the class structure was great for all skill levels. You’ll find solid rolls here as well as a growing kids and women’s program. Much aloha, gang!
I have been to multiple schools on the island and Professor Jon and Coach Cyrus definitely make you feel like family immediately. Professor Jon does a great job with the adults program incorporating all the lessons together in a format anyone can understand and put the dots together. Coach Cyrus has a way with the kids program, he amazing and patient with them. My daughter loves going to class! The program has a perfect balance of instruction, drill, sparring, and games. Schedule and location was also important to me and their new state of the art school has a great schedule for kids and adults. Parking, parking, and parking so many spots with space on both sides where you don't have to worry about door dings. In short I highly recommend giving them a vist and see for your self!
Great school with great instruction! Jon is a phenomenal professor.
The bad: My wife realized that she was not that into jiu-jitsu, and would prefer to do kickboxing. They said they would offer this in the future potentially, so we cancelled the membership. If they offered kick boxing in the future, she would have went to this gym. Now for the trip. In 4 weeks my wife was charged $496. She only went to 3 classes, and got a gi. Nov 29. - $146 and $15 Dec 06 - $42 Dec 13 - $42 Dec 27 - $42 and $162 When questioned about the charges, they asked to call, and would not put it into writing for days. She emailed, and texted them until they finally laid it out clearly. $99 registration fee, plus the first week. It is $42 a week. And then a cancellation fee of $162 to cover the Gi Honestly the easiest money I have ever lost, and she really was hoping to do kick boxing with them in the future. 3 lessons and a Gi is all she got out of nearly $500. Super unprofessional with the way they handled accounting, and members asking for a statement of charges. Also. . . To get to the location it's down a dark alley, and up dark stairs. The good: The instructors all seemed really professional, and seemed like they knew what they were doing. High energy, and honestly looked like a lot of fun. The pride they take in the classes that they teach was really awesome. For a white belt, they really break it down to the basics, and then if they see anyone struggling they will take the time to assist them. Honestly, I was looking forward to taking her to do kickboxing there in the future, but the price over 4 weeks put a sour taste in my mouth. All I am saying is be careful with giving them your money, you better be fully committed to this.
