Buckner has really helped my 7 yo son gain confidence and body strength. My son is diagnosed with anxiety but the discipline, sense of community and camaraderie in Buckner has definitely helped him manage / cope better. He absolutely loves it and has become so passionate about getting better and better. The instructors do a great job of pushing the kids to give their best, while at the same time ensuring they have fun. They not only work on Karate skills, but also provide opportunities for fun games that build their other skills and sportsmanship. We originally signed up just for a summer, but my son loved it son much we are now 7 months in!

Our family loves Buckner Martial Arts! The senseis and senpais are extremely knowledgable and thoughtfully instruct people of all ages and abilities. My husband and kids attend the family karate class together. It’s been a great experience for building discipline and strength, while bonding and forming quality relationships with others in the class. My kids have also developed valuable lifelong skills through karate competition: respect, resilience, focus, and control. The boxing classes are fantastic too! I have really enjoyed exploring boxing on a more technical level plus it’s really fun. I highly recommend BMA!

Fun, I enjoy that the whole family can learn and work out together. My mom, me, and my boy all take the same class together. I am also enjoying not being the only adult in the class. It is a fun way to stay motivated to stay active. Also, I love that they do many events in the community. Donating to local animal shelters and collecting for other groups.

My 4-yr old has been coming here for about 5 months now and they do a great job with the tots karate class. He is learning a ton of new things: from strength training, a bit of Japanese terms, working on his Kata and sparring!!! He is also making several friends in the process. Perhaps the best thing about the dojo is that the coaches and parents are very supportive. We really enjoy coming here and I look forward to seeing how my son progresses.

This review comes 31-years later and from 2000 miles away. I was a student as a kid and studied under—then, sensei—Shihan Steve and Renshi Stephanie. Ever since, karate has been a part of my identity and something I remember fondly from my childhood and teen years. I wasn’t the most skilled or impressive student, but I paid attention and have continued studying and practicing both kobudo and karate throughout my adult life, taking what I learned and seeking out literature and instruction in Okinawan karate on my own. Even now, I’ll suddenly understand a technique Shihan showed me that I didn’t fully grasp 30-years ago. Today, I am a successful adult where the lessons I learned have shaped who I am now. The resilience, confidence, sense of self-respect, treating others with dignity, and perseverance in the face of life’s challenges is something that was instilled in me; it’s something that I continue to call upon throughout my life. Along side my Buddhist upbringing, Steve and Stephanie are directly responsible for that. My daughter has recently shown an aptitude for martial arts. After exploring studios in my local area, I’ve yet to find something that lives up to the experience I was accustomed to at the Buckner dojo. Over 20 years ago, I moved across the country. I carried a piece of Hayashi Shito Ryu and Kenshin Ryu with me. I’m now teaching my daughter the kihon, kata, and kobudo I learned at her age. I cherish the opportunity I have to share it with her. Even though I’m far away, I have followed the growth of the Buckner dojo over the years. I’m delighted to watch its students thrive. Although their reputation is well established in the community, I’m compelled to share my story here so others may get a glimpse of the long-lasting impact Buckner Martial Arts can have on a child well into his adulthood. Senseis offers excellent karate classes that are a blend of karate techniques, sparring, kata, and general fitness. I have been attending for nearly a year now and love it. There is a great sense of community here and other students are always extremely helpful and friendly. The workouts here are intense, but they are designed help you to continuously improve and get better. Thanks to training at Buckner martial arts Dojo, I am in the best shape of my life now and have even shed 20 lbs since joining. I plan on staying for years to come! OSU!

My daughter went to Buckner Martial Arts as a teenager, earned a Black Belt and competed nationally for their Competition Team. Her personal transformation was exciting to watch as she grew up in this great environment. I took karate here when I was younger, and now my sons are enrolled in the tots program. The classes teach discipline, respect, and help to improve motor skills and coordination. The instructors are firm but kind and ensure the safety of all children is top priority. They treat everyone equally and fairly, and it is a good learning environment for not only the students but for the parents and observers. Highly recommend.

One of the best Dojo in usa, the best dojo in Cincinnati, what i love most about Buckner Martial arts is the coaches because they are all former champions, they know what they are doing, they transmit their experience and karate ethics to the kids, the reason why they are winning many many medals every time they fight national and international. We have been involved with Buckner Martial Arts for many years. They are the premier karate program in the Liberty Township and West Chester area. They have long standing connections with many dojos throughout the United States and some nationally. They provide expert trainings, you learn about the culture of the karate program, and are given mutliple opportunities to socialize and become part of a family! The Buckner Family also does a lot of community programs and support the community in various ways whether it be providing Christmas Gifts for families, Food Drives for ReachOut Lakota, or animal food and supply drives. They also offer many different payment programs and contract options. Expect to abide by your contract that you agree too as this is a business too. You save by signing up for 6month and 12 month contracts vs. 1 month. If a medical need or a family need arises, they are very understanding and will move your contract dates if necessary. I took karate here for many years as a kid and worked up to a 1st degree black belt. Way back when they were in the lot by the CVS that is by the train tracks by Tylersville and Cincinnati Dayton Rd. I continued to their new dojo in the Fountains square area. They were a quality dojo, and I learned some good karate skills as a kid. I do remember some petty drama between the owner (Steve Buckner's) wife and my mom which is why we left. Also, my concern is that the Shito Ryu Karate Do they taught just doesn't have the "toughness" and "street worthy" factor that MMA, Brazilian J.J., etc. have. It's more showy and organized, which isn't how real life street fights are. As an adult I now train at such a studio and the simple, padded, sparring is nothing compared to MMA, Boxing, Brazillian J.J., etc.

I went here for Karate when I was a kid for years (starting back when they were located next to the train tracks at the corner of Tylersville and Cin-Day, and continued when they moved to where Jorge Gurgel Martial Arts Center is now) and worked my way up to brown belt. I eventually decided to quit though because Stephanie Buckner was such a bully to me as an instructor; too quick to put you down and make you feel terrible instead of trying to help you improve. Hopefully she is better today but I wouldn't send my children here knowing that she is now the "Master Instructor".
