Had an amazing experience at this gym. Samuel Braga is a legend so it was nice to see that he is an extremely humble, down to earth guy. This is always nice to find when you’re traveling. All of the students are very well trained and very respectful and SAFE. I would take my son here anytime if I was local. Thanks for having me and I hope to see you all again 🙌🏽

Visited Knoxville and did a drop-in. It’s a welcoming environment. I’m a family man, it was nice to see all the kids and families training and having a good time. The level of skill in the room was fantastic, his team has great pressure and wrestling. If I lived in Knoxville, I would train here.

My 4 year old has been to two classes and he is having a lot of fun. The instructors are very friendly and always come out to greet everyone by name.
Coach Sherly, coach Roby and coach Samuel are fantastic with the kids. Very knowledgeable, passionate and dedicated to their job. Our kids learned many techniques and they practice even at home in their spare time. Highly recommend Gracie Barra Knoxville.

I'm new to Knoxville and wanted to get into BJJ. This was the first gym I visited in the area. It was superior to any BJJ gym I'd tried where I used to live. I had intended to visit four BJJ gyms in Knoxville before making any sort of commitment. After 5 minutes at GB Knoxville, I was ready to sign up. The instructors are, of course, highly qualified, and they are also very welcoming and personable. As a woman in a mostly-male gym, I had some reservations, but the staff and students were all very appropriate at all times. The atmosphere at this gym is positive and enthusiastic. Instructors balance encouragement with constructive feedback. In particular Professor Dave is great to work with because he is so skilled at offering pointers in a way that is empowering rather than discouraging. Even the gym's owner and instructor is very personable, greeting friends as they enter and sometimes making a joke during a demonstration. Gracie Barra Knoxville provides world-class jiu jitsu instruction. Samuel Braga is basically the god of Jiu Jitsu. Maybe not God himself, but Moses at least. In almost any class session, several blackbelts are present and willing to help the beginners. I think there are probably 20 or so blackbelts that frequent this gym. From the moment I set foot on the mat during my "trial" class, I always felt comfortable approaching the instructors or other random blackbelts if I needed clarification or someone to drill with. After 3 months at this gym, I have a good conceptualization of jiu jitsu as well as an understanding of precision and fluidity. My technical skill has improved remarkably, and moves that were once difficult or awkward are now intuitive and reflexive. #GBBJJ4Life

To start of this review, I want to state that the instruction is very good and the instructors are great. Good location off the freeway and large facility to hold everyone.
The best Bjj in Knoxville hands down. I want to put a number on how many world championships Samuel the head instructor has won, but if I did I would be changing my review almost every year. The guy is that good. If you want the best BJJ in Knoxville this is it 100%. He has created many champions, and isn’t slowing down. Swing, in and check it out.

First time goer and it is so much fun. They discuss techniques with you, answer any questions you have, and train you with safety as their priority. I used to wrestle in high school and I kept learning new moves from them. They also helped break things down. They're a great group of experienced professionals.

Gracie Barra Knoxville has been one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had. Sam Braga is not only one of the best BJJ athletes of all time, but one of the greatest coaches I have ever had. Not once have I ever talked to someone who has not loved training here and grown as a better athlete and confident, dedicated person. I would recommended this gym to everyone!! No matter what size, skill level, or amount of confidence. You will become great at this place!

As a 60 yr old (male) starting bjj a few months ago with my 23 yr old son, this is a great workout and fantastic learning experience. The science of bjj is amazing. Samuel takes care to see everyone is learning at their own pace and making the most of their abilities.

Been coming here for a couple months now for my teenage son to take lessons. He loves it and everyone has been very friendly.
Just joined a few weeks ago and so far it has been a great experience. So much to learn. And of course you get a great workout while you train. Professor Braga is extremely knowledgeable and goes out of his way to provide instruction to the new folks.
Previously gave a negative review due to poor communication, but the number I gave Sam was incorrect and he was unable to reach me. Was charged automatically and had asked for a refund and he kindly said he would give me one. Then it had been a couple weeks with no refund and he personally reached out to me via Facebook since my telephone number was incorrect and offered me a refund in person and another incentive for the inconvenience. Wonderful gym and I enjoyed the atmosphere very much. Would recommend this place to anyone. Wonderful people as well.
I’ve trained here for almost 2 years and have loved every day of it. Great instructor and great school with clean mats. You can get a 30 day trial but after the first class you’ll definitely want to sign up as a permanent member. There’s so many classes you can find one to fit your schedule.

Gb Knox is a great place to train. Samuel is a great professor, and there are so many awesome training partners there. There are a ton of classes, starting at 6 AM, going until 8:30 on some nights. You have plenty of options, and the environment is fun and you will learn A LOT! Highly recommend training here.

Gracie Barra Knoxville is by far the most incredible martial arts school in Knoxville and probably even the whole state of Tennessee. Samual is an incredibly talented martial artist and teacher. The atmosphere is great for both kids and adults. If you’re looking to try martial arts, or even just get in shape, this is by far my number 1 recommendation for both.

We just recently moved to Knoxville. Jiu jitsu is a passion I share with my son, so as you can understand finding the right place is important to me.. With that in mind I did my homework well before our move. From the second I walked in, I knew I found the perfect place to train with my son. Mr. Samuel genuinely makes you feel right at home from the first second you walk in. It does not matter if he is on the mat rolling or what he is doing, he will drop what he is doing to welcome you. Most importantly don't forget the world class experience he holds! All I can say is just try it out, you will not want to train at any other place!!l
