We have spent the last 9 months with our son doing classes at Cephas BJJ and we enjoy every minute we get to be there. My son has grown in confidence, perseverance and respect thanks to all of the work that Sensei Jay pours into all of his students! Cephas Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been a game changer for my two boys, aged 7 and 5. The discipline they've learned on the mat is evident in their everyday behavior, showing a remarkable improvement in both focus and respect. Their confidence is a direct result of the Sensei’s structured and disciplined program.
The family friendly atmosphere is a big plus, making it a welcoming space. While we're thrilled with the training and the positive impact on our boys, we're hopeful for a future expansion of the facility to accommodate the growing number of families drawn to this program. Overall, Cephas has been a fantastic experience for our children, instilling valuable life skills and a strong sense of community.
My daughter did the free class and loved it, so we signed her up! Love the staff and all the kids look like they are really enjoying what they’re learning.
I sat in to observe a kids class with my daughter and was very impressed. The sensei was very kind and made us feel comfortable, which was the primary attribute we were looking for . I thought his teaching style was perfect for my daughter since he emphasized drilling/memorizing a variety of moves. Some schools teach one move a class and then throw the kids into a sparring session which may work for some kids, but not mine. I could tell my daughter enjoyed her experience watching the class and was excited about it. For this reason, we signed up for a trial class which she also enjoyed. Ive signed her up officially and look forward to seeing her develop her skills.
There is a reason why this place has 213 5 star reviews. My son was nervous about coming but wanted to try it since his cousins and friends have been in jiu jitsu. This place was packed out on Tuesday but the culture of this gym is nothing I have ever experienced. The kids are respectful and the instructors care. The parents are all in this together. What a wonderful community to be part of!!!

Like any sport in which discipline of yourself is required, Sensei’s have their way of incorporating discipline into their teachings. It comes from a good place, they’re quality people here but of course discipline isn’t the fun part… yet still a part of learning this discipline. People would also be leaving bad reviews if there was no discipline.
Senseis are conscious of doing right by the kids , being good role models, and have shown they are willing to hear a parent out if necessary. I recommend not letting the people that don’t like aspects of the place discourage you from TRYING FOR FREE, then making your opinion. It’s ok to show up and decide you need a less disciplined sport, but don’t let some of these reviews paint too scary a picture. This place is full of smiles every single class(no pressure Senseis).
I began my journey under sensei Jerrell 2 years ago now. I have since moved, and had the opportunity to train at multiple other gyms and experience multiple other teaching styles.
He has quite a unique teaching skill, and different approach to encouraging. His students are strong, regardless of competing or not, and have so much fun. My kids absolutely loved it, and so did I. He strives to challenge his students. The facility is extremely clean as well. He has a strong family environment.
One thing I am most proud of is my foundations. Everywhere I go it stands out, and people comment on it. I have Sensei Jerrell to thank for that. 1% better 🙌🏻 👊🏻
After researching a martial arts academy for kids, we decided to join the Cephas BJJ Academy. They help kids overcome low esteem, increase self confidence, and learn self defense. Our daughter has been getting bullied and we decided to have her learn BJJ.
This is a great facility for a family environment where kids, youth, and adults learn the BJJ art along with self discipline all the while improving their mindset. Everyone is very supportive here.

always such an incredible experience!! It’s a family through and through. The coaches are incredible, Sensi is amazing!
They have a great structure and put discipline and respect first. Plus some humor. Just a very well oiled machine. This is our fourth month and we did a year and a half at a mat in California and I think their method of teaching moves is on par with BJJ standards. Their in house tournaments also run really smooth and are great to get the kids used to competing against kids they don’t know.

This gym has been a like home for the last year and a half. My kids and myself go here. The Professor is the absolute best with the kids and even better with the adults. Cephas Brazillian Jiu Jitsu is the best! We initially signed up at the YMCA and loved Sensai so much that we wanted to join up at his studio. Sensai Jay and his coaches are great with the kids. They drill new techniques and roll, they have fun and play games, and they also get the right amount of tough love when the kids need some discipline. The matt is always clean and the environment is always safe. Can't imagine being anywhere else.

My children have been attending BJJ/Karate classes with Sensei J for over a year. The skills they’ve learned, including the ability to handle situations where they have another human being in an aggressive close proximity, are invaluable to their sense of self and confidence. My daughter has been doing brazillian jiu jitsu and karate jiu jitsu with Sensei J for 2 years. He is patient and stern with each student making sure they know their moves and are doing it correctly. His demonstrations are clear and helps each student understand.
My main intention before enrolling her was to learn how to defend herself, but she’s really grown to love and respect the sport. With Sensei J’s guidance, she has won 1st place in two tournaments and 2nd place in two tournaments.
I can’t recommend this place enough!
My 5 year old was immediately welcomed and felt as if he belonged here. All students are efficiently taught jiu jitsu as well as to have mutual respect for one another. Growth amongst all students is strongly encouraged and we genuinely enjoy coming here 4 days a week. We will continue to come for Sensei Jerell‘s instruction and follow him should he move locations. Bonus: Clean and comfortable space with ample seating for parents 👍🏽
Terrific experience for children. Offers wonderful possibilities for children's confidence. Great with building teamanship, patience, as well as following instruction. The professionals are good by providing individual attention towards the student/student's. It is absolutely uplifting to see regarding teaching our youth. Cephas has been a great experience for my son Brysen, everyone in the class was friendly and welcoming. Wouldn’t bring Bry to another class in the valley.
Sensei J is awesome with the kids! Working with children for ages 3 and up he is big on discipline and technique. Seeing my kids go from white to green belt is so rewarding and has helped so much with their confidence. He has trained them to be great warriors!
My kid has been going here for a while now and she loves to come every time. Sensei Cepha is strict but also very compassionate with his students. Couldn’t have picked a better person to teach my kid how to defend themselves.

My son has been going to Cephas BJJ for 4 months now and loves it, he always leaves excited trying to practice his moves with everyone he comes across that is willing to practice with him. They do an awesome job working with each child and knowing the limits of every child they work with. Sensei J along with all the other coaches do great work teaching children how to defend themselves.
My daughters have been training in the entry level 3-6 year old class for a year now and I signed myself up for the adults class 4 months ago. My daughters have gained a lot of self confidence and it’s really nice to have some added structure to their schedules and something to channel their energy effectively. Sensei and the support coaches have been excellent and make each class fun and engaging for the girls. The adults class is great too, I get individual attention from Sensei each day to make sure that I’m successfully implementing the new techniques. The fellow kids and adults in the dojo are all very nice and no one is out for themselves trying to submit everyone at every possible opportunity. Fellow adults are always giving me tips while we roll and showing me where I made a mistake and how to fix that- I really appreciate this environment that Sensei has created here as I’m able to learn during rolls and it’s not about individuals taking every opportunity for themselves where I end up just getting submitted and not learning what I did wrong so I wouldn’t have the opportunity to improve my own skills.
Cephas Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the PREMIER BJJ gym in Las Vegas. Sensei J is incredible with kids. They all listen very well and learn here with ease. Both of our boys have been here and have loved every minute. They are both on the quiet side, but after some time here with Sensei J, they have really come out of their shell and and have enjoyed every single minute here. We are more than happy with the classes provided here and wouldn't want our Jiu Jitsu journey to be anywhere else but here. Join this gym and you will not be disappointed!
I don’t have experience with any other karate/jiu jitsu dojo but this place is so great. The perfect mix of structure and fun. My girls have been coming for 1 year age 4 and 6 and they have both learned so much and have made so many friends!
We enrolled our 6 year old daughter and 3.5 year old son with Cephas BJJ about 9 months ago. The experience has been amazing. The lessons on the mat are terrific, but it really helped our daughter focus and find something she really loves. Our son loves class and looks forward to it everyday. My daughter has been coming here for 2 years, she started when she was just 3 years old. She was so scared and way too sweet. She’d cry for the first couple of months - she did not want to come. Eventually this became home to her and she now loves it! Her confidence is through the roof and she now understands what she’s there to do and just does it! She is excelling! Sensei J is the best with kids and he really speaks their language. I wouldn’t want my little girl anywhere else.
We decided to bring our daughter for BJJ with Sensei Jay. This is a family and team environment that we were looking for. There is a sense of support from everyone how attends or participates in the classes.

No one seems to have brought this up but this place gets crowded during the night classes for the kids. Sometimes there are over 30 kids, all shoulder to shoulder, with no room for them to really stretch out and do their moves. It’s a very small studio and the coach tries to do his best to give each kid some one on one time but while he does, there are a lot of little kids losing focus and when they loose focus they get disciplined by doing push ups. So if you want to see your kid cry and get discouraged when they aren’t able to practice their techniques, bring them here.
