Had 2 different stints travelling for work and Checkmat Phoenix was recommended by a friend. What a great recommendation! The culture here is second to none. It is a very welcoming environment and technical, high level jiu jitsu instruction. I can't recommend this place enough for anyone in the Valley or travelling through. You won't regret it! Posted 5 months agoWorld-class professors Mayko & Karen make you feel at home. We are truly a family with very diverse but respectful people. You don’t train with World Champions everywhere. Here, they teach you the art of Jiu-Jitsu at its finest. From the basics to the most advanced techniques that work/have been used in professional competitions. If you're looking for a gym with an inclusive environment where you will learn the BEST of Jiu-Jitsu, look no further. Just come try one free class and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Don’t choose another gym before trying this one. It won’t cost you anything, and you might change your mind ;)
Posted 5 months agoProfessor Mayko and Professor Karen are extremely knowledgeable in the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. These two Professors not only have the knowledge, but the ability to teach in such a simple way, it makes it easy for their students to understand the techniques and the concepts of BJJ. Professor Mayko and Karen conduct themselves with humility, compassion, and incredible passion for the art. Due to their leadship, we are more than a school, we are a family. Whatever your age group is, If you are interested in learning the art of BJJ, I would strongly recommend this school.
Posted a year agoI visited Checkmat Phoenix while in town for work, and the professor was very welcoming and knowledgable, and the students were kind. I look forward to visiting again when I'm in area.
