Very clean environment, shane the instructor is a very cool guy. He’s very good at finding what you’re doing wrong and fixing it. Great atmosphere!
I trained here for five weeks while I was away from home. I can’t say enough positive things about the fun atmosphere and great people. I was accepted immediately and loved the training. I highly recommend stopping in and checking it out for yourself. I will definitely be back for more training in the future.
Would definitely recommend. Had a great time and learned a lot.
Offers The best experience in town , super paciente with beginners , I feel confident defending my self in difficult situations
I had the pleasure of training at Black Tie Martial Arts with Shane Weinischke this weekend. The gym was clean, the atmosphere was great, and I got plenty of great rolls there. I felt welcomed into the gym and it honestly felt like I was at my home gym. The quality of the rolls were great, as I could tell there was a lot of experienced grapplers in the gym eager to train hard and better themselves. I never felt treated as just a guest, but more like I was treated as a life long member. This is a great gym for those that are looking to train hard and intentional. If I lived in Tallahassee there would be no doubt I would train here. Shane Weinischke is a class act and his students were a mirror image of his character.
Since starting my Jiu-Jitsu journey at Black Tie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in October 2023, I’ve found a passion that far surpasses traditional gym workouts. Training under Coach Shane has been a game-changer; his unique blend of technique, practical application, and fun challenges keeps every session exciting. Despite initial reservations about training alongside younger practitioners, this diverse environment has proven ideal for both learning and applying techniques in a real-world context. It’s more than just physical fitness; it’s about agility, flexibility, and functional strength. This holistic approach has been invaluable, especially as someone who spends most days desk-bound and is keen on staying active and healthy at 43. The supportive community and the practical skills I’ve gained, even proving useful in a real-life self-defense situation, affirm that I’ve found more than just a workout routine—I’ve discovered a lifestyle that keeps me physically and mentally sharp. Thank you, Black Tie BJJ, for this transformative experience.
Shane facilitates a warm, welcoming, and quality environment. Look no further if you are looking for a great place to grapple.
Dropped in while traveling for work and nothing but positive things to say. Prior to my drop in, the email exchange with Coach Shane was really helpful. He definitely understands the "customer service" side of the business. The training was fast paced, interesting, and fun. Great way to move around a bit after a day of traveling. Hope to get back some day. If you are looking for a school, you should 100% check it out.
Dropped in to Weinischke while traveling through Tallahassee. Shane and team were very welcoming! Great environment and skilled instruction! Highly recommend and I will be back when I'm in town!
I was visiting from out of town and found Weinischke Martial Arts with some Google searches. I called to make sure a walk in was fine and dropped in later that day. When I walked in, I was instantly welcomed by Shane at the door and he politely showed me where I could change. I have visited dozens of BJJ places around the world as I have been training for more than 10 years and notice the little things that give me clues about the culture. Not only did Shane introduce me to the rest of the class, but it was also followed up by all of his students welcoming me by coming to shake my hand/fist bump. This always means a lot when visiting. The rolls were with all different ages and training levels. Most importantly, the rolls were friendly, competitive and there was no ego from anyone. This is the place I will choose to go every time I am in town. Thank you for the hospitality.
I move to Tallahassee last May and was looking for a place for myself and 12 y/o son to train BJJ. I have been training for nine years and because of work, have moved around alot. I have been lucky enough to have trained at 3 great places in AZ, NY, and VA and have found a 4th great gym at Weinischke Martial Arts. Professor Shane is am excellent coach who cares about his students and their individual progress while creating an excellent team enviromment. If you are looking to train BJJ in Tallahassee, FL, I highly recommend this gym.
A great Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (and kickboxing) gym for all ages. I look forward to every class, as well as the various seminars with special guests. Multiple members of my family have trained at WMA and we all love it
Outstanding group classes and personal training!
Shane is a professional, to say the least. Knowledge is power and putting that knowledge to action on the mat is exactly what Shane coaches you to do. I'm 5'2'', former cheerleader, current weightlifter. Jiu-jitsu is for everyone. Whether you're a powerlifter, male or female, a kid, not an athlete at all... this is the place to go if you're ready to learn and grow.
Dropped in for an open mat (one of the few gyms in the area that have them) and had a great time. The students were respectful and the owner was gracious and knowledgeable. I would recommend visiting if your coming to town. Thank you for the good rolls!
My 13 year olds have been attending here almost 2 years and love it. They have more confidence and have found a real community in the teen class. Shane has a more laid back approach which is different from some other schools and it has been a great fit for our family. He loves teaching them and they have learned so much! My kids are there 5-6 times a week and classes are now an integral part of our family schedule.
If you’re in Tallahassee, you have to be here. Shane is a true martial artist and an amazing human being. He cares genuinely about his students do yourself a favor and come try a class you will not regret it!
Shane is an outstanding and caring coach. He and his crew are experts in the field with a demonstrated record of professionalism. My boys (11 and 9) love his classes and he has instilled a new level of confidence in them both. Sign up! You won’t regret it!
Awesome school. Been going for over a month and Shane is a fantastic teacher. Will definitely be making this spot a long term one!
Dropped in while travelling in the area. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. Shane is a great coach with high level technique and instruction. Would recommend this gym to anyone looking for training in Tallahassee.
Every time I visit Tallahassee I make sure to stop in and train with Shane and his team. They are always welcoming and great to train with.
Shane is a legend! The place has a great atmosphere and everybody there is super friendly. I definitely recommend this gym over any others for jiu jitsu in Tallahassee!
I began training jiu jitsu after I moved to Texas, but every time I come back to Tallahassee to visit family, I try to stop in and train with Shane. Everyone that I have met from his gym has been extremely friendly and they definitely know what they are doing when it comes to jiu jitsu. If you live in the area and are looking for a place to train, this would be my recommendation.
Visiting from out of town and needed a place to train. Welcoming environment, clean gym, down to earth attitude, and quality instruction. A great choice for newcomers and advanced practitioners alike.
If you live in Tallahassee and are looking for a place to train, Weinischke Martial Arts is the place to be. The quality of training is phenomenal and the people who train here are always looking to help improve each other. The coach Shane is always thinking about how to improve his students both in jiu jitsu and in life. Any parents looking to get their kid into a hobby, the kids class is unparalleled. For the quality of training and unlimited classes, this is one of the most affordable schools to learn jiu jitsu. So what are you waiting for? See you on the mats!
I’ve been training at WTMA with my brother for a little over a year. The coach is patient and the classes are accessible to new and advanced people. Everyone is kind and willing to help you, and the coach is nice and open. You’ll learn work ethic, confidence, and humility, which helps you off the mats, too. Great school, would recommend to anyone trying to get fit or develop skills!
Been going here for a year with my 8yo, very professional and friendly, and importantly - jiu jitsu is much more usable in the real world than many of the other kid martial arts available
Been training at WMA with my husband for about 8 months now and it’s become such a huge part our lives. Coach Shane really cares about his students and he’s passionate about what he does. He’s been a great professor and has also become a really great friend too. So grateful for Shane and our other amazing coaches and teammates! Our gym is a family, and folks training here don’t care about ranks or belts. We work together as a team. Everyone has been so gracious and willing to share their knowledge. No bad eggs here, all good vibes! Kids program is top notch! Shane really loves his kids and they work so hard to make him proud. Can’t imagine our lives without jiu jitsu and can’t imagine training anywhere else!
I’ve known Shane for over a decade. It’s been Awesome to see him turn his lifetime of experience training martial arts into a safe, fun, and challenging environment for others to better themselves through martial arts. Shane’s instruction has a high level of detail. He also does a great job creating a a cohesive, welcoming, safe environment for beginners as well as a challenging environment for experienced martial artists. Highly recommended
I've known Shane since 2008. He has always shown great pride in his martial arts. From teaching, to just being a great guy, I have always been impressed by him. All his students are awesome. They're all super friendly and respectful. I highly recommend anyone in his area to stop by and take a class. You will not be disappointed. He has a great kids and teen programs as well.
Coach Shane is awesome ! He’s full of experience and ensure safe training. Positive vibes and makes you feel right at home. I remember my first class was such a blast I ended up going twice a day !
For the moms and dads out there considering it for this kids - Shane is the right coach and has the right environment. He’s good with kids, he pushes them, but isn’t a crazy person. He takes safety seriously. Respect is at the core of the lessons. As a parent when your kids starts grappling it’s about as exciting as sports get. I’m telling you, you’re so fired up after your kid applies a technique. If you’re interested - go for it! It’s a welcoming, nice and supportive atmosphere.
Training at this gym is my favorite part of the week! It's clean, it's safe, and the people are all friendly. Coach Shane cares about every one of his students and devotes time for everyone on the mats. Since starting at this gym, I have fallen in love with BJJ and I wouldn't train anywhere else! Highly recommend it!
Awesome place to train and meet new people. A lot of cool people and coaches that are always willing to help you.
A place where you are treated like family and Coach Shane provides powerful effective insight at every single level of BJJ.
The attention to detail and the focus on each student is done very well. Shane is great at making anyone and everyone feel welcomed.
This gym is a great environment with even more great people and instructors. I’ve always felt more then comfortable when attending!
The best jiu jitsu place in Tallahassee. :) The environment is welcoming and the people are friendly. Shane is an awesome and patient teacher.
Weinischke Martial Arts is AWESOME! I was looking for something outside of my comfort zone that my 2 boys and I could do together. Jiu Jitsu was and has been a great fit. Coach Shane is a tremendous teacher. He has great respect and knowledge of the sport. He has an uncanny ability to make you comfortable and confident in the dojo. I am excited to watch my sons and myself as we grow our father son relationship, as they continue to grow as young men and as we hone a life skill. Thanks Coach Shane, you are a positive influence in our lives!
Shane is so knowledgeable and has a passion to see others succeed.
The best jiu jitsu gym in town. Shane cares deeply about the school and his students! Jacob has been training with him since he was 6 and has grown tremendously in strength, skill, and confidence! Now Chloe is training and has been able to compete a couple of times. Super excited about the new location! If you’ve ever thought about martial arts for your children or yourself come and check is out! You won’t regret it!
This place will toughen you up. I’ve always had to stay on top of waxing my chin hair, but since I’ve starting training here, I’ve started having to wax chest hair as well. Great value!
I am highly critical when it comes to martial arts training. I searched quite awhile before landing at WMA. Shane is nothing short of a fantastic coach. He is a master of his craft. In the 6 months I have been with his team, I have lost almost 15lbs, gained useful martial arts skills and a new found confidence in my physical abilities. He will push you to be better and I see the results already. Come train with us!
Shane is an awesome coach. The atmosphere that his gym provides is great for beginners and experienced people alike. Wouldn’t train anywhere else
I don't do a lot of reviews but Shane is awesome. My two young sons and I are looking into jiu jitsu and he let us come in while he was teaching a class and was teaching my boys the basics, without even joining yet, while running his business. I will definitely be training with coach Shane!
im completely new to martial arts and i felt very welcomed and comfortable immediately
Great place to train. Everyone here is very welcoming and supportive, and it all starts with Shane. He’s a great coach, mentor, and friend. I highly recommend checking out Weinischke martial arts.
Great place to train, friendly members and clean facility. As soon as you step in, be ready to train. This is not your typical cardio/MMA gym, you will be expected to work and much as everyone else. Shane is not your typical business owner, he doesn't see his students as a way to profit. He will invest his time in you and help you become a better Martial Artist and person as long as you're willing to work. Try it out for a month and see for yourself.
Have been training with Shane for 6+ years. Has helped me in many areas of life. Very thankful for my Jiu Jitsu family.
Weinischke Martial Arts is an excellent place to train. Shane is a very patient instructor who offers real-life situational training, enforces attentiveness (which therefore helps with listening skills), and provides a top-notch workout. We wouldn’t take Jiu Jitsu anywhere else!
Good school with emphasis on individual training. I've wrestled in high school and I'm college and modt schools get caught up in certain individuals, thus slowing the progress of others. One on one instruction that shows application in real tournament competition. After only training for 4 months, I was able to medal at an out of town competition in Jacksonville.
Awesome environment for everyone! Jiu Jitsu has changed my life!
Great place to train for self defense and fitness. You will learn a lot about yourself. Start training today. A friendly and safe place to learn. 😁
Great place for kids, Shane works hard to develop kids in the right way. Highly recommend this gym to anyone seeking to give kids a great sport to grow with.
Great place to learn and practice jiu jitsu. Practical curriculum, all the grappling and mma taught is fight tested in cages and what not. The atmosphere is nice too everyone is relaxed and there to learn Jiu Jitsu nobodies flexing on anybody
Been training with Shane for a little over a year now, and I’ve learned a ton of awesome techniques and I’ve also seen a lot of success competed. Awesome school.
Very welcoming environment with dedicated coaches and training partners.
Great new place , with the same great people, quality.
I used to train bjj back to my hometown, I had trained in many different schools, but I have never found such friendly place as the WTMA. People are very respectful and qualified. Since I started to train there I have been getting so many benefits, I have been making new friends, learning self defense, getting a better cardio-respiratory stamina, etc. The instructor Shane is very qualified and patient, I want keep training there and recomend to everyone! Hey guys! Today we are going to do "Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu"!! King Kai from DBZ.
Started this gym in November and I gotta say this is the best gym in tallahassee period. Shane is one of the best teachers you'll find that cares about you and your progression not only in bjj but in life. It's a great environment and in joining this gym you also join a big family who will welcome you with open arms don't get nervous everyone at this gym are great people!
Shane’s classes are awesome. World Truimph has helped me stay in shape, shed lbs, become stronger mentally and physically, enhance my flexibility and discipline while learning how to defend myself. This place is the reason why I care more about my physical abilities than my physical appearance. Not ganna lie at first I was nervous in these classes but Shane made me feel teachable and welcomed. If you stay humble, determined, dedicated, and mindful then Shane WILL upgrade you.
If your looking for an old school Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and grappling academy in Tallahassee, this is the place. Some of the best training I have ever gotten didn't require locker rooms, AC or a schedule filled with irrelevant classes to make me feel like I was getting the most for my dollar , It was just with some mats and good training partners. That's what you get at WTMA , Good team mates, great coaches and some mats.
I enrolled my son in the kids class several months ago. I waited to post so I could get an honest assessment and provide an honest review. First, for me is that Shane (instructor/owner) cares about his people (notice I said people, not clients); he cares that they learn; you can tell he's not just out to get your money. Second, ego's aren't flying in this place. I've trained elsewhere, where it's a constant tension of ego's. Third, you aren't going to get a better deal for your money. Fourth, the kids program isn't a daycare; they really teach your kids. It is a very friendly environment; but, don't mistake this for weakness; the skill-set at this school is topnotch.
I started at WTMA not long ago, but I must say it has been an extremely easy transition into the sport. Everyone is extremely welcoming, especially Shane. I'm sad that I won't around longer to practice here.
I started bringing my high school freshman son over because one of his best friends comes here! He loves it and was welcomed and never made to feel like the new kid! All the people there are very welcoming and help each other learn. So now my older son, his girlfriend and other college classmates all go! They are learning so much. I wholeheartedly recommend World Triumph!
Clean facility and positive environment. No matter your age, skill, or fitness level, Shane shows the same compassion and attention to detail to competitors and hobbyists alike. Shane often cares more about his students than his own well being and has done a great job creating a welcoming evironment that feels like a second home. Great place for both kids and adults wanting to learn self defense or just learn the art and strategy of jiujitsu.
Iv been doing jiu jitsu for 2 years now. Shane (head instructor) is honestly one of the coolest people I ever met. This school has a great vibe awesome technique and cool students. There is a wide verity is age groups in this school which is good to have to avoid injury and accidents. Iv been training here for about year now I’m somewhat new to Tallahassee and Shane and his students have been nothing but good to me.
Out of all the gyms I have trained at (there have been a lot) this will be the one I remember 40 years from now. The instructors, the training partners, the people in general are the epitome of what martial arts stands for: Respect. Don't come here with an ego or you will be humbled, come here with the willingness to learn and improve your game, because that is exactly what will happen. Legendary Black belts roll through here on a constant basis, you've got EBI contender Marcelo Cohen, BJJ legend Dustin Denes, top BJJ competitor Adriano Lucio. You're going to work hard, it's inevitable, but what you get out of the work and instruction will evolve your game. Highly recommend this place to all practitioners
This is bar far one the very best teams in Northern Florida. When you come here your welcomed with open arms and are treated like family. So if your in Tallahassee you have to stop by and train there. You will experience some of the best Jiu Jitsu Tallahassee has to offer, but more importantly some of the best people as well. Shane is a truly an amazing human being who does a lot for others. And under the guidance of his Professor Marcelo Cohen he has changed lives through Jiu Jitsu. He is dedicated to help others become the best they possible can be on and off the mat. He has helped me personally reach goals in Jiu Jitsu but also in my professional life in Law Enforcement. You can find a Jiu Jitsu academy anywhere in the world, but a great instructor who cares about you and invests his time as well as his energy to help others better is rare. I could go on about how great WTMA is but you just have to go and experience it for yourself. I know you will not be upset you did.
A great Jiu-Jitsu oriented gym. The training is hard and the instruction is great! It's a place for everyone. They have kids classes and men as well as women of all ages and come to train. They offer gi and no gi classes.
great work outs, family friendly, and clean environment. Highly recommend you give it a try if you are looking for a real gym experience.
WTMA is a great gym. As soon as you walk in, you are made to feel welcome. Everyone who trains there is friendly, knowledgeable and happy to help you learn. All the coaches are awesome and experienced. There is even an awesome yoga class once a week, which is one hell of a work out! Their prices are more than fair, and far cheaper than any other MMA place in town, but that certainly doesn't mean the training is lacking in any way! Just means they happen to be nice guys! The facilities are really good - lots of space and equipment, and a big mat space to roll BJJ on. A bunch of heavy bags to beat on, and a good sized boxing/mma ring for sparring. This place is not just a gym, it is a community where you will get on with everyone there, learn some mad skills, and get in great shape. I live in Australia, but I know next time I will be in town, i will be able to walk straight back into the gym, and hit the mats again! Come on down and try it out. Don't be scared homie.
One of only real places in Tallahassee that can change a young person’s life for the better. I have been blessed to witness kids that the streets were their future, drugs and gangs were a part of daily life and conflicts in school were the norm. Shane Weinischke never made these kids and adults for that matter, any promises, but showed them hope. And they flourished. He has expanded to offer self-defense classes to college girls, yoga and one North Florida’s most impressive Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and NAGA grappling. If you are looking for a great way to get into shape, challenge yourself and meet some amazing people, check out Tallahassee’s LONGEST running MMA (and more) Training Centers come into World Triumph Martial Arts. Show up in a Teenage Mutant Ninja T-Shirt and watch Shane smile. Kevin Wirfs
I've had the pleasure of not only training at this awesome gym, but also contributing (what I can) to its facility and I've done so with the utmost confidence that the gym will continue to grow, teach (and not just martial arts, but health and fitness), and reach out to the surrounding community. I can say with faith the gym has delivered on my expectations. Great teachers, great environment, great price. I'm not sure why'd you look anywhere else other than WTMA for fitness, MMA, and camaraderie.
This gym, the instructors and all of the people who train here are incredible. I started at this gym nearly two years ago. I had just gotten a divorce and was not taking care of myself. Then, I met a friend who had started training Mixed Martial Arts, and he convinced me to check out WTMA. I was not a fighter, just a guy looking to shed a few pounds. Because of this, I thought I would not get much personal training, however, that was far from the truth. All of the coaches are so willing to help and teach their specialized craft. They have boxing, jiu-jitsu, yoga, and much much more. Since that first day I started at WTMA have lost nearly forty pounds. Best of all, I am a much more confident person, which has helped me in all areas of my life. Whether you want to challenge yourself in the ring, or if you are looking to get that body you have always wanted, check out World Triumph Martial Arts.
Shane is an excellent jiu jitsu instructor with great knowledge in BJJ and MMA. Dont miss an opportunity to train with him and his team.
Good gym with a welcoming and more "natural" atmosphere to learn and train, or get in shape if that's what your looking for, unlike TFW. The hours their open kinda sucks too but the same can be said about any other gym like this in Tallahasse. My issue came when I went for an Amateur match for WTMA. (this was a Sanshou match) I was matched with a fellow gym member due to issues with previous opponents. My opponent was much more experienced than I and helped train me, but I had no problem with this and knew I was at a disadvantage going in but it was a fun experience nonetheless. Upon getting there is when I had an issue of how the even was held. Overall seeming a bit unorganized besides the fight card, I was never told that it was required to have someone in your corner or else you couldn't compete. I asked 2 of my coaches who both declined for the same reasons, which was they didn't want to corner for either of us since we went to the same gym. To sum up the rest, I get a guy in my corner who doesn't know anything about kickboxing, or what a cornerman does, while 1 of the coaches I asked is in my opponent's. Then later on after the 2nd round I think, I see both of the coaches I asked giving my opponent advice to go for body shots, while I get a "I don't know, jab some more".
