    This review is in regard to Tracy van vuurens bad review posted on 5/12/2025 I am writing this review as a parent of my 3 boys who attend every bjj class and as a witness to the actual incident. Please disregard Tracy van Vuuren review as it is complete fabrication and lies. I will not let this individual tarnish professor Gabrial's name as he is an amazing coach and amazing with the kids. Little insight into what actually happened. Tracy and her son first arrived 3 weeks ago to checkmatt4421 from a diffrent local club. As long standing member I tend to help out. Sadly I had the unfortunate dealings with Tracy. Her son arrived with no Gi/belt which is no problem as the dojo has spares however, she commanded me with extreme rude and blunt tone to get her son a Gi/belt . I was taken quite back. Later it was water break time and she didn't bring a water bottle for her son and again spoke to me like rubbish, commading me to get her son some water with no please or thank you. Honestly felt like she was talking to her slave. I was just another parent being polite to her. Whilst her sons first session was going on with professor Matt, I observed her son acting and behaving very spitefully and strange, aloof and aggressively towards the other kids. Alarm bells started to ring! Following week, Tracy was not present but the dad was. The sons behavior was again really unacceptable. Professor Gabrial was running technical drills from a set positions, he tried to correct the boy by telling him he is doing it incorrectly. The boy didn't like being told what to do as he thinks hes always right. Then started to cry and spitefuly tell professor Gabrial that he doesn't want his partner to be a girl. Professor Gabrial offered to swap with a another boy, he point blank refused saying he doesnt like any of the kids on the mat. Professor Gabrial even offered personal 1on1 the boy again refused. Eventually, professor Gabrial calmed him down asked him to wash his face and come back on the mat to continue and again he refused his directions. At this point good 10 mins have been taken off the classes becuase of teying to deal qith the boy. The dad sat there didn't have a clue of his sons behavior! Professor Gabrial acted professionally throughout. Professor Gabrial informed the dad of what happened in detail of his sons behavior at the end of the session. Week 3, I walked into Dojo I can see Tracy and another mother nearly having a argument because Tracy has parked her car so inconsiderately in the parking lot. I thought here we go, the way tracy was speaking to the other mum was awful and with such entitlement! Professor Gabrial pulled Tracy aside and updated her on her sons behavior last weeks session and as a duty of care. As any coach and teacher would do. On the start of the session all kids will line up bow and run around the dojo to warm up. Professor Gabrial will high five every single students and welcome them as a sign of respect. Tracy son ignored professor gabrial first round. On the second round professor Gabrial put his hand out again and the boy looked at him and ignored him again ignorant towards professor Gabrial. The child got pulled aside and asked if hes ok why hes beging disrespectful. Tracy came on the mat in a fit of rage took her son and said her son as done nothing wrong on any of the sessions. All the parents including my self disagree and stood up for professor Gabrial. She told all of us to go to hell and as she left the car park at sped honking her horn in unreasonable rage. By all means the Dojo does not expect perfect students coming through its doors however, when parents behave without reason and do not lead by good example it is then very difficult to work with the child. I would like to emphasize that at no point did professor Gabrial act like a bully and on the contrary Tracy is the Bully and tyrant! Professor Gabriel is a amazing coach please don't be discouraged by this awful individuals review! Many thanks kevk

    I came here from another club, everyone was friendly and I was immediately made to feel welcome. High quality teaching from approachable and very knowledgeable coaches, great atmosphere, I would definitely recommend to both beginners and experienced practitioners of BJJ.

    10/10 BJJ club with a great atmosphere! Matt & Gabriel are world class coaches that deliver quality 1-to-1 teaching. Whether you want to get fit or throw yourself into a martial art, I would highly recommend this club!

    I joined checkmat 4421 BJJ 6 months ago overweight at 125kg and extremely unfit, now I have lost 15kg, Such a friendly environment with the lads ,its helped my mental health, feel like a different man now ! I couldn't have done it without the help of two amazing coaches Matt and Gabrial , extremely blessed to have such amazing coaches, two black belts that take there time to role with us and teach high level . I can say I have found life time friends and a community! We regularly on a monthly basis will do BBQ and pub lunches. I am 37 and my biggest regret is ,that I didn't do BJJ sooner ! Please please don't hesitate to try ,first step is always the hardest, it would be the best decision you will ever make .! Also my 3 boys take part and the love it, they can't wait to train every week 🙌
