My son had learnt some of the martial art skills that enabled him to defend himself from bullies. Even though he was slim built the martial arts gave him confidence to defend himself. The teacher also teaches the kids basic discipline and values. Highly recommend.
My son has been a member at Black Belt Martial Arts Center for almost a year. In that time, I have seen his focus and confidence grow tremendously. I love that he is able to see his own progress every class through the belt ranking system that is in place. Definitely a self esteem booster. Mr. Reyes, the main instructor, is incredibly patient with the kids. He has a great balance of meeting the kids at their level while maintaining the integrity of the sport. He is able to manage a class full of children while also giving individual support. We are incredibly happy with this dojo and are looking forward to the next years of the black belt journey.

I have literally only been here two times and am already super impressed. My daughter is 4 and a half years old. We brought her and did the free class. She said she liked it and sign up was a breeze. The second class started absolutely horrible. My daughter was throwing a huge tantrum, refusing to wear the uniform, screaming and crying and just a huge menance. The teacher was persistent and consistent and amazingly got her to calm down. He was patient and she ended up listening and having a great time. For that alone I want to continue to bring her again and again. We are in our 3rd class now and she is in complete uniform, excited to be here, and listening well. I love this place. My 2nd child is only 6 months old but I'm already planning to send him here in future.
I highly recommend this place! It is clean, safe, friendly and very welcoming. Mr. Reyes is an amazing instructor who is committed to teaching all of his students how to build a strong mind and body. He engages with the kids and motivates them to succeed. He instructs them to always be disciplined, respectful and kind. He stresses the importance of trying to solve a conflict peacefully first but when there is a need to defend themselves physically from a bully or a kidnapper, he teaches the kids precisely what to do! He is very patient and his assistants (some of them started the program at the same age as my son and now are in their early twenties) are amazing as well! My son has been attending Black Belt Martial Arts since the age of 2.9 He started a program called Preschool Martial Arts, designed specifically for little kids where he learned to focus and developed tremendous physical agility. He has learned so much already! My husband and I have observed on multiple occasions our son’s ability to resolve a conflict and stand up for himself without any help from mommy or daddy. I think the best gift a parent can give their child is not fancy/expensive toys but the skills and tools necessary that one day might save their lives!
Our boys have been attending Black Belt Martial Arts for two years and absolutely love it! Mr. Reyes is fantastic and truly cares about each student's progress. He speaks with them at the end of each class and provides real life feedback on doing the right things. The environment is positive and encourages discipline and confidence. Mr. Reyes, Shyla, and the whole staff have been amazing. Both of my sons needed to learn a little discipline and how to pay attention and focus. Both of which they received from Mr. Reyes….my older son has been waiting to get old enough so he can join Mr. Reyes’ soccer team that he coaches as well. Fact of the matter is Mr. Reyes is good with children in general…yeah you can learn karate anywhere, but if that’s all you’re looking for, Mr. Reyes brings so much more to the table!

Best place to learn martial art for the whole family
The black belt martial arts is a hidden gem in Sugar Land - Missouri City area! This place is somewhere that my kids would find their fun as always! Every week the kids thinking of going here and always asking which day is their Karate day, and if they have a bad day at school, they recovers here. Also, Mr Reyes cares about all the kids he teaches, and he got a great rhythm on all the kids, liking gaining some skills or testing for the new belts. During the last two years, I think my kids have got more than what we expected, highly recommended!

My husband and I have been nothing but impressed with black belt martial art center. Mr. Reyes is wonderful with the children. He shows great discipline but in the kindest way. Neither of my boys are the easiest to work with but he has done so week after week and made it look easy. Could not recommend this center more!
We have been bringing our son to Black Belt Martial Arts for over a year, since he turned 3, and we couldn't be more pleased! As an early childhood educator, I immediately noticed that Mr. Reyes and Ms. Shyla are experts at teaching this age group. They always approach students with the right balance of patience and firmness. My son has improved significantly in his karate skills, as well as in his social skills since starting the class (paying attention, following instructions, showing respect to others). He has had challenges on the playground with bigger kids in which he has been able to put the skills he's learning into practice. I see him growing in confidence and ability, month by month. The teachers are excellent; they greet all the students by name, building relationships with each of the kids, and leading with encouragement. Every kid that walks through the door seems happy to be there and ready to learn! There are many class time options throughout the week, to fit any schedule. This is a positive, developmentally appropriate environment where your child can thrive. Highly recommended!!!!
Incredible instructors & staff! We enrolled our 1st child since she was 3 and all the rest of our kids when they reached to age 3 as well. They all absolutely love and enjoy the classes. It helps them to focus and reach their goals of value and life lessons while having fun. Our kids are ALWAYS eager to go to class! Since COVID happened, our kids are still continuing their classes and still having fun as ever. They offer small groups in person and also zoom classes, I love that we have the options of which ever we are more comfortable with. We will continue to have our kids in karate for years to come, I would highly recommend everyone to try it out here! You won’t be disappointed

Black Belt Martial Arts Center is hands down the best place to send your child if you’re looking for amazing instructors who honestly love their job. The amount of patience Ms. Shyla and Mr. Reyes have with their students is unbelievable. My daughter began classes with them when she was 3 and her separation anxiety from me was the worst. She went in kicking and screaming at the beginning, but Mr. Reyes calmly worked with her and now she cannot wait to return every week. She is now 4 years old and her confidence has grown in every aspect because of karate.

I started attending here in 2009 as a student. They taught me discipline, how to work well with others in a fun setting. I was able to grow here. The things they taught are the things I still use today. I started teaching there in 2017. Being able to work in a place like this and seeing the kids progress the way they do is amazing. If you are thinking about sending your child here I would 10/10 recommend.

The instructor and his team have provided excellent instructions to my two young sons, including my oldest who has some special needs. The instructor was patient, loving and firm in ways that helped him improve. He also communicated very well with us to ensure we were on the same page regarding the specific needs of my children. Through out the pandemic, they also greatly adapted and took precautions while still providing quality instructions. My family is moving to New York soon. We are truly saddened we can’t bring this school with us, so that our boys could continue their black belt journey with Mr. Reyes.

My son has been coming to this dojo for 3 years now. He loves it here. It is his home away from home. Mr. Reyes is firm with the kids in a way that is not intimidating and really helps to keep the children focused. They treat all of their students like family. Another thing that impressed me was the way they handled this pandemic and the quarantine that came with it. They are top notch and I recommend them to anyone looking to learn.
This is by far the BEST Martial Arts Center. We live in Houston and we don´t mind driving 1 hour to Missouri City to take our kids to class. Mr. Reyes understands the principles of working with kids. He teaches them values every single class and relates them to what they learned in martial arts so they can apply it in their lives. My kids have tried different gyms and none of them have the attention Mr. Reyes gives them. The others just don´t know how to keep preschoolers interested. I wish they could open more gyms with this same model so more kids can be impacted in a positive way.
Our 6-year-old has been a student at Black Belt Martial Arts for the past 1.5 years, and he loves coming to train here! It is a positive and family-oriented environment, and he has gained so much during his time here. Mr. Reyes and all of the instructors have not only provided him with martial arts training and responsible self-defense, but this has also strengthened his focus, confidence, and desire to set goals for each belt and to work to achieve them. Mr. Reyes also includes important life and character building lessons at the end of classes that we feel are important to learn at a young age and really shows how they care about the development of him beyond the physicality of martial arts. They quickly adapted to an online format when the dojo had to close due to COVID-19 to allow students to continue training at home without interruption and provided them with at home training equipment to help them get the most of their training under the circumstances. We were so grateful for this bit of normalcy during an uncertain time. With the dojo opening back up, they have taken the time to implement the necessary safety and health policies and practicing social distancing during training. We are so happy with our experience here and highly recommend it to others!

Fantastic experience! My daughter started just over a year ago and loves it. Mr. Reyes is a very experienced and talented teacher. Each class is different with a variety of skills practiced and refined. The students progress steadily through the belts and gain confidence and a lot of encouragement from the great staff.
