The environment is amazing. All the students are very welcoming. The facility is always clean and is family friendly. I’ve been rolling here for seven months and I do not regret a single minute of it. I have had an absolute blast being a part of this gym.

Blacksmith is the BEST!!! Our boys both started jiu jitsu at Blacksmith a year and a half ago. Our experience has been nothing but wonderful straight from the start! When I first reached out about the free trial, Lisa replied right away and was so friendly and welcoming- I knew this was the place for us. After the trial week, the boys immediately fell in love and were counting down the days until the next class! My oldest has always struggled with focus and staying on task, and I have never seen him so focused and engaged as when he’s in professor Jimmy’s class! It’s such a cool thing to witness. Fast forward to about a year later, and my husband and I decided to join as well. Never in my life did I ever think I’d be doing jiu jitsu, but it’s so much fun! The Womens class is my favorite! Professor Jimmy and Lisa, their boys Deacon and Dawson and also Professor Eman, provide such a welcoming and fun atmosphere, it’s hard not to want to be a part of it! Our family LOVES Blacksmith so much!! I had always been curious about jiu jitsu (mostly because Blacksmith is right beside where I train at WorkoutAnytime); but let's face it, new things can be pretty intimidating for "a total beginner"! Thank God I got to know Lisa through the gym and church - she is so sweet and encouraging. I jumped at the opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and try something completely new. Since then, everyone I've met "on the mats" has been very welcoming and accepting. It's been such a fun and empowering journey thus far, and I look forward to growing and building more skills and confidence within this sport. Really, it's the people and the community that make the difference! "Iron sharpens iron" (Proverbs 27:17). I truly encourage anyone to check this place out. You won't regret it!!

I'd give 1000 stars if I could. & 10000 more after. As an avid world-traveler and follower of the MMA realm since its inception, & having "practiced" BJJ myself (off/on) for nearly 14 years, I have trained and/or at least MET some of the absolute WORLD's FINEST in the BJJ/MMA realm... guys like Kendall Grove, Enson Inoue, Jocko, Dean Lister, J. Danaher, etc, etc. ...& Jimmy & Lisa Smith, & their entire BlackSmith Jiu-Jitsu FAMILY stand toe-to-toe with the absolute BEST of them. BlackSmith lets it be KNOWN the moment you walk through the door: THIS PLACE IS A SANCUTARY. ALL are welcome here... provided you check your ego/problems at the door. I have practiced at BlackSmith for nearly 5 years now & I have never seen so much as a significant nosebleed or major injury of ANY sort. Everyone in the gym is very mindful of one another. There is a flavor for EVERYONE at BlackSmith. While beginners/white belts generally dominate the evening classes (commonplace), there are PLENTY of well-seasoned, different styles, different body types, & even different philosophies of approaching the rapidly dynamic human chess match that is submission grappling and jiu-jitsu at BlackSmith. There are plenty of gi & no-Gi practioners; with dedicated classes for each style. There is even a bit of dedicated MMA practioners fairly regularly. I would not be surprised to see this grow into more developed/recurring scheduled class(es) in the near future. They are ALWAYS expamnding/growing. Last but not least, if you're old/broken, aging dog years like I am, or have broken quite literally EVERY major joint in your body & your BJJ disciplinary scheduling is about as reliable as a goldfish... WE HAVE A PLACE FOR YOU TOO... it's in the back, with the rest of the old guys. Try not to ask anything dumb like climbing tree trunks in middle of class... SO... whether you're into disrespecting your elders regularly, wearing funny pajama's & choking people with them, spandex (& I mean ALOT of SPANDEX; it's like a Rubbermaid factory in here sometimes), PLEASE come down to BlackSmith Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for a TRULY world-class jiu-jitsu experience. Come as a stranger, leave as a family member... Ask for the old-guy with the bone in his nose & I'll pop right out the woodwork... SOMETIMES. Sincerely, Jimmy/Lisa, you have put together a truly wonderful WONDERFUL sanctuary dedicated to ALL OF THE RIGHT THINGS in Jiu-Jitsu with NONE of the drama. I love you. I love what YOU have built. This place is excellent! We brought our nephew in for an open mat while he was visiting us and he was welcomed by the team that runs the gym with open arms. Everyone in attendance (staff and patrons) was friendly and supportive, despite his obvious young(er) age. I am in Destin with the family, for vacation. I reached out to Blacksmith Jiu-Jitsu to see if I could drop in for a class and to get some rolls in. Lisa replied quickly and was as friendly as could be. When I dropped in for the class tonight they were incredibly welcoming and I had a fantastic time. All of the students I met were friendly and very skilled. Professor Jimmy gave some great details on setting up and finishing the triangle. I have never done any sort of martial arts before, but we signed the whole family up, and we love it here! Personally, I hate working out but this community that trains here, make it so easy to want to come back, without loosing the competitive edge. Jimmy and Lisa have become not just friends, but family also and really create an environment where you feel celebrated. I can’t say enough about this school! Them and the professors (especially Eman), as well as their sons who also trains here, offer a wealth of knowledge and professionalism, and encouragement, for all levels of training. All of those reason along with no pressure of having a monthly contract, being able to experience the first week for free, and many hours a weeks available to train, and creating a very kid/family friendly environment, makes this school pull away from all other competing gyms and training schools. I’m grateful to have a workout place that I don’t mind going to, with the family, and actually enjoy it. I never thought I would say that! I could go on and on, but I’m sure y’all get the gist.

Only a few schools can provide such a family friendly environment. Even fewer schools can provide a high level of jiu jitsu, but being able to provide both is an incredible blessing to any serious practitioner. The amount of experience and skill that blacksmith jiujitsu provides at such a reasonable membership price is unmatched in the surrounding area and for many states nearby. I cannot say enough good things about this gym. Jimmy and Lisa have created something truly amazing here. I am so blessed to have called this my home gym for the last 2 years and am only leaving because of orders with being in the military. If you're in the Niceville area, you absolutely have to visit Blacksmith! The second you walk in, you can see that it is a very neat and clean gym. You can see the attention to detail put into the aesthetics of the facility. It always smells clean, the bathroom is pristine, and there is always cleaning products readily available. Aside from the looks of the gym, the mix of talent is impressive...very technical practitioners.... even the young teens are savages. The Blacksmith family is lead by an awesome black belt couple, Jimmy and Lisa. They promote an inviting environment but still offer hard training. Lisa is probably one of the nicest people you'll meet and Jimmy is extremely personable and laid back. If you're looking for a new jiu-jitsu family in the Niceville area, look no further...🤙🏽

Great gym and great people! While visiting the area on a work trip my wife and I decided to check out Blacksmith due to their stellar reviews online and the reviews were all true. Not only were Jimmy and Lisa incredibly hospitable but the whole gym has been very welcoming. The culture of the gym pushes you to be better while still being very encouraging and friendly. My wife loved the Lioness class and really enjoyed learning from several high level female practitioners. Even though we were only visiting for two weeks, Jimmy, as well as several other higher belts, treated me like one their own and really helped me improve my game while I was there. Grateful to have found this place and hope to visit again soon!

Coming to Blacksmith was my first time ever trying out jiujitsu. As a woman, despite my husband being very into the sport for years, I hadn’t yet felt comfortable enough to try it out for myself. Lots of different belts in there too. There will always be someone you can roll with no matter what belt you are. Jimmy is extremely knowledgeable too, great people all around. Cleanliness 10/10 Technique 10/10 People 10/10 I was in the area for a week and dropped into this gym. The environment was very friendly, clean, and technical. I was very impressed by how everyone seemed like one big family, while maintaining high level technique demonstration during class. This is no watered down jiujitsu. They have a 1 hr technique session followed by 1 hr of rolling and I did not have one bad roll. Everyone was controlled and no one was trying to rip a submission on me. They have a huge variety of upper belt and lower belt so people of all skill level can benefit. They have a ton of students that they also have dedicated kids classes as well as female only classes. Recommend bringing a lot of water because there isn’t a water fountain. Thank you for allowing me to stop by.

If there were 10 stars, I’d give them 11. I have trained at several BJJ gyms across the country, but nothing comes close to Blacksmith. You’re treated like family the instant you walk through the door. Lisa and Professor Jimmy have created a family-friendly environment, and they welcome their doors to everyone. You always leave Blacksmith learning something new. Every lesson builds upon your BJJ knowledge, and at Blacksmith you make friends along the way. The Lioness program is a great way for women to start BJJ if they might be feeling a bit timid. The all-female program is truly inspiring, and it’s an incredible group of women who I am honored to call my friends. You can look far and wide, but you won’t find another gym as special as Blacksmith.

Met Lisa & her husband tonight for the first time - the duo who run Blacksmith. I’m an out of towner and always a little apprehensive about schools I don’t know. Have had a mix of experiences. I texted the number shown and Lisa responded almost immediately - and with a truly welcoming vibe. (Great sign!) Showed up for the women’s Friday night class and stayed for the coed class after. Lisa instructed the women’s class and it was truly fabulous - high level instruction, alongside plenty of laughs and a general sense of family among the students & teachers. I don’t know what other people look for in a studio - but this is exactly what I look for and where people are injured far less. There was a great mix of all levels and intensities to work with. I trained with a GIANT of a man for the second class (I’m sure at first he was like “ugh” 😂) but we ended up having a super great session together - I learned a lot - he was super friendly and worked really well with me. Even gave me some tips on managing larger dudes when I train. And pointed out his son in the group. (So amazing they train together!) I never caught Lisa’s husband’s name - he taught the second class. Big. Beefy. Giant. Man. Somehow the most flexi giant man I’ve ever seen 😂. And also a fantastic instructor. Both classes had many students - but the location was plenty large enough to accommodate it safely. Great choice of rolling partners too. It’s very easy to see ownership takes care of their community. Highly recommend this studio in particular. As my home studio says “TRAIN HARD. BE KIND.” Glad I found a 🏡 away from 🏡 !

From the first moment to reaching out to my final training day as an out of towner, I was made to feel at home. Professor Smith runs a flawless class. You won’t waste time doing repetitive warmups. Instead, he shows a move the whole class drills. In short, you get more training time. Then his passion comes thru as he teaches. Like all good Professors, he shows the move, offers many scenarios, along with the solutions, and even offers a Q&A session for the lingering questions from the students. It was also nice to see many higher belts on the mats, especially the black belts who would roam and offer pointers. One of my highlights was rolling with Professor Smith. He sliced thru me like butter, but didn’t smash me. I could tell he was letting me work. I couldn’t even get my chest to his chest because of his framing and mobility. It was awesome! As far as the other students go, they were all nice and super helpful. Not once did I feel like ego was an issue. For instance, I rolled with 3 upper belts (2 brown and a purple) and all of them were genuinely helpful and respectful. And I know for sure the 2 brown belts could have whipped up on me, but again, they had nothing to prove because their skill spoke for them. This was a great family atmosphere all around with really clean facilities. The kids class, which occurred before the adult class, was well attended and those kids looked really sharp on the mats. Last but not least is Lisa, the owner. She is so nice, professional, welcoming, responsive, and intuitive. She’s a real treasure to meet. And if you are interested in joining or visiting, she will most likely be the one you get to speak with. Niceville is a better place with Blacksmith Jiu Jitsu. Try them out and you’ll be greatly surprised at the community you will find.

I honestly don't know where to begin. I'm originally from south Florida and I came up to the panhandle to serve in the Air Force. I looked all around for a gym to join to train at, and when I found Blacksmith everything just clicked. I have nothing but positive things to say about this gym. From the atmosphere, to the people, to the positive energy, you not only have an amazing environment training here; but you have amazing instruction and a family feeling here as well. This gym consistently does great in competitions in the area, and this gym also has a number of established black belts which comes in handy with the diverse game of BJJ. The mat space is very spacious and clean, and you are pretty much guaranteed to have great rolls in this gym due to the amount of training partners you get to work with. I have been doing Jiu-Jitsu for 5 years and have been to a number of gyms all over Florida; this is by far one of, if not the best gym I have ever attended. Professor Jimmy and Lisa have an amazing establishment here, I am honored to call this gym a second home. To further note; Jimmy and Lisa are not only amazing instructors, they are amazing people. They look out for you, they care, they ask how you're doing; this to me is what it's all about. I'm going to be moving back down to south Florida for family, but I am really going to miss this gym..please, if you're in the panhandle area, check them out, I promise you, you will not regret it.

Fantastic training! If you travel with a gi and a rashie always hoping to find a good place with good energy and solid rolls this is the place! One of the most welcoming gyms I’ve ever been. It’s a family owned place and often the whole family is on the mats in the mix. I rolled with all levels and every one of them was great, often I’ve visited gyms where some of the beginners to BJJ roll like they are fighting for their lives….not here. I credit that to how Jimmy (owner/head instructor) has brought them up and how he leads his experienced members to treat new up and comers. Young and old, man or woman if you are visiting or live in the area this is a gym you definitely need to check out you’ll understand once you walk in.

I’ve trained at many places, all are great. However, this place stands out above the rest. Everyone there is willing to teach and willing to roll. There is absolutely no groups or cliques within this gym which makes the atmosphere refreshing and inviting. It's a gym that very clearly values spreading knowledge and improving everyone's jiu jitsu over anything. It's has one of the cheapest membership fees I've ever seen. Every one of the upper belts is eager to teach and mentor . On top of that, there is a sense of community and family that you wont find in any other gym!

Our family joined Blacksmith for a few months while we were temporarily located in Niceville. They were incredibly welcoming to newcomers and made our family feel comfortable in what would have normally been an intimidating experience. I took the women’s classes and our kids joined in on the kids classes. I would highly recommend them! They have a high level of skill and professionalism and are patient with newbies! They are very passionate about teaching Jiu Jitsu. We just went back today for a drop in class, 6 months after moving away, and it felt like home. I travel a lot for business and enjoy training at various BJJ schools throughout the U.S. as a drop in student. I was promptly met at the door and immediately felt welcomed. Instruction was world class, Coach Jimmy broke all of the techniques down and also taught how to flow from one technique to another versus only a single technique. If I lived in the area this is where I would train. They run a great family oriented school and are one of the most professional schools I have met during my travels. Keep it playful, friendly, and fun; this is what separates this place from others. I go to BlackSmith Jiu-jitsu because the people are friendly. I like BlackSmith Jiu-jitsu because the instruction is thorough.The instructor is patient. There is an atmosphere of fun and playfulness, and not of extreme competitiveness. It’s a family run business, with the lead Professor having 20+ years of experience. They offer women only classes and children classes so every part of your family can get involved. The family that runs it (Jimmy and Lisa) are some of the most nicest, generous, and knowledgeable people in this sport. They’re professional, the environment is always clean, and most importantly they are very open to people who have never set foot in a Jiu Jitsu. The Lioness woman’s class is AMAZING! I’ve been going for 7 weeks and can’t get enough! My kids, ages 6 & 8, train twice a week and they have learned so much.
