I am a woman and have been doing bjj for about 3 years. I love Clay and he always teaches technique that is unique, solid, and useful. I can be my fiercest self at this gym and appreciate that. There is a strong female group and all men that train here are safe. I highly recommend broken anvil for anyone that is new to bjj or to anyone that isn’t into murder pajamas. The community is great and you’ll be stronger and have a better game than ever!
One of the best, most friendly environments that I've ever had the pleasure of training in. I've done martial arts all my life, but Broken Anvil is one of the only places I've felt both challenged and supported. Clay makes every session a great learning experience, and I can't wait until my next class at Broken Anvil.
This place is in a league of its own. I really do enjoy learning and training at this gym. I love their take on jiu jitsu and they are unlike any other jiu jitsu gym. So if you are looking to expand your BJJ journey beyond the gi check this place out.

This Jiu-jitsu gym is freaking awesome man. I was visiting from another Jiu-jitsu gym and they treated me with kindness, love and respect. They made me feel very welcome and everyone help me become a better martial artist. If you ever though about doing Jiu-jitsu. Do it with these guys. I can't say enough good things about broken anvil. They welcomed me back whenever I am back in town. And I will most definitely come back for not only the Jiu-jitsu, but for the new brothers I have made there.

I dont think my jiu jitsu experience would have been nearly as perfect if I had begun at another gym. Theres no ego at Broken Anvil and every single person on this team are willing to share their knowledge and experience with the utmost patience. Clay and Nate are ideal head coaches while Lauren, Jonas, and Clayton couldnt be better leaders for the kids classes. My son and I have been here for a year and wouldn’t change a thing!
Came in town for work and had a chance to train at Broken Anvil. The owners were super friendly and everyone there was very welcoming. The way I felt was like I’ve been training there for years. Great setting, good people. I would definitely come back if I’m ever back in town.
I was in town visiting for the weekend and stopped in for a Saturday class. The facility is very clean and well kept and everyone was very welcoming! Definitely a great combination of skillful technique and conditioning and great female training partners. A room full of tough yet friendly grapplers that pushed me and made me feel very comfortable to train!
Was in town from Chicago and dropped in for a Saturday class ran by Clay. The gym was super welcoming, high level technique was shown, hard but friendly rounds, and good vibes all around! Would recommend to anyone
Was in Nashville for work and wanted to get a couple sessions in. Everyone here was super friendly and helpful. Acted as if I had been going there from day 1. Great instruction from Clay. Was able to go as hard or light as I felt like that day. 10 out of 10 would recommend. Will definitely come back next time I'm in town
Trained here for over a year now. Always tough rounds, but I never feel unsafe. Fantastic community, great atmosphere, and full of killers. If you’re looking to get good fast, BA is for you.
I couldn't have asked for a better jiu-jitsu experience while passing through town for a drop in. Awesome instructions, very friendly and welcoming class, AND Clay even gave me a ride back to my truck. Definitely one of the best all around gyms I've been to. Highly recommend! Thanks again, Clay!

I can't say enough good things about Broken Anvil. The teaching is great and you're able to really take in everything they show. You're also going to get in one heck of a workout. Above all, I think they have an amazing atmosphere. Everyone's welcoming, eager to learn, and happy to be there.

I cannot say enough about my positive feelings toward Broken Anvil. Next level technique, and instruction to match. Friendly and respectful. Great environment for both the competitor and the hobbyist. After training at other gyms in the past, I feel like my understanding of the sport is growing faster than it ever has and I am proud to call Broken Anvil my home gym. Clay’s approach to instruction is structured and systematic, building on past lessons while laying foundation for future instruction. I always leave class feeling like I have learned something new. Classes are 1.5 hours and include warmups (non typical, relevant to that evenings instruction), drilling, conditioning, and live sparring. Also, a big shoutout to coach Zack and his fundamental program which accompanies group class instruction and is sure to accelerate learning for the beginner. All around great gym environment. If you are looking for the best BJJ in Nashville, look no further.
Had an errand to run in hermitage and decided to drop in and cross train. It’s a nice, clean, small facility. The owner and members are friendly. As an older person with injuries and a smaller female I try and pick my partners wisely. Everyone that rolled with me moved well and matched speed and strength. I have a home gym in the area but I’ll definitely drop in again for some no gi.

I don't train in Broken Anvil. But the time that I went to visit I could see the group environment is really good. Clay is a great instructor and was very welcoming the day that I was there.
If you’re looking to get in shape, find a community and learn a new skill look no further than Broken Anvil. I’ve been training under Clay for about 5 months now and have loved every second being here. Going into jiu jitsu by myself was scary and I didn’t know what to expect but the people at Broken Anvil are some of the nicest people you’ll encounter and will make you feel like you belong here. If you’re wanting to start jiu jitsu and you’re worried about not being able to keep up, they also offer beginner classes which I’ve found to be very helpful when starting out. If you’ve been training for awhile and are looking to try out a new gym this is the perfect place to have some competitive rolls and a good place to meet some cool people. Don’t be scared to take the first step in your journey!
Top notch, welcoming atmosphere and a great jiu jitsu system that ties together in every position. Great workout-throwing a random cardio round in during rolling is a fantastic idea and has me in far better shape than when I started a few months ago!

I have been training under Professor Clay for over a year now. He is a great coach. He teaches awesome moves, and breaks it down to teach it in a very understandable way. Broken Anvil has a great atmosphere. Everybody is always in a great mood, training hard. Broken Anvil goes hard. What I like the most about Clay is he cares about his students learning. If I am lazy and don't show up for awhile, he asks where I've been and encourages me to show up more - he is always encouraging and willing to help if I don't understand how to do something.
If you're in the Nashville area especially north Nashville this is a place you got to come check out for yourself. The Instruction is top tier, and the people are amazing. The room is competitive but everyone is working as a team to get better, egos are left at the door and everyone comes together to perfect their craft. They work very hard in there so be ready to sweat, but also be ready to find your forever gym because once you come once, you're gonna be back for more. Very Clean, Awesome merchandise, and amazing people, hope to see you in there soon! I've never felt more safe at gym, for someone that has dealt with injuries a lot this is very important to me and everyone there is very respectful and really tries to take care of their training partner.
One of the coolest gyms I’ve trained at. Came in from out of town and everyone was very welcoming. The gym had a great atmosphere and the guys played good jiu jitsu. Anytime I’m in Nashville this is where I will train.
Clay at Broken Anvil is an amazing instructor. Period. His passion and energy comes through in every class and you can tell he genuinely cares about each student and wants to see them grow. It doesn’t stop there, when I came through the doors not knowing a single thing all the other students were so gracious and patient with me and were nothing but encouraging. This is a great environment for both new practitioners of the sport and the highly experienced!
