Josh is a stand up guy and is doing great things at blue ridge BJJ. Would for sure recommend his program if you want a grappling academy with an emphasis on judo

I dropped in while on vacation, which is something I try to do whenever I travel. Being a stranger to the area, it was easy to pass up because it’s a little off the road, but no problem really. The facilities/mats were very clean, which is important when visiting a gym you don’t know. The instruction from Coach Josh was excellent and very detailed. It stood out to me that he took the time to give individual feedback/coaching to every student while drilling the lesson of the day. The training partners were great and I was able to get a wide range of rolling partners in one class. Everyone there rolled hard but graciously and respectfully during training, making it “feel like home.” Very comfortable training environment for a guest. I’ll be back, but not soon enough. Thanks for having me Blue Ridge!

They do great kids lessons, my kids are always asking when the next class is , always excited, they cannot wait to be there! They are professional, have a great family environment.

Jiu jitsu has given my son more than just physical skills — it’s given him confidence, focus, and strength. It’s also helped ease his anxiety. Knowing he has the ability to protect himself if needed brings him a sense of calm and control he didn’t have before. This isn’t just about self-defense — it’s about self-belief.

My son has recently joined this program for Judo and it has been a great all around experience! The instructor Tom is fantastic and takes his job very seriously with a deep sense of pride for what he is teaching these kids. He pushes them to dig deep and keeps them motivated.

I honestly can’t put into words the profound impact jiujitsu has had on my life. If I tried to, Josh Heath would be one of the very first people mentioned. He is a great coach, competitor, and friend. He genuinely cares about the advancement of each one of his students on and off the mat. I’m honored to call him my coach and blessed to have him in my corner while competing and training. I could go on and on about Josh and the rest of our team, because they have taught me so much more than just jiujitsu.. If you want to be involved in a very special team while also improving your personal life, come train and see for yourself exactly what I’m talking about.

Josh is one of the best coaches and competitors I’ve ever had the privilege to train with. On top of that, he’s personable and kind and creates an environment of friendliness wherever he goes. I couldn’t recommend this gym highly enough to anyone who wants to try Jiu Jitsu for the first time, wants to give Jiu Jitsu a second try, or has been doing the sport for years and wants to take their game to a new level.

I left an mma gym format and started training BJJ with Josh Heath 8 years ago. He is a great instructor that turned into a great friend. He has spent countless hours outside of regular classes helping coach me in my jiu-jitsu journey and we’ve had a lot of fun together along the way! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend his new school to a beginner or advanced level practitioner.

Really Great Judo and jitsu program. Self-defense is also apart of the syllabus. Tons of drilling time to learn techniques. Lead instructor meets with his students to develop their game. Overall really great environment, and excellent place to train. Would recommend.

This is an amazing place to train with a great community and atmosphere. It doesn’t matter what level you are at there is something for you and everyone makes you feel welcomed. The instructors are amazing and completely engaged with everyone. Whether you are a hobbyist, competitive, or just looking to stay fit with some self defense, this the the place to be.
