I trained at this club from summer 2021 to summer 2023, Sensei Brennan and Pelan (the main teachers here) are excellent, they teach the basic techniques thoroughly and drive progressively the students towards technical excellence, while keeping common sense in the balance between efficiency for self defense and correctness of the moves. The variety of situations and techniques is so wide that you'll never feel bored! The atmosphere is great and respectful (the etiquette on the mat is important to train safely), you might be sometimes asked to go the extra mile but always respectfully and with common sense regarding your level, which really helps progress. I am currently kept away from the mat due to an injury not related to this sport, but I can't wait to get my feet back on the mat. The club also offers a kid's session that looks fun and entertaining for the kids while teaching them useful and important lessons for life. Overall there's a great atmosphere and obviously many opportunities to end up at the pub after a session for socializing.

I joined Bristol Town Jitsu club almost two years ago. Training here has been the highlight of my week since I started. Coming from a martial arts background (I also do Karate) I wanted to expand my learning to a new martial art that included elements I didn’t get to work with as much. The instructors are not only extremely competent and knowledgeable they are very clearly very passionate about their art they’re also some of the friendliest, funniest people ever. They have encouraged me relentlessly and with endless patience throughout my jitsu journey so far, I owe a lot of new confidence and skill to their excellent instruction. They make everything clear and break down techniques so perfectly, which speaks to how experienced and excellent instructors they are. From the simplest to the most complex techniques it’s always been a pleasure and a fun experience to try things out in the safe environment the instructors create. In addition to this, the club is full of incredible, friendly people, who I look forward to seeing every week. I’ve made some incredible friends here. The welcoming atmosphere is felt from your very first session and training is always light hearted, fun and full of laughs. That being said we are a very dedicated hard working club, who push and support each other to our limits. From my perspective Jiu jitsu is a very useful martial art in that it teaches you how to get up close and personal in combat situations, it gives you excellent techniques for day to day self defence. Despite having down over a decade of karate I have seen a significant improvement in my own approach and confidence regarding self defence. The range of things we learn covers everything from the most structured techniques to the most scrappy. If all the great training isn’t enough, this club itself has a very vibrant social life, we regularly organise socials and hang out. And being part of The Jiu Jitsu Foundation we also have many national and even international events (training and competitions) organised that we attend as a club! I have been a number of these events and they’ve been some of my fondest memories. There is so much more I could say, it’s hard to stop singing the praises of Bristol Twon Jiu Jitsu. I would highly recommend this club to anyone of any level and martial arts experience who wants to learn something fun (and very useful) while surrounded by incredible people❤️

My kids go to Junior Jiu Jitsu on Tuesday evenings. Great to teach the kids self-defence in a fun and safe environment. Sensei Richard is the best!
