Great coaching skills! Very patient and determined to teach my daughter the right techniques. She started not knowing anything of self defense, now she knows a mixture of MMA, jiu jitsu, and even warmups. She knows basic fundamentals and is more confident with her skills, each practice helps her more with her performance. Seeing her progress each weekend is amazing!! Thank you coach juan.

We’re so glad we found this martial arts academy. My son has only attended three classes so far, and he’s already starting to feel more confident. He’s had a tough time with bullying, struggles with staying focused, and has always been a bit underweight—so we were really hoping this class would be a positive outlet for him. The coaches are wonderful with the kids, offering guidance and encouragement, especially when my son seemed unsure of what to do. Even in just a short time, I’ve noticed a boost in his confidence. We’re excited to continue and see how much he grows, both mentally and physically, as he sticks with it.

I couldn’t be happier with the entire staff at Bonita Martial Arts Academy! My 14-year-old son has been attending for just four months, and in that short time, he has gained confidence, lost weight, and truly enjoys every session. He looks forward to his training, and it's been amazing to watch his growth. The coaches are top-notch—Coach Beto (Alberto Trujillo "El Filly") is a genuine MMA fighter, a great communicator, and an incredible coach. Coach Tina ("The Predator") is another Pro-MMA fighter, and if you check out the BMAA Instagram page, you’ll see just how fantastic she is with the kids! Our only regret is that we didn’t sign him up sooner. Highly recommended for anyone looking to build confidence, discipline, and skills in a supportive and professional environment!

Bonita Martial Arts Academy has been an incredible place for my son since he started training in 2019. He began as a shy 11-year-old, and through the guidance of the amazing coaches—Coach Juan, Coach Tina, Coach Alberto, Coach Daniel and Coach Miguel —he has grown into a confident young man and is now a blue belt. The coaches are not only skilled but also genuinely invested in their students’ growth, both in martial arts and in life. The academy has a strong, family-oriented atmosphere, offering an excellent training environment for all levels. We are so grateful to have found this place, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for top-quality martial arts training!

My girls have gained so much confidence from training at BMAA. Through Coach Miguel's BJJ instruction, they've gotten gold in various tournaments, to include JJWL, one of the best out there. Coach Tina and Coach Beto's Kickboxing/Muy Thai instruction is the best, as I always have fun and get an excellent workout in their classes. The gym has done so much for our family. Thank you!!

Absolutely awesome experience at this gym! My son started training here, and watching him on the mats got me motivated to sign up too. Now, it’s something we get to enjoy together, which has been a great bonding experience. The coaches are top-notch—super skilled, friendly, and incredibly patient, whether they’re working with the little ones or us hard-to-train adults. The atmosphere is welcoming, and everyone is always willing to help, no matter your skill level. If you’re thinking about trying BJJ, this is definitely the place to do it!

What started as looking for an after school activity resulted in finding a second family. What to expect when you visit us ? You will be greeted by coaches that are knowledge in martial arts and will help you develop a plan to meet your goals and schedule. There is really something for all individuals ages 3 to 100+. When the coaches greet a new child to the mat they focus on safety first and etiquette. All the coaches focus on different disciplines but with the ultimate goal to foster love for martial arts to everyone. It is truly amazing to see the progress of children. It's not hard to be consistent in this gym when it's a fun family friendly space with structure. Ask about their new programs as they have partnered up with the Regional Center to reach more individuals in becoming active and engaged. There is something for everyone to become a part of at BMAA. This place is great. They focus on technique, safety and attitude. We were able to do a trial class and my son said it was too difficult and he didn't want to continue but I told him that he needed to stick with it and the next week he started to enjoy the classes more and more and now he enjoys every part of it. All the coaches are fair and helpful and actively engaged 100% of the class and expect the kids to as well. They also teach reapect for self and others and its really fun to see from all the kids. As a parent if you want to encourage growth and physical fitness as well as self protection for your child this is a great place to do it. Love everything about BMAA.

Highly recommend this gym! My autistic son has thrived here and the coaches are so friendly and assertive at the same time creating a great learning environment for all kids with and without special learning differences. We have made great long lasting friendships with other parents as well. Overall just an amazing community of fighters who truly care❤️

There are a lot of options for martial arts schools in San Diego County. You may be feeling like you won't make the right choice because there are so many. BMAA has absolutely been the right choice for my child. The coaches are knowledgeable, patient, and caring. You can tell that they teach out of the love of the sport and truly wish to pass on their knowledge and skill to the next generation. Their ability to make the information understandable, repeatable, and executable always leaves me impressed. Especially when dealing with little kids. You can truly tell they were meant to coach and help form young minds. Each coach has something special in their approach that appeals to all types of personalities, so when one approach may not be clicking, another coach is there to reach the individual needing direction. Personally my child loves to attend and very much looks forward to his workouts. I have seen a change in his ability to focus and drastic improvement in his body movement during drills in just a few months. There is also a firm grasp of respect for self and others that is being instilled and reinforced. While also nurturing a spirit of competition, and acceptance of losses. I could not be more pleased with his progress in his time spent here every week. I hope that he continues here for a long time. Thank you to the coaches for making each session new and engaging for the kids. Coach Paulinho, Coach Tina, and Coach Alberto, please keep up the great work. Special shout out to Coach Alberto, you have a way of making my kid listen and focus that has impressed me the most. Also Coach Brianna for all your help with getting us squared away.

My story with BMAA began 6 months ago when my son asked to go for a tryout class that he ended up sitting out and spending next to me because he was too shy/nervous to participate. BMAA followed up with us several times after this class and eventually, since my son showed no interest to go back, I asked them to stop following up and we will reach back out when he's ready. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago where my son declared he is done with swim classes and wants to do karate. So, we scheduled another tryout class which he actually participated in and did an awesome job! The coaches at BMAA are friendly, patient, helpful and really nice! My son has been loving classes so far (and hopefully it stays that way), he's learning self defense while having fun, gaining confidence AND being disciplined (could you ask for anything more?!). Well, to top all of this - my daughter, who is 2.5 y/o decided she wants to participate in class too, and while I was expecting the coaches to kindly tell her to get off the mat and sit next to mommy, they actually encouraged her, helped her, showed her how to do the routines and treated her as equal as the rest of the kids (!!!!). I was blown away by this. THANK YOU coach Tina, coach Celia, and the other 2 male coaches I don't know their names :( (Coach Polino, maybe?)

With the help of classmates and coaches we have learned great technique, discipline, and teamwork. The staff is always attentive and encouraging. We have been coming here for about 6 months, I have a 4 year old and 11 year old. The coaches are PHENOMENAL, as someone who has worked with children of all needs and capabilities for a very long time, they demonstrate extensive knowledge not only about their craft but how to teach and interact with children at all levels. The coaches are professional and kind. In 6 months my older son who has ADHD is holding attention during class, making friends, and gaining confidence. Game changer.

I been training at this gym for about a year and this gym is the place to be. Not only do I get quality training but my kids do to. I’ve lost over 50lbs and learned great techniques in Jiu Jitsu and boxing. The coaches are very knowledgeable! This gym is very family oriented.
