Really great place. Master Chimpy is an excellent coach and really brings out the best in the kids. Very supportive. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to get their kids involved in BJJ!

Excellent community created at Phronesis Jiu Jitsu. Master Chimpy is an excellent and patient teacher who has the challenge of teaching “The Torturer” for the past year. The passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is obvious and we are glad to have them apart of the Kwinana precinct providing much needed guidance and discipline to the community.

My kids and I have been training here for about a year, and it has been an incredible experience. Coach Chimpy is exceptional—his genuine passion for teaching and the level of care he shows every student make training both fun and rewarding. The club has a diverse community, ranging from hobbyists of all ages to highly competitive state champions. Whatever your goals are, you’ll find the right support here. Most importantly, the environment is safe and the community truly cares about one another. We leave egos at the door to focus on learning, sharing knowledge, and helping each other improve every day. I can’t speak highly enough of Phronesis BJJ and Coach Chimpy. Enrolling my son has been one of the best decisions we’ve made. He’s naturally energetic and competitive, and this has given him a positive, structured outlet to channel that energy. Not only has it helped him physically, but we’ve also seen a big improvement in his focus, discipline, and confidence. Watching his progress over time has been incredibly rewarding. The environment at the gym is supportive and encouraging, which makes a huge difference for kids learning something new. Coach Chimpy has a great way of connecting with the students firm but positive and clearly cares about their development both on and off the mats. Seeing how much my son enjoyed it and how much he was gaining from it actually inspired me to step onto the mats myself for the first time. I’m glad I did. The gym has a genuinely friendly atmosphere, and as a beginner, I felt welcomed straight away. The coaching is clear, patient, and high quality, making it a great place to learn regardless of your experience level. If you’re looking for a place that builds skill, confidence, and character for both kids and adults I’d highly recommend Phronesis BJJ.

Let me tell you a bit about the Phronesis Jiu Jitsu gym. When I walked through their doors just over a year ago, I found a welcoming community of people who didn’t judge me for my complete lack of skills, but rather encouraged and supported me on my journey and still do. At the centre of this community is the owner and coach, Chimpy, who is totally committed to every student’s BJJ journey. He, in my opinion, strikes the perfect balance with his coaching. Full of praise when you do things right but not afraid to call you out when you mess up, (though not in a way that denigrates the student. )No sugar coating here! Though driving a culture of respect and professionalism he’s also great at keeping things light with his sense of humour. In summary, if you’re looking to start, or even continue your BJJ journey, Phronesis Jiu Jitsu gym is the place to do it!

I cannot recommend Phronesis Jiu Jitsu highly enough. Having trained at several Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gyms before, I can confidently say after two years at this gym it stands out as a truly exceptional place to train. The level of education is world-class with highly skilled instructors; Chimpy and Gabriel. If you’re looking for a gym that combines top-tier education with an amazing sense of community, Phronesis is the place to be.
