Love it here got invited for a Halloween event
Posted 10 months agoMy kids have been coming here since October 2023. My daughter was 4 and my son was 6 when they started. Professor Dustin & Professor Matt have been more than amazing with them. Not only do the coaches teach them drills and technique but as a parent I so appreciate how they incorporate life lessons about focus/discipline/commitment/winning and losing/how to treat others, etc into their teachings. Additional back story for parents who are looking for their kids: My son had behavioral issues at school before he started here. I spoke to a behavioral analyst and she told me a lot of little kids (she's seen more so with boys) have tons of energy that need to get out of their bodies but when it sits in them it shows up as inappropriate behavior especially in places like a classroom setting. She recommended I put him in something that really tires him out. So I landed at this studio and his behavior since then has been night and day. The sport has really helped him have a healthy outlet to get his energy out. He loves it so much and even has become obsessed with competing in the sport. He lost his first competition he signed up for but I think losing was one of the best things that has happened to him because now he's committed to getting better and his coaches have really supported him through that. I am very grateful for studio 33. Thank you Coach Dustin & Coach Matt! —- Feb 2025 Update — It’s been 1.5 years of our family being with this studio and we are still loving it. I wanted to update our review to give more input on any kiddos who may want to start competing in tournaments. My children are grey/white belts now and competed in about 10 tournaments last year while they were white belts. Their coaches Professor Dustin & Professor Matt really supported them. The coaches are all very supportive of whatever your competition goals are- they don’t push them but will support you if you want it. My kids love Friday Competition Class which is open for any kids who are interested in getting Competition Ready. We have a competition board where we will write down upcoming tournaments and the names of any kids or adults signed up. The families at this studio are all so welcoming and friendly. They are all willing to help and explain the competition culture and competition days are so much fun! The girls love competing because they all do matching braids, it’s super cute. My husband also ended up joining Jiu Jitsu in the AM 530 classes and goes consistently 4-5x per week. He loves it for bonding with our children through the sport, for great exercise and he also started competing! He has done 5 competitions and is signed up for 3 more in the next coming months. If you are interested in joining a studio just to learn about the techniques/sport then this is a great studio to check out. If you are looking for a studio and have goals of competing then this is also a great local studio to check out!
If you're looking for a solid group to learn and practice jiu jitsu with, Studio 33 is it. My daughter has been training here since 2022 and enjoys every minute of it. We've noticed a huge improvement in her mental fortitude and a tremendous boost in her self-confidence. The camaraderie and support at this gym are simply unmatched. Professor Dustin and Professor Matt (along with all the other coaches) genuinely care about their student's growth and development and always provide honest feedback. If you're considering this gym, don't hesitate—give it a go! You won’t regret it!
Studio 33 is the BEST. Just show up, and from day 1 you will be welcomed into a family. Our son has been practicing at Studio 33 for two years now, and we’ve seen how Coach Dustin and Coach Matt (along with all the other coaches there) take their time with him to help him become strong and confident, more focused and regulated both on and off the mat. They use jiujitsu to teach kids valuable lessons about life. The other families are so kind and we love seeing our kids grow together. It’s also a fantastic workout that teaches discipline, practice, and will help your children out in all areas of their health. We can’t recommend this studio highly enough!
I cannot say enough good things about this place and the amazing group of people there. The instructors set the tone with their dedication and desire to share their jiujitsu knowledge. joining this gym has re-awakened my competitive spirit, my desire to get in shape and continue to learn this beautiful sport. I highly recommend anyone interested to come in and see for themselves.
As a mom of two both of my kids really enjoy their time training. The professors are very professional and really care about the growth of their students on the mat and out in the world. Great place!
Amazing place to train, learn, and grow!!! All the professors are dedicated and respectful. They truly show how much they care about Jiu Jitsu and their students. From a clean space and great community Studio 33 is the place to go to begin or continue your Jiu Jitsu journey!
I’ve been going to Studio 33 bjj for a little over a month now. Professor Dustin and the other coaches are very welcoming and genuinely care about teaching the art of jiu jitsu! They offer a variety of classes for all levels. If you’re looking for a great jiu jitsu gym this is the place to go! They’ll take good care of you!
Yes, this place is very cool I guess, i love the part where we have to free train you should really go here and the couches there are really nice.
Studio 33 is one of the most welcoming gyms I have been to. Every time I visit San Diego, my goal is to visit Dustin and get some rounds in. Great people, great instructors, great vibe!
The people at this gym treat you like family. Not just the instructors but the fellow students. Everyone is open to learning and teaching without the attached egos. It is a great place to train for me and family.
I've known Professor Dustin for over 4yrs now and they way he carries himself on and off the mats is nothing short of exemplary. He is always there for his students and anyone in our community. The Passion he has for our martial arts lifestyle and thirst to share his knowledge to better all around him is what makes him a true leader and a standout in our community. I would recommend everyone to go visit Dustin and learn from him in life and bjj.
I first trained with Dustin almost 10 years ago. His professionalism is only matched by his empathy. His Jiu-Jitsu is clean and mean and I still use techniques he taught me. If you have the opportunity to roll at 33 you should. I guarantee your game will improve. Thank you for running an awesome academy and being a great professor. Osssss
My first BJJ class, I was relatively terrified for. But when I entered, the Professor Dustin(yes, THE Professor Dustin) and the other instructors/workers at the place were very welcoming! I learned quite a lot the first day, they got me ready to survive this sport. The students in Studio 33 are people who are very eager to learn and truly help their peers. If you have trouble, the instructors won't be the only ones helping. Its been a blast so far! They are not to be feared like some teachers from actual school. This place is legit with legit instructors, check it out!!
Great family atmosphere, training for all levels of bjj skill. Monthly membership cost extremely reasonable. Instructors and students interact with respect, no egos tolerated. School/training is great for physical and mental growth/development. Hours of operation are reasonable and fit for working members. Plenty of parking, easy access from nearby roads. Not easily visible from street, but next to Hans and Harry bakery as nearest point of interest.
Outstanding!!! Don't think... Just go! Clean, professional, welcoming and incredible instruction.
